overall not good. cant recommend it.
Feels like an afternoon project of someone learning an engine.
Fantasyland is one of those indie projects that reaches for something grand and symbolic, yet ultimately delivers an experience far smaller and rougher than its ambitions suggest. Presented as a dream-driven action game inspired loosely by themes in *Dream of the Red Chamber*, it establishes itself with poetic language and philosophical hints about identity, reality, and illusion. From the opening moments, the game seems intent on creating an otherworldly atmosphere—one where each “dream” serves as a self-contained scenario with its own protagonist, its own mood, and its own internal conflict. On paper, this structure promises variety and depth. In practice, it becomes clear early on that Fantasyland’s ideas are much more developed than its execution. Gameplay is built around progressing through six dreamlike scenarios, each tied to a different hero. These characters vary in movement and attack speed, but their differences remain largely surface-level. A typical dream sequence consists of entering a small level, fighting off waves of enemies, and reaching a target that marks the completion of that chapter. Upon finishing one dream, the next hero unlocks and the loop repeats. The premise of confronting distorted versions of oneself and unraveling fragmented dream narratives has potential, yet the actual moment-to-moment play is straightforward and repetitive. Enemy encounters lack depth, levels feel flat and sparsely designed, and progression unfolds in a strictly linear fashion. Even as heroes change, the gameplay rarely evolves in a meaningful way. Visually and tonally, the game attempts to lean into darkness and surreal melancholy. Promotional text describes “realistic smoke, blood and explosion effects” and a “sense of darkness and depression,” suggesting an atmosphere meant to evoke emotional weight. However, the in-game presentation struggles to match those aspirations. The environments are basic, textures lack detail, and many visual elements resemble default assets rather than hand-crafted scenes meant to support the game’s thematic depth. Music and sound fare similarly: they aim for mood, but often feel disconnected from the action, creating an uneven emotional tone rather than a cohesive dreamworld. The pacing amplifies these issues. Despite its narrative framing, Fantasyland feels more like a sequence of short combat rooms than an exploration of surreal inner landscapes. Each dream ends just as it begins to hint at something deeper, and the next one starts with only minor variations. The potential symbolism—fighting versions of the self, stepping through fragments of dreams, awakening new identities—never grows beyond suggestion. Without richer mechanics or storytelling to strengthen these concepts, they become background flavor rather than driving forces in the experience. Outside the game itself, the reception and surrounding context further complicate its standing. With only a handful of user reviews on Steam and some community reports of revoked keys and questionable distribution practices, Fantasyland occupies a precarious place within the indie scene. These issues don’t directly reflect the game’s artistry or design, but they do cast a long shadow over the overall package and raise concerns about reliability and post-launch support. Combined with its limited content and minimal polish, the game struggles to justify itself to players looking for a substantial or dependable experience. Yet, despite its flaws, there is something earnest about Fantasyland. Its ambition is apparent even when the execution falters. The idea of shifting between dreamworlds, confronting metaphoric enemies, and navigating symbolic darkness has a spark of creativity behind it. For players who enjoy exploring obscure indie titles, especially those shaped by idiosyncratic vision rather than commercial refinement, Fantasyland may offer an intriguing if imperfect glimpse into a personal creative project. It is short, unpolished, and uneven, but not without a strange appeal for those who appreciate experimental designs. Ultimately, Fantasyland is a conceptually bold but practically limited action title. Its dream-based structure and philosophical framing suggest something grand, but the actual gameplay loop remains repetitive, simple, and constrained by its modest production. Approached with the right expectations—curiosity, patience, and tolerance for rough edges—it can offer an unusual, fleeting experience. Approached expecting depth, polish, or narrative richness, it will almost certainly disappoint. Rating: 3/10

Scammers revoking old game keys. I got this game 7 years ago.
So verliert man Vertrauen. After more than six years, this developer simply deleted my licenses – no warning, no explanation, nothing. I tried to contact him, but got no response. Anything in the forum related to the deletion of license keys gets removed as well. This is just unprofessional and shows very little respect for customers. That’s how you lose trust. I strongly advise against this developer. As for the game itself: it wasn’t worth the money back then, and after the price increase (even with sales) it’s still not worth it. I only stuck around this long just to be able to write this review :D
To everyone who got scammed I recommend doing following:
- report developer via flag button, see bottom right of the product page - add their games to to ignore, so you won't buy any of their slop on accident https://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Apillo ----- 10€ lol, you're insane... a skippable ad would be price too high for this slop edit: aaaaand I got my key revoked, what a coincidence! Day of purchase: 12th Jun of 2018 Day of product removal: 12th Nov 2025 Apparently my payment took 7 years of processing. Thankfully, nothing of value was lost.
O gráfico não é dos piores, mas o mapa é MINI, então se fosse pior seria triste. A movimentação do personagem é horrível. Sem sentido, sem grandes ameaças, mais do mesmo e do mesmo sempre. 01/10 ( ˘︹˘ )
