Sure, it is very dated for a lot of people now, and you have to disable Windows LIVE to get it running. However, once you do, you find a world that rewards you for exploring it. Not to mention you get the story FO4 definitely did not copy.. This was my in for the series, and I keep going back to it
A wonderful game from an era that no longer exists. An experience that, has truly stuck with me since my teen years. Personal nostalgia bias aside, I think this is one of the best games of it's time. This is a true Bethesda game so jank and infuriating bugs do exist. I will not let nostalgia cloud the technical issues we know Bethesda for, and this game is objectively buggy in many places. Even today on modern systems the ending sequence may cause your game to crash (Windows and Linux). But even with that I don't think it takes away from the overall game too much. This game took the walking steps from Elder scrolls Oblivion, and started a jog that would eventually end up where we are today. Where the genre is almost over saturated with fallout/elder scrolls type games. And that is because this foundational pillar from the early years is solid. I still believe the game gives a wonderful expression of having to survive in the wasteland ruins. While yes voice acting is rough for NPC's who aren't part of the main story. And things like no aiming retical is just odd. The execution still works, VAT's the slow-mo attack mode is fun to use, especially with the perk where you explode people. I also feel the story is worth playing through, and not just the main story but the side quests as well. This likely is nostalgia speaking but, something about mindlessly seeing who else might pop up in this messed up world. And what trouble or help they may bring is still such a "magical" feeling. It is hard to put into words but, I think it stem from the fact. We know the game is old and yet it captures so many elements perfectly. I believe the best comparison I can make is, this is like a good stop motion film. it looks "janky" and out of place and yet magic can be found within that uncanny grit, that only stop motion can give. It is why so many horror games intentionally use PS1 era graphics, because there is certain charm about seeing something so simple....capture perfectly the emotions it wants to convey. I truly feel fallout 3 is that game of its era. And much in the same way some people judge Black & white films or the use of stop motion. I can see some people not liking the game just for those points. And I don't think that is wrong, simply a matter of opinion and that is okay, but if you are someone that can appreciate older, slightly outdated systems, the game is truly an immersive wonder. I know I do have nostalgia bias, but having replayed this game and beating all the DLC's, I genuinely feel it is more than the nostalgia that kept me going. If you find it on a sale I say please get it, then maybe you can understand the magic. That kept a 16 year old me glued within the Capital wasteland, on a Fall season all those years ago. Peace be the Journey - Cool Runnings
J’ai beau avoir bien cherché dans les Terres Désolées, je n’ai malheureusement pas trouvé de ville de nudistes… :/ Plus sérieusement, c’est un gros classique. Certes, le jeu vieilli, mais il reste très agréable.
Hated by arrogant hypocritic hacks everywhere.
Excelent game
As of writing I have about 50+ hours, didn't know steam didn't track. Truly an amazing game and I didn't realize the roleplay aspect was crazy good. kind of strains my eyes, but overall everything was fine but a few minor crashes. Will be playing modded for sure.
W game
The first fully 3D Masterpiece of the series. Play it
