To be fair, I have given this a thumb up for nostalgias sake only. Lets be clear; this is a £20 purchase for a game that is over 25 years old (I think), with poor graphics and that is only a little arcade air game with probably zero future roadmap beyond bug fixes for a while. But, it is (as far as I can remember) a faithful replication of the game where I started my sim hobby. It has relatively few bugs, is very stable to play and even has integration with Track IR. Would I really recommend it? No (except if you really fancy it for nostalgias sake). There are other arcade combat flight games out there that are better and more modern and of course there is Falcon BMS or DCS for genuine modern study level combat sims. So why did I buy it and give it a thumb up? I hope it helps Microprose move towards Falcon 5, which will hopefully be the next era defining study level combat flight sim.
I loved playing TFX back in the day so hopping into F-22 was easy. The graphics are "nostalgic" - but gives you all the information you need and runs smoothly. The situational awareness has improved as you can use web-cam-based headtracking for locking around. To find your opponents you bring up the radar on the MFDs full-screen. To lock an opponent you click on him on the radar and then feed him to your wingman or hunt him yourself. My x56-stick worked perfectly - binding some more options (like the mfds) would have been nice. For me it hits the sweet spot between action-games like Ace Combat (everything goes boom) and hard core sims like DCS ( arguing with the ground crew over missed key-bindings). You know where you are, you know where you want to go and you know how to blow things up- what more could you want? Give it a go - flying is fun.
As someone who has tried to get into DCS and Falcon BMS and got promptly overwhelmed this has been a godsend. It has headtracking support and after a rocky launch they expanded the rather basic joystick support of the original release (though be warned that if you want to bind beyond the twenty or so functions in the options you'll need a keymapper but devices and axes are freely assignable). The part that I'm mixed about are the AWACS missions mostly because the 2D interface is a bit cumbersome and the time compression doesn't make things that much faster. But the flight and avionics are just complex enough to be immersive without being overwhelming, despite the rough edges (at its heart is still an old game) I've been having a blast playing it so far.
Yesss. Now TAW guys!!! Ahem micropose!!!

Absolute classic game . I've been waiting years for this !! I'm hoping there's plans to bring back F22 Total Air War because I enjoyed that edition even more ! The cockpit wide view ( F1 then K ) seems to give intermittent screens which can be off putting . Sometimes the screens freeze so it's hard to tell if it's live info or a freeze . I'm hoping that may be fixed but otherwise 100%
I fiddled with this for a day but no matter what it does NOT work with a Thrustmaster Joystick. It's a Flightsim for god's sake. What kind of flightsim can't use a BLOODY JOYSTICK FOR GODS SAKE ???????? Needless to say I got my refund and it's the last thing I`ll every buy from steam. Rubbish.
Fantastic blast from the past, i had this sim 25 years ago and have always wanted to own it again. Does anyone play on multiplayer?
A gift from the past!!! High def, very stable, excellent performance!
