Great game, highly recommend playing it with Ironman and perma death forces you to make hard choices and question your past self after receiving the consequences. Although perhaps not on insane difficulty because sometimes it drives you... insane you will recall the words ambush and trench. As for any advice, be careful where you save and may fortuna be on your side Legate!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Good story and presentation, but suffers from being a grind simulator with JRPG stats and constant item upgrades to double and pad the game time. If you're ok with grinding and navigating through turd to get to the good bits then there's fun to be had here. I'm too old for turd. It would be Much better if they released a 20 hours game without the turd rather than pretend it was 40 hours of pure molten s**** Or the very least, make the constant +1 leveling turd easily skippable with console cheats. Unlike Viking Expeditions which also suffered from horrifying looting and crafting, you can't cheat your way on of the grinding turn in this game, the devs locked the console real tight . And if you try to break it and cheat the grind they will troll you it with in game messages. It's funny how Expeditions Conquistador lower budget made it their back game, since it forced them to keep things basic. Just like Cdproject did Witcher 2 and then Witcher 3, which each had inferior time wasting non immersive looting systems compared to the first Witcher. All so they could claim they had a longer game then they really had. For the sweet USD per hour of gaming ratio. Or to keep the skinner box working. One last thing, the skill/talent system is pointlessly obtuse and lacks flexibility which falls perfectly inline with the padding mentality. If you're going to make a game after Xcom the least you can do is follow on its superior itemization and low grind mindset. If they ever released an edited version of Expeditions without all the nonsense grind. With pure focus on combat and story I'll give that game a glowing positive review.
I liked this game, it offers a great story, good writing (even contains latin), fully voice acted, choices matter leading to multiple endings, you command a roman legion, characters develop as you play, you can exploit battles for easy wins by spamming greek fire (which is just a molotov) or torches if you are poor and you get to sleep with Cleopatra. But, it does have it’s flaws. My main complain being the legion battles. They just resume around picking the highest green numbers and auto-resolve stuff. And by stuff I mean that it’s just a bunch of icons clashing with each other in an animation which you can skip, you have absolutely no control, just make sure you got enough soldiers, fill up the commander slots, and during battles pick stratagems which have the best numbers, that’s it. Fortunately, those battles play fast, but still, it is one of the most boring things in the game. BTW, speaking of boring, do yourself a favor and turn up the Combat Speed from Options. As for the tactical gameplay, well, I am divided on it, mainly because of balancing. As as stated fire is OP and pair that up with poison which blocks healing, you got yourself in a pickle. But access to both are more in your hands rather that the enemy’s, they either use fire or poison, but rarely both at the same time (btw, fire/burning and poison are DOTs which bypass shields, combo them up with bleed too and watch even bosses ascend to the roman gods in about 3 turns). The biggest challenge in the gameplay was to not get one character surrounded, because enemies are like wolves, they are hell bent focused one just a character. But not everything is easy, some battles posed a challenge, however it is a shame that most of such cases were made challenging because enemies keep on spawning in waves and eventually becomes overwhelming. So, it might not be the level of X-com when it comes to the tactical gameplay, but it sure makes it up with the story, choices do matter, art style is great, didn’t encountered major game bugs, has likable characters, and even teaches you a bit of latin, you even get a glossary in main menu going through common words used in the game and their definitions. What can I say, I rec it for any tactics enjoyer, and maybe even give the previous installment, Expeditions: Viking, a try, it ain’t as good as this but still it’s alrigh.
Good tactical layer, but strategic layer is vert shallow, thus boring. Once a province is pacified, the loop is basically: select resource point → send legion → wait/recover → repeat There is little trade-off beyond timing, no interesting logistics, and limited reason not to capture everything eventually. A second legion mostly increases throughput and click volume; it does not deepen the system. So it functions as campaign pacing friction between the good tactical battles, rather than as a strategy layer in its own right. Unfortunately I found no option to auto-capture everything or get rid of legion management to turn game back to it's roots.
I am a person of simple words. 1. Turn Based - check 2. Party Based RPG - check 3. Rome - check APPROVED
So I just finished the game on Insane difficulty first playthrough blind and thats the frame I'm going to write this review from. 1. Just confirmed, yep, definitely a masochist because playing this on insane blind was uhhhhh, kinda hard, yeah like really hard. Act 1 in particular on insane is probably 25 of the 55 hours I spent to beat the game. Combined with learning the systems of combat, most opening encounters (since you don't have levelled up characters) are pretty much rng fests if you make it through. Especially because there are certain missions where no one can go down (since you don't have the revive skill yet) and this is especially brutal with the insane damage early enemies deal. Some of the hardest fights of act 1 were, without spoilers, -Bailing us out of the evil ambush of doom and despair -The actual first tutorial batttle -The Uniform Raid where I am actually set on fire in real life -The Cave of horror and double boss fear. Speaking of the cave, thats a "pacification mission" another clunky mechanic of the game that forces you to send one of your A team members plus some B team people you hire to secure conquered areas sometimes. These missions go from being cakewalks to absolutely brutal depending on which one it is. And that cave double boss is no joke, dropping you on low grow with no cover and constant enemy reinforcements expecting you to wipe out two different bosses. Again, I want to emphasize I played on the hardest difficulty. I'm sure these encounters are more normal lower down, but sometimes it felt like I had to save scum horribly to survive those specific encounters. Once everyone's builds are up and running though, the rest of the game becomes quite easy. Most paths are strong, but some stronger then others (looking at you Reaper and Assassin Veles, or Overwatch/Interupt Crit Spam archer who carried my game heavily.) But I figure I should do a proper pros and cons list now with the little rant out of the way ay? Pros -Reasonably fun story and characters. Bestia grew to be my favorite by the end. If you like Xcom combat but want a solid enough story to go along with it this is a good game for it. -Tactical Combat is fun, although there are a few op and weak things that seem a bit strange. -Resource Management. It's strange I'd put this in the positive, but this game genuinely changed how I acted as my character. Originally I wanted to play generic hero good guy whatever be nice to everyone kind of RPG guy. But the problem was I wasn't getting rewards for being nice to people, and after act 1 I was really starting to struggle managing food or money to keep resupplying the legions. As such I started taking every greedy option, like destroying shrines, or raiding what was essentially a wishing well for 80 bucks because we were so poor as a legion. It was cool to watch my own attempt to be a good person get derailed by the need of resources for conquest, and I thought that was interesting. Cons -Overly Complex in quite a few manners. Legion Combat specifically, lots of numbers, none of which really matter when you just click a stratagem and pray. My usual strat was pick cards for siege, and only attack with bigger number, and that worked mostly fine. DONT forget to level those stratagems or you'll end up in act 3 like me with level 1 stratagems taking 1k plus losses on equal fights. -Clunky Map Controls. Seperating legion and individual movement was often really clunky and irritating, on top of passing time in outposts and managing all that stuff was unfun and boring. -Tedious Inventory management for lots of characters if you micro alot, but there is an automater but it won't always pick good gear. -Incredibly long turns. You can speed up combat by 2x, but even then when you are in big battles I genuinely start doing something else while waiting for the enemy to take their turns, and then taking a save when they are finally done so I don't have to watch all those animations again. It's actually horribly long. Like if you come from Xcom like I did you haven't seen the half of long Ai turns. And sometimes it's like 3 seperate groups of enemies who all pass turns to each other, it's super tedious. But if you can look past those clunky systems, there is a fun game to be had here, hence why I finished it! Also it goes on sale all the time for like 10 ish bucks, so it's worth that money.
