Probably the best music making program for VR. Pros: * Great, high-quality samples and soundfonts. * Custom soundfont and sample support for near-infinite possibilities. * There are some pretty handy quality-of-life options, like being able to disable double-sided ringers. * Multiplayer support * Very easy to learn and play! Cons: * The sound engine can sometimes get overwhelmed and mixing can be a little annoying. * There's no way to manually quantize a played note- you have to play the whole clip perfectly in one go with the auto-quantize feature. * Locomotion can be rather annoying, and there's no analog stick support. * Missing some more special features such as filters and effects. * There is only one visual theme.
How has this app not made national headlines?? This is nothing short of a REVOLUTION in how people perform and produce music. Absolutely incredible. So much value.
Just the fact that I can connect my hardware synths via usb to the pc and then build instruments in EXA, set the midi ports/channels and then play said hardware in VR is an absolute game changer!
Experienced on Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/pY6IWfzDJjE I did something I rarely do on Steam. I bought this at full retail price. I have no regrets. This is an absolutely wonderful experience in VR and reasonably priced. I have played other similar apps in VR in the past. Not being a musical expert, I can't honestly say whether this is better or worse than the other apps for a music professional. However, I can say that this was the easiest one to learn and get into. The thing that I liked the most was just the huge library of sounds included in the game. You can even import your own sounds (although I haven't tried that out myself yet). There's also lots of stuff on the Steam workshop that are pretty cool to checkout. There's several layouts and bundles to discover for changing how you would normally play. You can change the shapes. There's a few different tools to play around with that will change how the instrument sounds. You can pitch up or down. You can move stuff around easily. You can loop sounds or use a sequencer to make the arrangement that you want with varying instruments and different intervals. There's just so much here, yet it's also very simple to learn. The worst thing for me was definitely the locomotion. There's teleportation and slide locomotion and it was like choosing the lesser of two evils as they are both not very well implemented in this game. I also found it a little difficult to be precise in the notes that I wanted to hit for some of the default layouts (although you can change that I suppose). Rate 8/10. Very robust musical app that's easy to use with lots of options for both musical noobs and veterans.
I was expecting to be able to hold the tools vertically (like drumsticks), but you can only hold them horizontally (like guns). This makes it extremely counter-intuitive to use all the sound pads, as you have to thrust into them instead of hitting them like drums, as one would expect. All of the elements and interface are also way too small, as if the UI was scaled back or something. I haven't found any option in the settings to correct either of these issues. This seems like a really promising product otherwise, so I hope the devs can answer my concerns.
I've been wanting to make music for a while, but I can't play any instruments and the apps for making music are either very limited or not user friendly. Exa is exactly what I had been looking for! It is so easy for someone like me, with no training in music whatsoever, to come up with loops and sequences. It is so user friendly and intuitive! Can't wait to keep experimenting with it and get gud! I swear, the hours just fly by when I play around with this thing. It is worth every penny and more. Thank you, developer, I got no idea how you put this together all by yourself. This app should be more popular!
Spark a bowl and jump in
This is amazing, truly underrated. I had been looking for VR music creator for a few days and decided to give this one a shot since it seemed to have more sounds and more interative elements than other apps just like it, and it does! It's easy to use while still having the option to dive deep if you want to. You can hook up your own MIDI keyboard if you want to, which is an amazing feature, and you can put in your own samples as well. This is quickly becoming one of my favourite VR apps and I highly recommend it!
An amazingly well polished application with surprising depth. It's like Tilt Brush for musicians. With multiplayer and workshop support, it's a steal at $15.
In a couple of years, i see us wondering how we made music before. This Application goes beyond any expectations i had, about something like this could be right now in VR. Mind = blown
