Very short and stupid game with no progression what so ever. Good for playing one match maybe.
"Evolution of War" is technically, amongst other things, an asset flip. The "developer" got a few Unity asset store assets, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers. It's important to also note the "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. This is a very basic bare bones "soldier defense/attack" game where you create units that march towards the enemy units and fight them on a 2D plane. Smash out as many units as you can as fast as you can. The "gimmick" here is that the developer managed to get his hands on all kinds of assets so you start with like, orcs or dinos or something, and go up to tanks. It's a mis-mash train wreck where nothing fits. The assets are completely mismatched. The gameplay is imbalanced and shonky. Truly, one of the worst games I've played on Steam, and I've played more video games than anyone else on the planet. And reviewed more video games than anyone else on the planet. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Evolution of War has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. All the achievements have the same attainment rate of under 10%, the remaining players didn't bother, they just uninstalled the game. It's likely the achievements were all from one player (possibly the developer testing the Steam launch). That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. The game contains stock/store assets and other packages, but the "developer" here hasn't credited the people who actually did the work for the game. While this isn't necessarily against the license for the use of those assets, claiming the work of others as your own is highly unethical. Gamers should be made aware when a developer behaves unethically, as buying games from unethical developers puts the gamers money at risk. Evolution of War is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
