Twitchy, arcade-like, Ubisoft-like slop only broken up by tedious, boring puzzles
Everspace 2 is a fantasmic array of combat, trading, exploration, looting, puzzles, and leveling decisions. It's giving me much more in most of those areas than I thought to look for in a Freelancer-style game. The game is more polished than a showroom model. At first I thought the main character would be a boring, cloned, sci-fi trope. The story for the full-game is spaceballs beyond better than what I expected. It's a breath of fresh air! The missions, and other activities, are far more varied than most games that let players explore freely. There's also a variety of music that sometimes takes me back to film space operas. At this point I'd reiterate that Everspace 2 is a highly action-oriented game made to be more arcadey than simulation. Except that wouldn't heighten this review enough to do justice to the amount of fun I'm having. Therefore, I must exaggerate by saying that if I was Spock, and I owned an arcade--I would clone myself, freeze Spock, and trade his arcade for Everspace 2! I was looking for a Freelancer-style game because I never got to play one past its demo. Though I wanted to for many years. When I first set off in Everspace 2, I thought it'd be nice to have a few more trading-related features. Such as randomized, market updates that would change as the story advances. But I'm having so much fun with all the hidden surprises, and problem-solving. I'm gravitated by this riveting masteroid that takes me from neverwhen to everspace. Keep in mind the DLC will cost more if you want it. The sales were what brought the game to my attention because it somehow evaded my wishlist previously. But if your pocket is jumping to support the genre, this is one I highly recommend regardless of sales.
The core gameplay is nice but repetetive; the space combat feels good. The story is a bit boring, it is more like a visual novel. You can't make decisions or influence your character's decisions in any way. Would not buy at full price.
I wish I could reccomend EVERSPACE 2. I really do. I'm a sucker for all things Sci-fi, and the art direction and ship models dragged me in initially, but EVERSPACE suffers a major design flaw that I just cant get over. I don't mind the floaty combat, I like the customisation of devices, the ships -while samey in design- function differently enough that I enjoyed trying out the different types, but the thirty seconds to minute and a half long loading screens between every single piece of content means I am putting the game down forever. You will spend 5-10 minutes inside an arena, doing the mission, fighting, what have you, but then to fly anywhere else through the system takes so long I just can't stand it. No Man's Sky does something simillar with the flight between planets, but there i'm spending upwards of 40 minutes on a planet exploring, harvesting resources, visiting POI's that I dont mind the 45 seconds it takes to get to another planet. But when EVERSPACE askes me to spend 15-20% of my gametime in a hands off cutscene of travel, I just feel insulted. Unfortuately this is a fundimental flaw with how the game is designed, and no new content will ever fix it for me. Missions are too short, and the time between them far too long to ever be worth my time.
非常有底子的游戏,而且很可惜,官方还是想做他的肉鸽,故事其实可有可无!
A modern Freelancer
I wanted to like this game. Sadly if you want to play HOTAS or HOSAS it is unplayable. Constant issues with keybinds and inputs. Play it on gamepad and you might have a good time but that is not for me and that is not why I bought this game. Also missing VR support but that is just something I would like, not a reason for negative review.
If you loved 2003's Freelancer, this will be a welcome blast from the past. Pros - Visuals. Space looks great and the explosions and weapon effects are very satisfying. Some of the vistas are genuinely breathtaking. Ships are highly detailed and the engine overall is very polished. It also ran great on my rig with high FPS with everything maxxed out. - Combat. If you're not ready for it, it can be a little disorienting at first, but this is true zero-G space combat. You can adjust interial dampening if you'd rather not go flying around all over the place. There's lots of options too. You can grab a little scout fighter and fly around super fast or an enormous gunship and tank all the damage while dumping DPS on enemies. Up to you. - Ship customization. It's not that deep, but it's fun to swap cosmetic modules around and change paint schemes to fit your taste. You DO have to find modules and colors out in the game world, though. Cons - Voice acting. This is something the game has in common with Freelancer. Some VAs aren't that bad, but more than half aren't good. Bonus if the character has a regional accent. - Cutscenes. I'm not a fan of the "motion comic" cutscenes, but they get the job done. - Occasional difficulty spikes. - Some features like fast travel (which you have to unlock via a quest) are poorly explained. It looks great, building out your ship is a lot of fun and there aren't many 6DOF combat sims like this.
