Thank you to my wonderful friend for such a thoughtful gift! Life for Cereus is pretty mundane until he loses his memory of one day…of course it is the ONE day that anything exciting has ever happened to him!
The Story & Gameplay
Life is pretty mundane for Cereus working in a hypnotherapy clinic as a receptionist until you end up losing your memory of one day, and of course it would be the one day where anything exciting happens to him! There are four routes you can take in this boy's love novel with three romanceable characters (10 endings in total). This is a novel in the “Mind Deceivers” Trilogy and I did play and recommend the first one. This one can be played solo however. Each title is centered around a new character and their own story. Like the first game your route is determined by certain actions you take or replies you make at points in the game. If you turn on the hint wheel during one route run you can see how this works if you go to the pause menu (ESC) and look at the right hand side that breaks down where key points in the story are. The hint wheel can be turned on in the settings. At a certain point in the story you will be able to choose which route to pursue (out of ones available to you from the points you’ve accumulated with each character). Routes I had available were Dr. Vere, Homer, Kurokawa and Cyan. The game will notify you that you’ve entered so-and-so’s route once you choose. Save before choosing to reload easily for an alternate route. Not all routes will end (on their own) in a satisfactory way or fully explain what is going on but meshing pieces of information you learn over all the routes combined will give a better idea of what is happening overall. ⭐ A guide is available from frostylantern (you will have to translate it into English but I used the Google Translate app for my browser). Their guide will get you all the points for every character to make it easier to get all endings. Guide by frostylantern
Settings & Features
Settings & features include; language selection, text speed, audio controls, pure story experience or hints (on or off) and display options. Extras include unlockables upon the story’s completion and achievements. There are lots of save slots and the text is easy to read. * To change to English just look at the bottom right hand of the screen and hit EN.
The Visuals & Audio
Visually I enjoy the sprites, anime style and cel shaded. You unlock cg’s as you play. There is no voice acting, but some ambient sounds sprinkled throughout. The music is instrumental and okay. I did find it distracting honestly and turned it down to focus on the story. It was not unpleasant however and would be nice to listen to on its own. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3513397127
Overall Experience
When I first started reading this novel the main character came across as too needy and overly-trusting of others in his life, especially when he realizes he’s missing a whole day of memories and just takes their word for whatever they tell him. I was kind of upset by the way the main character was written, and then I started to question what was going on. If what I was reading was real or was I being messed with. The story revolves around hypnosis, and the levels of consciousness, bringing into play the models set forth by both Freud and Jung. At first this seems like a simple story and feels like it lacks depth until you start going down the individual routes. Once you start reading through all the routes the pieces start to fall into place you realize how much depth this story does have. An enjoyable read once you delve into it. I look forward to the final story in the trilogy. 🦋
Everlasting Snooze is a boys’ love visual novel where you follow Cereus Bai as he tries to unravel the mystery of sudden amnesia. Not a detail can be remembered from the day before - which coincidentally, seems to be one hell of a day to forget. Cereus works as the receptionist in a hypnotherapy clinic. He has always wanted to learn hypnotherapy, but unfortunately never ended up being accepted as a student due the fact he is emotionless, and being incapable of feeling seems to be too problematic in such a job, where you delve into the minds of others. All is not lost however, as he at the very least works in the world he wishes to be proficient in, and it just so happens that he’s found himself surrounded by some handsome and interesting men. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3543382058 While Everlasting Snooze carries the boys’ love tag, its primary focus is not at all romance. Instead, the story is about uncovering the day Cereus has forgotten, a mystery that made the story very interesting. But you're not just unveiling the mysteries of yesterday, as it seems there are many secrets to be unveiled. The first major character we meet aside from the protagonist, is Dr. Vere. Cereus’s boss, and also the man waking him up from hypnotherapy. He hides some deep secrets, ones that seem to leave some painful scars on his past. Secondly, coincidentally, Cereus seemed to have gotten a new roommate on the same day he had forgotten - Kurokawa, who also works under the same career, hypnotherapy. However, his ideals are much different to Dr. Vere. Finally, the third: Magenta, my personal favourite! Another person we know nothing about, due to meeting on the forgotten day. He uses hypnotherapy as a performance act, and with his flirty, fun nature, seems to be very popular. Everlasting Snooze does not necessarily have good endings, or a good conclusion to that route. Instead, each ending is to help you learn more details about the overall plot, sharing details about each character and what is happening as you go. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3543382028 There is also a very basic mini game included when Cereus attempts to perform hypnosis. You control yourself walking through the layers of their consciousness, stopping to occasionally relax them. At first I found this interesting and fun, however, when replaying other routes it is impossible to skip so I'd recommend saving after each mini game. To facilitate the replayability, multiple saves and a skip function are available. You can rewind a limited amount of text and see history. In the options, there are character profiles that show your unlocked information on each person as you go. There is also an achievements screen that shows you the requirements to meet specific endings. Combined with an option to show your progress towards certain values, the endings are not at all hard to unlock, especially if you use the guide frostylantern has posted on steam! The visuals for Everlasting Snooze are simple, but pretty. Each character has their own unique look, fitting to their personality, For example, Magenta, whose character design fits their flirty, playful personality. While Cereus rocks a very normal, generic look as the protagonist, a guy of no significance until the day of his amnesia arises. Backgrounds become interesting and creative at certain points in time to fit with the scenario the player is in. While in odd places, the background will reflect as so, with odd movements or not so natural surroundings. Length-wise, this is not at all a long visual novel that requires too much time. A several hour sitting could easily help you unravel the mysteries hidden within. The other games within this trilogy, "The Mind Deceivers", is also not required for you to fully understand Everlasting Snooze. They simply share genres and themes, and have some character cameos for those who play all three. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3543382083 Overall, when I first started Everlasting Snooze, I was a bit confused and lost. But that was just like Cereus, and I imagine, intentional. Over time as you unravel answers and progress, that confusion disappears and you start to understand. Afterall, waking up with amnesia would confuse anyone. I am yet to play anything else in the trilogy, but I would certainly recommend this one if you enjoy unraveling unique stories. The plot is nothing like I have personally played before, which also felt very refreshing. I would certainty recommend this game to anyone interested in hypnosis and a bit of mystery. Wow. Oh my. Damn. If the first Book (they are all standalone, don't worry) was interestingly weird... This one is straight up psychotic. XD It's one insane thing after another, ain't it? Sooooo many "psychological" things and on top of that... I see the "zombie" tag is back here again. Lol! There ain't no zombies people! More like... Nevermind, it'll take too long to explain. But first: BABYWHEEL IS BACK!!! From now on every Hint system should be called that. Two: English... The English is superb in this book! KUDOS! Three: I actually learned a few things I *didn't* know! Thank you. Now story wise: DON'T come here for the "FLUFFY BL" stuff!!! There ain't such thing here! Sure there might be cute bois, but... Uh... By the time you are done reading/putting stuff together... You wont even care about the romance/BL aspect. >.> (It's also more "dark/psychological" stuff versus romance... So don't rely on that either. There is your warning). Sadly, I am unable to comment on the three Love Interest's routes without spoiling anything. All I can say is... Damn and... Sheet. Then I will say this: Is the "PHANTOM's" Route supposed to be the TRUE ROUTE? Because you literally get all the information from the other Routes. I accidentally read it second, but at this point I didn't think it mattered... Because if you pay attention to the hints... You can see how disturbing things truly are. Also, love the concepts of Spirituality/Psychology. And uhm... I am uncertain if there are good ends in this one. Not that there should be at this point. It's all subjective isn't it? Damn it. Now I am going to be thinking about this for a while. *-* You did good. You did very good with this one! :D (I look forward to your next work. Even if it's different. Even if it's not overly crazy or weird. Your work always has something unique to it and that's what interests me the most. That and it teaches people stuff. So thanks you! And... YOU GOT THIS!!! :>)

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3
We are all just prisoners here of our own device.

Part 4
