Full honesty, it's an okay game. The new mechanics are fun, and the gameplay is certainly better than everhood 1. That said, completely lacks the same feeling of the first game. Without spoilers, it's an intentional duality / opposite ending of the first game. Just not really fulfilling as I'd hoped it would be. Still recommend, but don't get too excited.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. The best part about these games is that you never know if you're at the very end or at the very beginning.
I also played everhood 1 first and I guess built up false expectations for this game. I tried to go in with an open mind but the narrative is just a mess, I couldn't keep up. I got confused, quit, and eventually uninstalled.
what if everhood 1 sucked
when does it get good
boooooo
It's drastically less interesting than the first from a narrative standpoint (to the point that I'd say that the story's a waste of time and that's also Kind Of The Point), but better in regards to combat, music, and delivering the actual message the story's trying to convey. The plot moves mind-numbingly quickly and broadly Does Not Matter. Wouldn't recommend unless you REALLY liked the gameplay of the first game.
This is definitely one of the videogames ever made. One could argue that it has no plot and even prove it. Game so focused on the battles it takes all the first game did story-wise and commits defenestration. Title with ending so disappointing and meaningless it is impressive. This title's reputation preceeds it and is 100% deserved. But it also has fantastic soundtrack (which E1 also did have) and a hot slime baddie (which E1 did NOT have) so I have to put a recommendation.
