ETHER VAPOR Remaster works great with the XBox controller. If you have problems with the game running to fast, put a frame time limit of 60fps in place (MSI Afterburner, AMD or Nvidia Driver Centers or with another frame time limiter). The game itself has sadly only a resolution up to 1600x1200. If you like Shoot'Em Ups than this game could be for you, but sadly it's not for me (but I can see the potential).
I initially only started playing because I wanted to play Darius, but I enjoy this game. It's pretty good.
Good Game...

1Z 2X 3C 4V 5A 6S 7D 8F 9Q 10W This is an old game that I played during my primary school years, so the key assignments are different from the default key assignments of today's games. I'll give a brief introduction. Movement: ↑↓←→ (Up, Down, Left, Right arrows) Return to the title screen (or exit directly from the title screen): Esc Confirm: Z Cancel: X Fire(Gatling Weapon): Z (Hold down the key to charge and fire a penetrating bullet) Fire(Winder): X (Hold down the key to charge and create a circular area around yourself that deals damage to enemy planes) Fire(Lock-on): C (Release the key to charge and fire an enhanced homing missile at the target. Upon hitting, it will create a circular area that deals damage to enemy planes) During firing on "Winder" phase(the X key), pressing the V key and ↑↓←→ can change the firing angle. During the "Lock-on" phase (the C key), pressing the V key can switch targets. Skip Cutscenes/BIT Control: V Pause: A If you want to change the key assignments, the correspondence between numbers and keys is as follows: 1Z 2X 3C 4V 5A 6S 7D 8F 9Q 10W
Ether Vapor Remaster is a high-energy arcade shooter that wears its classic influences proudly while using cinematic flair to distinguish itself from more traditional top-down or vertical shmups. Developed by Edelweiss and published by PLAYISM, the remaster revisits a cult favorite with technical improvements and modern platform support, preserving the original’s intensity while smoothing some of its rougher edges. Rather than chasing realism or complex narrative systems, the game focuses squarely on spectacle, precision, and the thrill of mastering fast-moving combat under constant pressure. The premise places players in the cockpit of a powerful experimental fighter during a desperate conflict between two nations, one technologically outmatched and fighting for survival. Story elements are delivered sparingly, functioning primarily as context for the escalating series of missions and battles rather than as a central pillar of the experience. This minimalist approach to storytelling aligns well with the arcade tradition the game draws from, allowing players to stay immersed in the action without interruption. The narrative exists to heighten stakes, not to distract from the core loop of destruction and survival. Gameplay is where Ether Vapor Remaster truly asserts its identity. Unlike traditional shmups that lock the camera into a single perspective, this game constantly shifts viewpoints, moving between vertical scrolling, horizontal angles, and dramatic chase-camera sequences. These transitions keep each stage feeling dynamic and unpredictable, demanding quick adaptation from the player. Movement and positioning are critical, as enemy fire patterns and environmental hazards shift along with the camera, creating moments that feel almost cinematic in their pacing. The weapon system adds a layer of tactical depth to the relentless action. Players can switch between multiple weapon types, each with distinct firing behaviors and charge mechanics. Mastery involves knowing when to rely on rapid-fire options, when to lock on to multiple targets, and when to unleash charged attacks for maximum impact. The lock-on system in particular encourages aggressive play, rewarding players who position themselves carefully to mark multiple enemies before detonating them in spectacular fashion. Boss encounters serve as the game’s most memorable highlights. Massive enemy craft dominate the screen, unleashing complex attack patterns that test reflexes, spatial awareness, and weapon management. These fights often feel like climactic set pieces rather than simple difficulty spikes, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on presentation and scale. Success comes from learning patterns and staying calm under pressure, making victories feel earned rather than accidental. Visually, the remaster enhances the original’s strengths without radically altering its aesthetic. Explosions are vivid, enemy designs are bold, and backgrounds convey a sense of motion and scale even when detail is limited by the game’s age. The dynamic camera work does much of the heavy lifting, creating dramatic angles that mask technical limitations and keep the action engaging. Sound design complements this well, with impactful weapon effects and music that reinforces the urgency of each mission. Replayability is driven by score chasing and performance optimization rather than branching content. Online leaderboards encourage repeated runs, pushing players to refine routes, improve accuracy, and maximize efficiency. Like many arcade shooters, Ether Vapor Remaster shines brightest when approached as a game of mastery, where familiarity transforms chaos into controlled precision. Players who enjoy honing skills and shaving seconds off runs will find plenty of motivation to return. That said, the game’s design may not appeal to everyone. Those expecting deep customization, extensive narrative development, or modern accessibility features may find it limited. Camera shifts, while exciting, can occasionally feel disorienting, especially for players more accustomed to fixed-perspective shooters. Additionally, some technical aspects reflect the game’s older foundations, and it does not fully embrace modern widescreen standards without adjustment. Ultimately, Ether Vapor Remaster stands as a celebration of arcade shooter sensibilities filtered through a cinematic lens. It prioritizes momentum, spectacle, and mechanical mastery over narrative depth or systemic complexity. For fans of classic shmups who appreciate dramatic presentation and relentless pacing, it offers a thrilling experience that rewards focus and persistence. While it may not redefine the genre, it succeeds in delivering a distinctive, high-impact shooter that honors its roots while remaining engaging years after its original release. Rating: 7/10
