A mashup of the first gen 3D games with a tint of classic retro style graphics embezzled with a touch of modern gaming engines, this game resonates the very first of the games of era when Nvidia was still in its early stages....This game feels like as if you are piloting the plane of Tails from Sonic The Hedgehog, but much better than that of course. You fly a jet , make vigorous use of your turret that drops three type of guns, including lock-on missile and blast your way around exploding all sorts of flying menacing enemies, with each scene presenting a final Boss. A true mayhem experience, a nostalgic come-back to video game, and on top of that, When its a plane you have to fly, You know the game is going to be a fun. Punch the throttle and free the skies of any bullet-spraying threat. Get this bird in the air and tear apart the clouds.
Too tough for me. Levels are too short. No upgrades. Not enough shields (number of hits you can take). Too few continues or credits. You can earn more, but I'm not sure how. Either high scores or number of games. In any case, it requires replaying the same levels over and over and over. I don't have the patience. Different perspective angles, not always side scrolling from left to right, so that's cool. As was the little interlude where you were locking on and shooting down many rockets as your perspective constantly changed cinematically. The controls were fine with analog or d-pad. I often had trouble seeing enemy bullets especially when firing myself. Got worse in scene 3. Did not progress farther than that.
Ether Vapor Remaster is a little bit of everything kind of shoot em up that doesn't quite get anything completely right. Everything feel almost there, but lack the polish to make this game anything more than mediocre and forgettable. I hadn't played this game in a couple weeks before writing this review, and I couldn't remember anything about it. Even if Ether Vapor Remaster does have some standout mechanics. The first is the player's ship is equipped with 3 different weapon types. The player doesn't gain pick-ups or power-ups as far as I've seen. Which is something I like in my shooters. I want to know that I have all the tools at my disposal to a handle what they game is throwing at me. And the 3 weapons work very well with each having a pro and a con. The 3 weapons are a powerful forward facing shot that seems to deliver the most consistent DPS as long the player can keep the enemies in its path. The second weapon is a spread shot, which is weaker but pretty much covers the entire area in front of the player's ship. And the final weapon is a lock on homing missile, this does decent damage but has a delay as it locks on and only targets a single enemy at a time. A good portion of the Ether Vapor Remaster is the player figuring out which weapon is most suitable to each situation. This is my favorite part of the game as it is the most well though out and realized portion of the game. The controls feel a little sluggish for some of the enemy projectile speeds the game throws at the player. The player's ship moves at more of a bullethell pace when Ether Vapor Remaster is more of a traditional, old school shmup. Think playing the Thunder/Lightening Force games on the slowest speed. Speaking of enemy projectiles, most of them are fine. However, some enemies fire a thin dark red, fast moving projectile that would be hard enough to see on its own, but these projectiles also aren't that different from some of the player's own shots easily getting mixed in. Creating tons of situations where it's tough to see what needs to be dodged. Add to this difficulty in seeing what to dodge, Ether Vapor Remaster throws in a little RayForce/Layered Section with targets on a background plane. These enemies can sometimes be hit with the lock on missile, but it can be difficult to tell with out the assist on. And the assist does no favors for the aesthetics of the early 3D polygon game. This is combined with the fact that the game loves throwing enemies from every direction as well as bum rushing the player's ship. All requiring more memorization and little reflexes/on-the-fly routing due to the aforementioned sluggish movement. Full disclosure, I never liked the early 3D polygons era of video games. Some shooters managed to pull it off, but many didn't. Ether Vapor Remaster is one that didn't in my opinion. Most everything that isn't a giant robot mecha is uninspired blocks or circles. The only real pro of the game using polygons is that the transition from vertical to horizontal to rail shooter is fairly seamless. But otherwise, I don't think the game is particularly attractive. The last thing to note is the game offers the player more extends and continues the more they play it. So, for someone like me who isn't great at shmups, I can continue to grind at the game and see most everything it has. Which is fine, on the one hand, I'd rather just credit feed my way through games I'm not especially interested such as Either Vapor Remaster. But on the other hand, I can't fault the game trying to create some replay-ability. All in all, I don't think I can recommend Ether Vapor Remaster. As much as there are several elements I like, there's too many things dragging it down to make the overall experience enjoyable. I just can't get into a game with the level of not seeing what hit me and not having the movement speed to dodge/route that I feel I need. It's the simple stuff at the core with a bland appearance that doesn't give me much to engage with.
A theoretically good game, with a ton of minor flaws that drag it down quite a bit. The main levels are really good, but bosses feel too tanky, your weapons feel overall a bit too weak, bullet patterns feel a bit weird and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, your ship's hitbox isn't very clear, the scoring system isn't very intuitive (and even when you do understand it, its boring), the unlockable overdrive ship barely feels different from the regular ship, and the unlockable extras (which are probably concept art and story info) are hosted on a now defunct website so you can't access them. Not terrible, but far from worth buying, especially at full price.
Pure score attack shmup. There are no power ups or any drops from enemies of any sort that I have seen. You do unlock extra continues over time and there seems to be a way to increase the number of shield hits you can take but I have not seen that yet and at start it appears you can choose from different ships but there is nothing to indicate this and there are no other ships unlocked at start. If you love score attacks and think power ups or currency or any kind of drops from enemies are just a distraction, you will love this game. There is nothing wrong with the game so I won't neg it just because it is not for me, but will say there should be a tutorial or something to explain a few things like how continues and shield unlocks happen and the fact that 2 of 3 weapons have an additional attack if you hold down the button... But the three weapons you have are a good mix to maximize kills for scoring when in certain situations...find yourself being forced to the side to dodge bullets, switch to the wide angle gun and get those crackers on your peripheral...see a big dog getting into stance, charge up your gatling gun and wallop him with a cannon blast...see enemies in the background that you can't hit with any direct shots, use your main gun lock on.. And the switching is instant, you just hit the button for that attack, no hitting a different button to switch guns....
One of the best Shmup games ever made, up there with the likes of Ikaruga

[th]Aspecto[/th][th]Puntuación (0-10)[/th][th]Comentario[/th]

Jugabilidad7Shooter arcade cumplidor: esquivar/disparar funciona y engancha.
