Escape Goat 2

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this game until now. As a fan of the first Escape Goat, I can say Escape Goat 2 was also a lot of fun. The puzzles were challenging, the goat was a goat, the sheep were sheep, the game had a lot of interesting mechanics. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

Escape Goat 2 is a charming and clever puzzle platformer that improves on the original in nearly every way — better art style, a non-linear overworld map so you're never truly stuck, and a satisfying difficulty curve that introduces new mechanics through smart level design rather than tutorials. The stained glass aesthetic and atmospheric soundtrack give the game a distinctive personality that kept me engaged throughout. That said, a handful of late-game levels lean too hard into precision platforming with floaty controls, which can turn a satisfying puzzle experience into frustrating trial-and-error — and some switches don't telegraph what they affect, which feels cheap rather than clever. If you enjoyed the first game or just want a quality indie puzzle platformer, this is absolutely worth picking up, especially on sale.

puh, fertig. Escape Goat 2 ist größer und umfangreicher als der Vorgänger. Dadurch aber leider nicht unbedingt besser. Teil 1 war simpel und übersichtlich, mit einer angenehmen Lernkurve. Der Nachfolger wird sehr schnell sehr schwer und dadurch teilweise auch frustrierend. Gutes Puzzlespiel, ohne Zweifel. Aber lasst euch durch die aufgemotzte Optik nicht täuschen - Teil 1 ist besser 😊🙌

My recommendation: If you're a big fan of puzzle platformers, get this game. If you're a small fan, wait for a sale. As an old game, it goes on very deep sales. Solid game all around. The puzzles are nice, the art looks good and the soundtrack is fantastic (and free on Bandcamp!) As for negatives: The game isn't that hard until you get to the halway point (and it gets even harder with the secret rooms. Those are fun to find!). Also be aware that the puzzles aren't as "lean" as they could be. There's sometimes elements of the level that don't serve a clear purpose. I guess that's a symptom of the game's age.

Overall a really nice little puzzle platformer and a good sequel to the original. Good amount of content, decent level design. A little challenging in places but on the whole the game is on the easier side (excluding the secret levels). Great soundtrack, as usual for this developer. The writing is enjoyable, even if it's just a few lines of dialogue. It's a small thing but the sound and visuals for the mechanisms shifting positions in the levels is something I always found really satisfying in the original Escape Goat, and that's the case here as well. I did find the platforming to be a bit frustrating in a few places. And, like in the original Escape Goat, some of the levels can be cheesed. But these were minor blemishes on an otherwise charming and worthwhile game. I completed all of the non-secret levels in 6 hours and stopped there, I've not got the patience for hunting down the secrets levels which, from what I've seen, are very difficult and also very well hidden with no hints.

在玩完前16个大关的时候，我感觉这个续作比前作确实强不少，美术就不说了，关卡设计也有提升，但是这沟槽的手感还是没怎么改。奉劝一句，做平台跳跃游戏弄不好惯性，搞得手感恶心的一比，那真不如不弄，这样你做游戏还省点事，何乐而不为呢。 但是不出意料的出了意料，这最后一个大关和作者发瘟了一样，每一关都混乱的批爆，各种试错找路线，再加上一堆因为手感导致的不应该死亡，整个人都晕了，到最后真是一边骂着一边打完的，太离谱了。 整体体验大概就是90%的7分加上10%的0分。 6.5/10

This game is very underrated, a perfect blend of platforming and puzzles, with an excellent OST. I don't know why this game hasn't recorded my hours, I've beaten it twice in the past! Just steam being weird.

As a puzzle game it does not really hit the spot, mostly because this feels like it's a platformer first and a puzzle game second. I don't enjoy knowing exactly what to do but not being able to execure on it.
