About
On a deserted island, there was a repeated phenomenon of large numbers of infected individuals appearing and then disappearing. As a result of the investigation, it was discovered that a virus was the cause, and the organization to which the protagonist belongs began an investigation.
The player’s goal is to uncover the mystery of this virus and eradicate it.
This game is developed using Unreal Engine, and we have released videos explaining the development process up to version 0.1 on YouTube. We hope this will be of some help to anyone interested in game development.
The abnormal phenomena occurring on this deserted island are caused by the virus. It continuously mutates and multiplies, gradually making the environment more hostile.
The player's objective is to research and eradicate this virus.
First, you must explore various areas and collect items from which the virus can be extracted for research.
Your role is to understand the virus's characteristics and interactions, and then bring the results back to headquarters.
Research takes time, but you can speed up the process significantly by conducting research simultaneously at multiple facilities or by injecting a large quantity of the virus into specific equipment.
However, you can't begin anything without first acquiring the virus. Players won't just wait around either.
As the story progresses, you'll be able to release the virus from your research facilities.
For example, you can release a virus found in the "forest" into the "city," causing changes that wouldn't normally occur in that environment.
Promote virus proliferation to improve investigation efficiency.
Trigger mutations through interactions between different viruses.
Utilize virus interference to mitigate environmental degradation.
Since there are viruses that cannot be acquired solely through exploration, it's crucial to uncover their interactions and continue your research.
However, be careful—recklessly releasing viruses can quickly make the environment much harsher.
The player always has one most important goal: to survive and return from the deserted island alive.
If you fail to make it back, you’ll lose everything you've gained from the exploration.
Call a helicopter via the radio attached to the virus research facility and escape.
However, it will take time for the helicopter to arrive, so act before the situation becomes too difficult to survive.
The virus on this deserted island has the characteristic of repeatedly appearing and disappearing, so the next time you explore, you'll start from the same initial conditions.
Moreover, items you obtain on the island likely have viruses attached, so you can't bring them back to headquarters.
Your equipment will also reset to its initial state.
Knowledge obtained by completing quests, repaired equipment, and unlocked doors are saved as "memory" and carried over to the next investigation.
This memory can lead to the development of new scenarios in future explorations, so be sure to actively progress through quests alongside virus research.
Mutants are created through virus mutations.
They spread contamination around them, so long-term close combat should be avoided.
Mutants appear frequently depending on the virus's state, but by stabilizing the mutation, you can prevent their appearance.
Players can grow through the skill tree, acquiring new abilities, enhancing their stats, and expanding the range of items they can craft.
Additionally, as virus analysis progresses, weapon mods and virus inoculation features will be unlocked, significantly broadening the scope of gameplay.

I enjoy having the ability to be first-person and third-person, but that's all that the game has shown besides boring gameplay. I will give the developer credit since this is an early access game, but I do hope they add other interesting gameplay mechanics. They could add an melee weapons to the game; they could also give us the ability to make bases. (summary) its boring but they could add more interesting things to spice up gameplay.
Endure Island by Izanabit is an ambitious free-to-play survival shooter that tries to merge open-world exploration, roguelite structure, and experimental systems into a single experience. Set on a quarantined island overrun by a mutating virus, the game frames itself around both survival and investigation, asking players not only to fight infected enemies but also to understand and manipulate the very source of the outbreak. It’s a concept that immediately stands out within the crowded survival genre, offering the promise of a more systemic and reactive world rather than a purely combat-driven one. The core gameplay loop revolves around venturing out into the island, gathering resources, studying virus samples, and attempting to escape before being overwhelmed. Each run carries a sense of risk, as failure results in losing most of your gathered materials, while successful escapes allow you to retain knowledge and progress. This creates a cyclical structure where each attempt builds on the last, blending survival mechanics with roguelite-style persistence. The inclusion of a “memory” system helps soften the punishment of failure, allowing players to gradually unlock new areas, skills, and crafting options even as individual runs reset. What sets Endure Island apart is its focus on the virus as a dynamic system rather than a static threat. Players can collect and experiment with virus samples, influencing how the infection spreads and evolves across the island. In theory, this creates a feedback loop where your actions directly shape the difficulty and behavior of the world. This idea introduces a layer of strategy that goes beyond simply managing health and ammunition, encouraging players to think about how their decisions affect the broader environment. At its best, this system adds a sense of unpredictability and agency that feels genuinely unique. However, the execution of these ideas is uneven. While the virus mechanics are conceptually interesting, they are not always clearly explained, which can make the game feel opaque and difficult to fully grasp. Players may find themselves experimenting without fully understanding the consequences of their actions, leading to a trial-and-error approach that can feel more confusing than rewarding. This lack of clarity extends to other systems as well, including progression and crafting, which are layered but not always well-integrated. Combat is a central part of the experience, but it is also one of its weaker elements. Encounters with infected enemies are frequent, and the presence of mutations adds some variation, but the shooting mechanics lack the responsiveness and impact needed to make these encounters consistently satisfying. Enemy behavior can feel repetitive, and the balance between challenge and frustration is inconsistent, especially when the game’s systems combine in ways that overwhelm the player without clear warning. Instead of feeling tense and strategic, combat can sometimes feel clunky and unpredictable. Exploration plays a significant role, with the island offering a mix of natural landscapes and scattered structures to investigate. There is a sense of scale and openness, but the environment often lacks the detail and cohesion needed to feel fully immersive. While some areas are visually interesting, others feel sparse or underdeveloped, and the overall world design does not always support meaningful discovery. The atmosphere leans toward isolation and danger, but it struggles to maintain that tone consistently due to repetitive assets and limited environmental storytelling. The presentation, while built on a capable engine, reflects the game’s uneven development. Visually, it can shift between moments of clarity and areas that feel unfinished or lacking polish. The audio design is functional but minimal, providing basic feedback without contributing much to the mood or tension. This results in an experience that feels mechanically focused but lacking in sensory depth, which is particularly noticeable in a genre that often relies heavily on atmosphere. Despite its flaws, Endure Island shows clear ambition. The combination of survival mechanics with a dynamic, player-influenced system has the potential to create something genuinely distinctive. There are moments where the game’s ideas come together, offering glimpses of a more complex and reactive experience. These moments highlight what the game could have been with more refinement and clearer design direction. As a free-to-play title, it offers a low barrier to entry, making it easy to explore its systems without commitment. However, the lack of polish, inconsistent execution, and relatively low player engagement limit its long-term appeal. While it may attract players interested in experimental survival mechanics, it is unlikely to sustain interest for those looking for a more polished or content-rich experience. Ultimately, Endure Island is a game defined by its ideas rather than its execution. It introduces creative concepts that push beyond standard survival gameplay, but it struggles to fully realize them in a cohesive and satisfying way. For players willing to overlook its rough edges, there is some value in exploring its systems and experimenting with its mechanics. For most, however, it will feel like an intriguing but unfinished project. Rating: 4/10
"Endure Island" is a godawful Unreal asset flip. The developer stole a bunch of Unreal assets and slapped them into a blender, dumping the mangled result onto a basic Unreal shooter blueprint to make a pointless, contentless wave survival shooter. Ignore the store blurb, this is half a day's effort with the Unreal Marketplace. Not a real, genuine game. Sure, this might look nice in screen shots, but that's just because the developer ripped off a bunch of reasonable looking assets here. There's no game to back it up. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too, and that's glaringly obvious here. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
I figured out that this should be a survival game , well it is but you can't do much here..
+ not bad gunplay + nventory system + day/night cycle + zombies impact - no map/questbook where the player can choose next target
