Well, I like woke Mega Man tbh. Style is cool (sometimes too colorful making it hard to see all of whats going on). Music is great! It does feel like the hit box on her dive kick is inconsistent but otherwise. I copped this game twice! I can see why people are mad at the tutorial telling you things you should know the first you play it....
Overall solid little roguelite, very fast paced game and I could see some speedrunners liking the zoomies you can do.
Elsie is a frenetic paced MegaMan-esque/platforming roguelite. You can tell the devs definitely put a lot of heart into the game, the effort shows in the aesthetic, gameplay and presentation. I love the mechanics, the pixel art and the music. The voice actors are great, though there are a few sections that are inconsistent, expecting a character to speak but only getting text. I've noticed a fair number of glitches and minor oversights (mostly text, such as item descriptions or conversations) or mechanics/stats lacking context or explanation. There is a bit of hitching or slowdown if you make builds that launch a ton of bullets at once, even on a high end system like mine. Basically, the game lacks polish in a few areas, but overall is quite fun to play once you get the mechanics down and is a solid recommendation for fans of the genres involved. The devs recently updated the game, and released another patch fixing a few issues I'd noted. Buy Elsie if you enjoy games like 30XX, Berserk Boy, Gravity Circuit, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Shantae, Shovel Knight, etc.
Elsie is a game I feel bad for. Rarely have I seen a game with this much effort and surface level polish get such a negative review score. Not to mention, the fallout of the Completionist clearly had a massive impact on the marketing for the game. So I kept my eye on it for a few years in hopes it would improve from its buggy launch. I’m happy to report that I didn’t see any bugs in the hour I played. I likely should play more… but I don’t think I will. I’m getting a refund. That sounds bad, but I do want to clear that the main reason for doing so is how overstimulated the game is. Like, the colors and action overwhelm me in a way that makes me feel weird afterwards. It’s hard to explain, but playing makes me need a break after a bit. I also don’t think runs have save points, so if I can’t play a whole run at once, I have to reset the run and get nowhere. The other major issue is lack of communication about what anything does. There are a lot of terms that were not explained when I started, and I don’t know what any of them do. I kind of figured out a few, but proper teaching or a reference guide would have been nice. But the rest of the gameplay works. Shooting, jumping, and enemy design work. If this game didn’t overstimulate my senses with too much color, I would enjoy it more. It’s a shame, but it is what it is. This might be more of a pity thumbs up, but I still recommend it. It deserved better than 70% positive.
Game slaps. Tricky to get started, but worth it if you can understand the parry. I don't do many reviews, but this one deserves the thumbs up.
It's a fun and round game, there is room for improvement but definitely this is a cyber-pop gem <3
This game is a combination of megaman and Hades. Has Cool art, the music is really good and the gameplay too. Has some bugs and the jumping puzzles (Golden Rings) need some work because are difficult to navigate but everything else is really great. Here is some gameplay of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF4bqdWQZxc&t=7798s
This is an absolutely amazing game, the metroidvania combined with the mega man aesthetic is a truly great combination for a game. Pair in the voice acting with the customization's as well as the amount of upgrades, which makes the game have an immense amount of replayability. Where it lacks compared to other games, it can take you back to the retro times of platformers as well as the nostalgia that those times would bring to you. The game is new so bugs are to be expected, I would still recommend this game for anyone that remembers the time of the old mega man, castlevania, and metroid style games.
1. Chancleta 2. Cafesito 10/10 la historia. Aqui mi review: https://youtu.be/T3yZnKeGU0I
Cautious recommend on a discount, The fundamental jumping and shooting feels good for the most part, the way momentum carries into a jump from moving-stance feels weird, nothing major. The parry is a neat addition, but I feel the active period is way too long, even on the lowest setting. I think tightening the timing would help to make it feel better. Once I was hit before the parry window started... only to parry the same attack few frames later (big sword guys). Items, upgrades, guns are fun to play around it even if they're nothing ground breaking and making a busted homing firefly build is always fun, however waaaaaay too many items are locked behind progression/grind. You will keep finding blueprints for new items at an astounding rate while playing it, a lot of them could be genuinely just available from the get go (make elemental infusion items default, please). The biggest issue are the bugs, however. Some of them happened semi-persisently. I don't think there was a run a room would spawn enemies, but their behavior and hitboxes didn't load in. Once I fell through the floor after defeating the last boss in a run. Other time the assets wouldn't load in starting a run after changing player/enemy outline colours. And so on and so on. It never was anything that would spoil my experience completely (well, maybe except the dissapearing assets bit), but it got annoying. It's a good if a bit standard rogue-lite platformer, I like it more than I ever did Dead Cells tbh, but it's got too many technical issues for me to recommend at a full price. Last thing, please consider adding some sort of setting to universally change enemy bullet colour, it could help with the chaos that usually happens at the end game. Elsie's cute.
