New Positive review 22 August 2024 = Electronic Universe is a Free VR electronic musical shooter game. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, sounded ok, played ok. CONS: Does not work on Index controllers. Maybe try this free game if you have a HTC Vive. Old Negative Review 5 May 2023 = Electronic Universe is a Free VR electronic musical shooter game. It worked to a point on my Index system, looked ok, sounded ok, played nope. CONS: - Epic game breaking bug, Index controllers don't work on this game. Not able to trigger the UI buttons in the lobby. Maybe try this free game, if you don't have Index.

Nice rhytm shooter. Music good, but need settings.
cool!!!
Pew-pew-pew, but in VR.
Didn't like it. Don't recommend it. The controls (at least on Valve Index) are half broken - you have hold your thumb on the touchpad for the triggers to work, and menu navigation only works with the left hand. The gameplay itself is also lackluster, the aiming feels very off, the guns don't shoot half the time (they are semi automatic), not sure if that is the "rhythm game" part or something. Missing even one target makes you reset to the start of the level. At least the music is kinda decent though. I also couldn't figure out how to pick up powerups.
"Electronic Universe" is a pointless VR tech demo. What do you do in the game? It's just a VR rail shooter with some really crap music in the background. The camera moves you around and you shoot various obstacles by waving your hands around in VR. This comes across as a minimum viable product cash grab, and the presence of fake paid reviews from the Russian review farm uncovered by Sentinels of the Store hammers that down. The graphics aren't great, low poly minimalist neon garbage. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This product features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the product launched on Steam, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Due to the 2024 FTC ruling, these fake reviews are a violation of US Federal Law (16 CFR § 465.2, 15 U.S.C. § 45)
Given that this free game won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? Definitely not. No up front price, but I still feel ripped off. Because the game is removed from Steam (certainly a win for gamers), you can't add it to your library. Hopefully this review can at least help people understand why this failed, and why, if you do happen to have this dead game in your library before it was killed, it's not worth downloading.
