This is a game that you should play only after playing either Akio or Takashi, the other two games in this series. You can play both to get the "whole" story, but honestly, you won't be missing much if you skipped Akio. After this game, if you are alright with the writing and characters, go on to Kurenai. Is this worth the nine bucks price tag? Only if it came with Akio and/or the Takashi version. By itself, not really. This particular game of the series had an interesting twist, which was surprising. In conclusion, I'd recommend it, sure, but not by itself.
I loved East Tower -Kuon. He's such an assertive person. These "Tower" games were my first roseVeRte games and inspired me to buy more. Great game series.
Also alles oder nichts~
East Tower Vol.3 is a sparkling diamond
[Light spoiler warning for about the first 10 or so minutes of the VN!] I have complicated feelings! This game went into a route I was NOT expecting from my memories of the previous two games, but I'm a sucker for that exact kind of plot point so it got my attention. However I feel like it moved way too fast to get into the time loop plot twist? I would have liked if it went through an entire route without Kuon blitzing through it like he did. I understand from the perspective of Kuon on WHY he does that since he's in a timeloop and just wants to get through the stages fast, but it makes the impact of the plot twist just... not hit as hard imo? I understand that it immediately wants to establish Kuons route as a mystery on why the loop is happening, but as an afficionado for timeloop stories I was a bit disappointed that that plot beat got dropped on me without too much fanfare? THAT SAID when it gets a bit more time to stew in Kuon communicating his frustrations with the timeloop, I can really see the sauce. (Such as when Sakuya doesn't remember a previous loop and he says something she said to him and him getting sad because she isn't the same person as the Sakuya of that loop) I also kinda dislike how Kuon downplays Sakuyas gender issues, part of what I liked about the previous volume 2's love interest was how openly they accepted Sakuya, no matter what she decides she identifies at the end of the day but Kuon just... "knew" she was female the first time they met (and he established specifically that NO, this was not something he learned through timeloops he just innately was able to tell the very first time he met her?) and just treats her like a girl without noticing she has an issue with it, especially considering he's HAD to have been in multiple timeloops where she talks about her insecurities it just kinda rubbed me the wrong way Dx Maybe it'll later go into how Kuons timeloops made him insensitive to her issues and just kinda forgot about them but considering how the previous 2 volumes that was a major focal point on Sakuyas character right down to how her dreamworld avatar that is formed from her literal wish is her in a male body it kind of just feels a bit of a step down? Maybe otome game players didn't like that Sakuya was having issues like that because they couldn't relate to that and just wanted a straight otome, but that's kinda what I found interesting about her cause I could really relate to her (and Takashi as well, can't sing enough praises for how well they handled Takashi and Sakuyas bonding over mutual understanding of each others difficulties with gender identity! Even if at the end of the day Sakuya always comes out of it realizing she's ok being a girl, it just feels a bit reductive comparatively idk Dx Maybe I just projected too hard on her and took it personally who knows lol It's honestly a hard sell! I genuinely do recommend Vol. 2 (and vol. 1 as an introduction to the plot and characters) since I thought it was heartfelt and the character relationship felt natural. I'm just not feeling the same spark with this one, which is personally a bummer for me because I LOVE timeloop stories! I don't want to leave a negative so I will say to give caution really for this one! If you're invested in the plot after playing the previous 2 volumes I'd say why not and get this one too? But I may have to update this once I do all the endings later. I've loved all of RoseVertes other games ive played (heck, one of their games has a similar-ish kind of mystery with looping routes and finding out the route you didn't wasn't as happy an ending as you thought it is, I LOVED that VN! I also believe another one involved time travel as well which was also well done) I hope the route I didn't do yet really changes my mind on this cause I want to like it so bad but I just can't feel the same spark as I did playing Vol. 2 Dx EDIT: I've done all the endings and my feelings haven't really changed since writing this. His route just feels like it went by too fast for me to develop any feelings for him.
I was not really feeling Kuon in this one to be honest. The story was still enjoyable, I had fun playing it. You finally make minor progress in the terms of understanding the whole story of East Tower. It served its purpose and had a lot of cute moments. The art also improved a lot from the first two installments. Still tho I gotta say, in the romance route I enjoyed Kuon the least compared to the previous love interests. Akio for the win !
Strongest of the first three entries in terms of plot, weakest in writing, and middle ground in execution. It's frustrating how lacking this series is, largely because it had potential to be so much better. It is what it is, I guess.
