The game is great however this steam port really is just embarrassing. The only reason I’m recommending this is because of a patch that allows it to run at a smooth 60fps and a with no black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, you’ll still have to put up with black bars on the sides but at least it’s better than what it was. Earthworm Jim is the amazing game (and series), no doubts, but there is one very important thing you need to know: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME ON STEAM It is a horrible port, seriously, its bad on so many levels -Horribly emulated and you will have problems with controls -Horribly cut comparing to the SEGA and NES versions - music and levels are missing, and there is NO info about that on the steam page. -20$ for 3 bad ports is a rip-off If you want to play this game, simply get SEGA or NES emulator and ROMs, so you could actually enjoy the game. I wish I could refund this game, but I bought the pack years ago before that new refund system and support refused to return my money when I bought it. Earthworm Jim Review: I'll first of all start by saying this is the MSDOS version so it runs on DOSBOX and I can't find any source ports for it. I hate how Steam shows the screenshots because the screenshots seem to have been taken using the Mega Drive/Genesis release because in the DOS version the picture of the gun on the ammo count is different from the one in the screenshots and they shown the Intestinal Distress level which isn't in the DOS version. But overall I call this version Average it is a good version but if you are an Earthworm Jim Newbie I suggest getting the Sega Mega CD/Sega CD or Windows 95 versions. I would take the Mega CD or Windows 95 version over this anyday but let's face it it isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Overall if you are new I wouldn't get this version but it is still ok. 5/10 GROOVY!!!!

Um, why are there so many bad reviews? This might just be a regular dosbox port of the dos version, but the dos version was probably the best aside from the Super ninteno and the Sega genesis versions. Normally, with fps games, I canNOT STAND DOSBOX. they have the absolute worse performace and quality and if you change the resolutions to anything higher than something really low, they make the game run at terrible perfomace. But with this game, that's not the case. It's the exact same dos version. Game runs surprisingly smooth and fluid, controls are easy and responsive, graphics and animations look great. As for the actual game, this should be a no brainer. I have yet to ever meet someone that dislikes this game. if they havent heard of it, I show them it and they become instantly hooked. Simple, fun, addictive gameplay. Platforming 2D greatness at its finest. The music is also amazing. For me this game has a ton of nostalgia, it consumed most of my childhood along with Doom, Blood, Turok, Sonic, and Spiderman games. Give it a shot, if you can get it on a super nintendo or a sega genesis that would be a better bet. but this one isn't bad at all, and works perfectly fine. and again I have no clue why the reviews are bad. This one works better than the gog version even! which is rare bc usually gog has the better support. The gog version works the same but the controls get unresponsive if more than 1 button is pressed at a time, some of the animations chop off, and it has a lag that makes it a pain in the ass to control. So if you're trying to pick between the gog version and this one; I'd say give this one a go.

Earthworm Jim is a wonderful game that was absolutely butchered in this port, which should honestly come as no surprise given Interplay's complete and utter fumbling and mishandling of this IP ever since they acquired it. I'm not 100% on licencing and things of that nature, but the fact that they chose...whatever weird DOS port this happens to be, as the version of Earthworm Jim to make available for real life actual currency on Steam, when there are several other WAY more competent ports (This isn't even Special Edition!) is an absolute disgrace. If I had been more informed waaaay back when I first made my Steam account, I would not have purchased this collection. Don't waste your time or money on this, find another way to play this game. I can't recommend this version of the game. This is the DOS port which is basicly a weird combantion of the SNES and Genesis versions Being that it is a child of the SNES and Genesis versions, it sadly takes after the SNES. Which is missing a level from the Genesis version. This version also does not have any of the levels from the special edition. If you are going to buy this game I recommend the special edition on Sega CD or the PC port (Which doesn't work on modern systems without mods) One thing to note, the Steam page uses screenshots from the Sega Genesis (or Sega CD) version, which is misrepresentative of the product that is being sold.

I thought "surely I can make this work," after reading all the negative reviews. Well. I can. However, it required a level of effort FAR beyond the reward. As others have said - you can just emulate a rom. I wanted to support this title in hopes that maybe we'd get more before everyone involved with the development was dead of natural causes. They've been teasing us for twenty something years now with "it's not a matter of if, but when." Well, I don't see any plans anywhere of ever getting another EWJ game. But to the point - this software is junk. I think all of us buying this is just enabling worthless grab-asses to get away with theft and possibly ensuring a new game will never be made. Why make a Shiny new game when you can get just as much money or more from a stale old turd?

One of the greatest platforming games of all time, Absolutely Rubbish Port warning you will fail jumps because of the botched physics making Jim worse to control in the air. Avoid this port, emulate the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Sega CD or Playstation 3 Versions of Earthworm Jim on your PC. Or if you want to play the game officially, buy the Windows 95 CD Version on Ebay or Amazon & see if your PC can run it.

This port LOOKS like the genesis version, it has the special edition music, but let me tell you, it is NEITHER of those things. It feels more like a flash remake of the genesis game than a proper port (it's still better than the infamous GBA port tho). Among the inaccuracies you will notice that the physics are nerfed/awkward, sometimes the SFX doesn't work, and the game becomes either too easy or too hard (especially the whip section in the second level). I would recommend you try and locate the ps3/360 version somehow, or find the PC version of special edition if you're looking for a proper port. But as this is right now, it's just not the game you think it is.
