To infinity, and beyond!
Earth Space Colonies is a space colony management game developed and published by Persona and Pixel Studio. The game itself is similar to Planetbase and Sol 0: Mars Colonization. At first glance Earth Space Colonies looked quite interesting to me since I haven’t really played a management game for quite a while, especially a space one. That said, I was somewhat drawn out due to the graphics because from the screenshots on the Steam Store page, it looked like a game for mobile devices but once I was inside the game, it wasn’t that bad and I grew fond of them after a while. Right now the point of the game is pretty simple, even though, from what I’ve played I still couldn’t figure out if what I’ve gone through was part of the tutorial or if there was no tutorial at all. What I can say is that you always have atleast one objective given to you by one or more of the game’s characters and that is one of things that interests me most in Earth Space Colonies. The fact that it has characters and a narrative driven story, which I assume is still being worked on. According to the developers, the game will have three different campaigns and I only played one of them. Pros:
The game runs pretty smooth, atleast for me. (over 200 FPS ingame with 970/ i5 3.2Ghz)
Nice music, and even though it gets repetitive, I still find myself enjoying it.
Huge variety of craftable items and resources
Sense of progression, not usually found in this type of games
Cons:

Buggy and clunky AI (technicians tend to get stuck on buildings or in thin air)
The UI is somewhat confusing and unintuitive at all, it could use a complete overhaul
The pace of the game tends to stagnate when you’re waiting for a research to complete or resources to be reproduced
Lack of radar/map which indicates damaged buildings
Overall thoughts After around four hours of gameplay, I still have mixed feelings about Earth Space Colonies but I can say for sure that the game has the potential to become a very good game. But, right now I feel like it still needs some work, optimizing the AI and polishing the interface, because I can imagine some people would get somewhat confused while playing it at the moment since it can be somewhat unintuitive. That said, I do think the game might be worth your time if you’re into space exploration or if you’re just a fan of management games in general with a little bit of micromanagement thrown into the mix . The three different campaigns make the overall game much more interesting Since each one of them focuses on different aspects, “Terraform Mars, defend Ceres, explore Ganymede.” Unlike other games from this genre, in Earth Space Colonies you always have some sort of guidance throughout the game, the objectives. These help you progress not only on game mechanics and unlocking new craftable items and resources but also allow you to progress through the story. So, if you like what I mentioned and if the game interests you, I say go for it. It seems the developers are currently working on the pathfinding AI and hopefully, soon enough, all campaigns will be complete.
Another, yet another, AKA the "Specialty Of Steam", scam "Let me try my hand at being a dev" game to draw little scam money off of after abndomenet. Yes. another developer seem to have abandoned yet another game on Steam...go figure...lol. Not worth the money for a game that is far from finished.
Does not run on Linux. See "Game freezes on start screen" thread in the discussion forums. The thread started in Aug 2017 with no response or resolution. Unfortunately, this game is entirely unplayable for me.
Clicking should not feel like clicking for clicking's sake, but in this game it does. It looks nice, I like the game's premise, but that's it. Tutorial is practically non-existent (nobody tells you that you have to CLICK on resources to produce them in the "Workshop", you have to figure it by yourself after CLICKING almost everything in the UI). After 5 buildings got depressurized I couldn't figure out what I have to do to fix this and that was enough CLICKING for me. And, yes, as almost all reviews before mine say, the game looks unfinished. I am disappointed. Get yourself Planetbase instead. https://store.steampowered.com/app/403190/
At this point the developers seem to have abandoned this game. Not worth the money for a game that is far from finished. I cannot endorse this game and until the developers come forward, I am of the mind that I deserve a full refund.
In Earth Space Colonies you will go into space, explore planets, build civilizations, and create an entire society of people living and working up there. Using the materials that you collect, you can build just about anything. Homes, military bases, hotels, and more. Create new and special items, too, that you can put to use in the game. Everything that you do has a clear purpose. There are three campaigns that have specific goals, and you have a rich story to follow as you play. Throughout the story and your exploration, you will build colonies on these worlds. You can do this on multiple worlds at the same time using a variety of buildings and items available to you. As you do research, you will unlock new structures that you can use for your colonies. Build it all, from hotels to terraformers, and have them help you build the perfect worlds. All in all Earth Space Colonies is a decent city builder. THE GOOD - Easy gameplay - Helpful tutorial - Fully voiced characters THE BAD - Clunky interface - Lack of depth
7/10
DISASTER | BAD | MEDIOCRE | OKAY | GOOD | GREAT | AMAZING | MASTERPIECE
Playing the campaign, tutorial, doing what they tell me to do. Then a big-butt asteroid comes in and destroys 75% of my base. No chance to rebuild (no materials for buildings, no buildings to craft materials).
Need to improve you tutorial bad ; Need a little more supplies while landing . I got up to the launch pad to trade but need to make fuel for rockets . I lack material to build lab . I can not find it . This where you clear tutorial would help for beginners . A little boring I thought . Not recommend for players .
I gave this game a fair go. Though it seems well developed and perfecly funcional, a well-finished product in all. The main problem I found is that the game lacks a deeper objective. You basically build things, in order to build other things. It pretty soon becomes boring, since you feel there is no more challenge other than just building everything the games has to offer and that's it. I am giving it a recommendation thumbs up, but it's important for the buyer to know what he is getting here.
I want to like this game, I really liked Planetbase and this is such a similar game. But I just can't get hooked to it. I slog through the first 5-10 minutes of the intro and have no interest in continuing. Plus the 3D "advisor" faces are super creepy looking. Like really bad uncanny valley animatronics
