e-Racer brought back to life !! I'ts so cool to play it again, after more that 20 years ! Hope that it will be updated, it woud be great

I have yet to unlock all races, I did unlock all tracks once via Amateur Championship, but I'll say this, while it has no widescreen support and controller support is mainly thanks to Steam Input, a game this cheap usually would trigger red flags, but it is an obscure racer from 2001. Does it stand out even in 2025? No! But what it is, it's perfectly cromulent, for a dirt price. Not sure if the cars have much of a different, but they seem to be mostly the same performance....which is good because in all races, you will NEVER be alone, unless you have skill issues, like the AI too, will. The physics are also kinda 2001 jank, but the fun level of jank. Online is no longer possible due to dead servers and what not, but even then, for a singleplayer experience, it more than gets the job done. This is pure arcade action at it's finest, especially when the controls of the car are so, so good. But if you remember how old games used to kick your ass, believe me. This is no different. You get this game, you better practice because AI doesn't seem so different between Amateur and Professional. They will wallop you, they'll chase you like sharks, they will be breathing down your neck, at almost all times. Get this game, even with the discount of 25% off, this is literally another piece of obscure media, that's actually done right.

For the context of 2001 this game isn't exactly impressive, specially considering the heavy calibre games the genre was putting out, but nonetheless I find it fun, [b][i]once you get the grasp of the handling model.[/i][/b] Can only be described as "sim-cade"-ish, because the cars lose grip very easily but the way the cars slip and slide makes drifting rewarding instead of being an active penalty or blatantly overpowered. Pairing that with the cars being very weighty and the steering being very smoothed out, by consequence the handling feels floaty or too inertia heavy, you have no ABS so your brakes lock up on straight lines and even on small taps and given that accelerating or braking only act as digital inputs, means you have to emphazise on learning proper braking zones and taking good lines, physics are also all over the place which translate to car touches spinning you out, or walls being inconsistent on how you bounce off of them either by accident or intentionally. Forces you to get good at both evading front line chaos and doing clean racing... [b]...but that's what makes it engaging.[/b] Specially when time trialling, nothing beats trying to get better at something challenging. As for content, low number of cars and all very generic non-trademark ones, they have notable differences but those differences are not listed in the car selection screen, you have to drive and feel them yourself. Some cars are better at certain tracks than others. And speaking of tracks, there's a good amount, specially with the DLC tracks which come bundled for free, sadly no reverse or mirrored variants which sucks a lot. Music might get repetitive, and so would the engine sound for that matter. I wouldn't pay the retail price at the time it came out (20 bucks), but for the current price listed as of the review (3 bucks) it's worth buying, specially to experience an older racer for when both computing and videogames were actively evolving and stuff like this was breaking new ground. Or if you like older games in general. [i]And I don't have nostalgia for this game, I didn't play it when I was younger.[/i] Everything I posted on the review was experienced for the first time. Should also be of note that I don't find the game rage inducing despite the difficulty, because it is difficult. [h2] A heads up:[/h2] The game is an unpatched 2001 executable with a DDrawCompat wrapper, meaning the game will open and run with no problems on modern systems, but has the compromise of having the maximum resolution of 1024x768. This can be fixed by either downloading patches on the Internet (check the PCGamingWiki page of the game), or patching it yourself in the registry editor to adjust to your screen size. This however, has the side effect of giving it mild stutters on anything higher than XGA resolution. It also supports framerates over 60 fps with no physics alterations and has VSync on by default meaning a higher refresh rate monitor will not screw you over or make you better.
