Dynasty Warrior definitely is an old franchise in the Hack & Slash genre. And I'm still amazed that in the eight installment (I'm referring to THIS game), the developer somehow still manage to improve the combat system, adding more complexity yet still managed to make it fairly easy to learn and hard to master (Classic). While at the same time making more playable character with their own unique weapon to the point that some of their weapons are just plain ridiculous. In the Complete Edition, pretty much is the combination of all the variation (Vanilla + Xtreme Legends) so it's pretty much the whole pack minus the extra DLC stuff (for the Die Hard Fans). this pc version is really emblematic of the era of pcs getting meh ports of japanese games. its not horrible but def has issues. no 1440p and 60 fps lock, i use lossless scaling app to get around that and that makes the game look kinda way better. no controller button prompts too. and no cloud saves. these issues have workarounds but yea. the actual game? a loooot of unique and rather interesting movesets, characters. graphics are rather ok. story idk i dont follow it much, its ok i guess. battles are on way easier side than dw 2-6. the normal/default difficulty is really breezy, can turn ur brain off and play perhaps, but there are also higher difficulties, as usual, a lot of them in fact and i expect higher ones to kick your ass so theres that potential. its an interesting game in the series, kinda the last one of its kind, in the mainline series. soooo... idk, if u r interested in these horde-slasher action games then this is an entry with a lot of content but idk if i would really reccomend it as something thats like the definite coolest option to play as a starting point. i think that older DWs, like 3-5, might be better if u want that old DW vibe. but this is good too. and available on steam :p warriors orochi 3 ultimate also might be a good pick (didnt play that yet) if u already like this series then u dont really need to read this review, u should check this game sooner or later lol. but for a newcomer, i legit think that DW 3-5 can be more hype inducing cuz these games feel bit more demanding and it makes battles feel grander in turn, in spite of technical limitations of even older games than this. but u kinda cant go wrong at the same time..... all fun games, if u r up for that vibe edit: im not sure abut the feeling of the attacks, i really might prefer some older musous compared to this one, when it comes to combat feel edit 2: and now im learning that the pc version has downgraded graphics and less included dlc than ps4 and possibly switch version... ouch. worse graphics might explain why the game feels off to me with its combat feedback. still a can be a fun game tho edit 3038: i got a bug that stops a mission from progressing and u need to restart it. ugh. more i think about this game the more i think about it rating more neutral. the gameplay also just isnt relly feeling that good.... but at the same time... it does feel good... what the fuc.............
Even with mods that make the game better, the inability to do basic things like PLAY COOP WITH PEOPLE is disgusting. Allowing gamepad layout customization but not being able to recognise other controllers is a mess, if you are trying to get this on steam to play it with your friends than just don't, it is not worth it in the slightest. The ps4 version is by far the better version, atleast with their remote party play it works.
I don't remember having any issue playing 11 years ago, but you have to jump through 40 hoops to get a controller to work properly and for whatever reason the developers decided that mouselook wasn't important in 2014.

Don't buy, controller support is ass or simply non-existent. Like who tf plays DW on keyboard??? Should have been the first thing checked on before porting. Money first, fixes never I guess... Best to go play something else that knows what a controller is, not a game trying to be League of Legends. Looked up and tried every method, It's like it worked for people at some point, then got patched out for some stupid reason.
