About
Dynamic Dungeons Editor is an easy to use local tabletop tool that was developed for game masters who use a TV or projector to map different premade backgrounds, videos, and images. Animations and particle effects, tokens, and audio files can be used to immerse your players. It's a player, not a 3d map-building software. Both the demo and the full version contain only a few simple battle grids, so you will need the videos or static battle maps of Dynamic Dungeons or other creators. The complete dynamic dungeons map collection is not included. The software is in constant development, future updates will be free.
Import Dynamic Dungeons maps or your own images or video files into the storyline and make a playlist, cover and reveal areas with the fog of war tool, apply custom size hex or quad grid overlay.
Playing on the TV screen is easier than you think. Simply lay flat your TV. You can protect the screen with a cheap plexiglass sheet, and use dry or wet-erase markers on it, so miniatures and dice rolls won't damage the surface of the Tv. You can also project down the video onto a physical table with an HD projector. Please note, that it's not a VTT for online gaming.

The Dynamic Dungeons Editor will help you to adjust the color of the videos and static maps, import png tokens to represent the players and their foes. You can play various ambient sounds and use particle effects to pimp up static or animated maps.
A free modular dungeon pack is available for this software containing more than 100 png props like corridors and various chambers to build your own dungeon.

(Although there are many customization options available and custom 2D maps can be created with the application, be aware that Dynamic Dungeons maps are not made with this app, but in various 3D software. You may want to try the demo version before you buy.)

I've used this product a lot, and and the UX is one of the best you can get for a in-person VTT. But t's unfortunately one of the most unstable, unreliable pieces of software I've ever used. Firstly, it chugs your computer (even when I have a RTX3050 + 32gb of ram + SSD). It's recommended you don't use lots of scenes to slow it down, but that actually means you can't use any more than 4-5 screens / images, or it'll chug everything. Running lots of small seperate load states would be ok, if they didn't take forever to open (which I don't want to do mid session). Good luck running a session with more than 1 location. Worse is it's reliability. Crashes aren't uncommon, and when they come, they can corrupt ALL your scenes. Multiple times I've had the software crash, restore the scene on relaunch, and every single loaded map / art is a black screen, erasing hours of work. Mid session too. Can't re-open them, they're ruined for good. Time to do all that prep again!
Honestly I can't really recommend the product at this point in time. I have used it and while it does work it is really lacking in features compared to other products. This is basically roll 20 before they added all the cool lighting and fog of war effects to it. Also as people have said the asset pack this come with is very scarce. And while you can import stuff it would be really nice if a steam product like this would use I don't know the steam workshop. Also while other software have adopted the universal vtt files to allow easy importing of maps with walls and other cool stuff built in this one does not. And lastly what really makes me not recommend this is your mileage may vary on if you will be able to actually use this for your games. about a year ago this just quit working for me. It will no longer open the second player screen for you to actually show to your players. I have retried with every update but it still doesn't work. So lots of work for nothing prepping for sessions. I honestly wouldn't recommend this after having it not work and now looking into other software that just has way more features than this for this price or $5 more.
I cannot recommend this product. It does nothing... Its insanely resource intensive when running, comes with none of the products listed. In order to get any of the 3D maps you must also sign up to the creators Patreon for a way over-priced monthly subscription. If this product contained those maps Id be the first tell suggest he tripple the price and it would be worth it. For What it costs, it does literally nothing. Save yourself the irritation. Do not buy this product. You can just play the maps over windows media player and drag/drop onto your horizontal flat TV instead.
Definitely try the free DEMO: While easy to use, this app is largely a "media player" for the (admittedly gorgeous) animated maps produced by the designer which you have to purchase separately via a Patreon subscription. This app is not meant to be a map-designing tool (if you already own something like Foundry, you don't need this app*). The designer offers some free maps available on their Patreon, but they are difficult to locate amidst the myriad of purchasable maps. It should be noted that there is a set of free assets that come with this app which includes dungeon sections that can be used to make one's own maps (as well as a smattering of backgrounds, sounds, particles, and a few other things), but they are limited in scope (i.e. no natural cave pieces nor sections of things common above ground like paths, trees, or campfires). *While I have not tried, it may be possible to "play" the designer's animated maps in other map display tools such as Foundry (I cite this app because I am most familiar with it); i.e. they may display these maps, but they might not play the animations (designer also provides some static map files). So you could conceivably subscribe to the designer's Patreon to access their maps without using this app.
Schade! Musst Ihr wissen!
Map assess suddenly disappear from the story grid, they show up as existing in the story grid, but once I click on them to open that map, it just loads a black screen, and nothing is listed in the asset view, or some times it will show a distorted view with the map so zoomed in and pixelated that it might as well not exist, and i have to find the map, and re-add it. add any sounds or effects that I wish to have, save the entire story bundle again. sure enough it works when I create the maps for my campaign I even test it with my tv, but then I try to open the maps for my players, and they all turn black stating the assets are missing. Why is there a 350 mb story save file if the assets are missing. It does not make any sense I can have the same story bundle saved twice, they are exactly the same, one fill work correctly while the other story bundle none of the maps or other assets will load correctly. Product support seems to be non existent, as the dev seems to care more about the dynamic battle maps, which I am a patron of because they are great. I just with there was a little more attention paid to the buggy program, or at least a better tutorial/instruction manual explaining why things work the way they do. when it works its simple and works well, its the extra steps of trying to get the maps to load correctly that makes me not want to recommend this as your VTT program.
Trash program. Does not display the secondary screen for players
Unfortunately, this is not what I thought it was. I wish I had read reviews before purchasing. No export feature is available for custom built maps: The editor does not allow you to export or save your own custom map designs as standalone files. It’s meant for presentation, not creation. I was hoping to use custom animated maps on my iPad in an app called Encounters+, but Dynamic Dungeons maps are not made with this app, but in various 3D software. Disappointing, realising this after purchase. Now if I want animated maps I have to pay for them on a Patreon-exclusive content library.
I am a pro DM hosting 14 campaigns per week and use this for all of them. It is not perfect (there are some bugs on mac) and your maps will break if you accidentally rename or change the location of your files, so it requires careful use. But if you can manage that it works very well.
First you have to buy it. That's okay. But they don't give you anything for free. So once you buy it, you have to buy the maps separately. Now I'm stuck with this trash and unless you want to spend, I don't know 8 hours building your own map. Good luck. I had a friend write me a better program that I can just upload maps. Don't waste your money on this trash. They don't give you anything
