Story Flavor:
The first sunrays were crawling hesitantly on the serrated city walls. The dark shroud of night was slowly withdrawing. The catapults had been shooting all night. Murk had managed to ward off two assaults from Wayward’s troops – one at the main gate and one by water, near Icewind Quay. Only when the morning light scattered the darkness did we see the price we had paid to survive that night: new cracks and holes in the thick city wall, a destroyed defensive tower, more homes reduced to rubble, and new fires throughout the city. At least a few dozen dead bodies laid scattered in the ashes, debris, and dust.
At nightfall, Wayward’s war drums began their rumble once again. The catapults were still silent, but they would undoubtedly start singing their deathly song soon. For nine days, Wayward’s hordes had sieged Murk, and every night the city walls groaned under the volleys of stones and fire hurled at them.

Dust and Salt: The Battle for Murk - самостоятельное дополнение к игре Dust and Salt от разработчика Prime Games, изданное ими же.
Dust and Salt: The Battle for Murk Dust and Salt: The Battle for Murk,
Dust and Salt: The Battle for Murk

[th]Genre[/th] Adventure + RPG

[th]Version[/th] 1.0.3

[th]Campaign[/th] Yes

[th]Game length[/th] 1-2 hours

[th]Difficulty modes[/th] 1

[th]Achievements[/th] easy to average

[th]Special[/th] Sequel to Dust and Salt

Story/Atmosphere Dust and Salt: The Battle for Murk starts there where Dust and Salt ends. so it's somehow a sequel to it. You are corporal Mandrake, a loyal watch guard who is patroling during the night as City of Murk is sieged by a Wayward army. Together with your guard friend you are stamble upon a high ranking conspiracy and trying to find out who is behind all that mess. In a Dust and Salt manner you have to visit different locations and you are under time pressure. On the way to solution of the conspiracy you need to make moral decisions and somehow also remember what you did before or what not :-) The atmosphere in Dust and Salt: The Battle for Murk is nice as it was already in Dust and Salt, which is also on steam btw, not only because of the harmonious drum music but also of the story itself.
And i think somehow there will be part 3.
Technical/Gameplay The difference to the 1st game is that you are not fighting anymore on a hex map but making choices in a story and progress in this way. It's a game about choices, not really a visual novel but a story told and you are in the middle of it. I experienced no crashes, only 1 bug which is explained on forum and as i know the dev from the past he will fix it, cause he is really caring about his games! In v1.0.4 the bug for 1 achievement was fixed, 100% perfect game is possible now! This rating system is my personal opinion and not to be intended to replace a professional rating system in any way! Rating (% out of 100% * X out of 10, sum of all as final rating X/10)

Story/Campaign (30%) [th]8[/th]

Gameplay/Controls (25%) [th]7[/th]

Graphics (20%) [th]7[/th]

Sound/Music (10%) [th]7[/th]

Replayability (10%) [th]7[/th]

Achievements (5%) [th]7[/th]

My personal rating is
7,2/10
Conclusion A story rich game which screams to be played several times. Play it if you want to find out what happened after the 1st part, Dust and Salt, or find out the other side of the coin. "The Dungeons of Despair really lived up to their name - I had never seen a more disheartening place." Another well-written and entertaining interactive novel from the creators of Dust and Salt; this time minus the tactical turn-based battles that were decent enough in that first game, but hardly the best thing about it. This is a much shorter outing in any case - about half the length of the first, and accordingly half the cost - so even those who loved the aforementioned battles shouldn't miss them TOO much. Anyone who enjoys a good text-based adventure, with a smattering of visuals to add spice, should be satisfied. The agency is quite varied, enabling multiple playthroughs: I myself managed to fail the first couple of times but emerged, erm, sort of "triumphant" on the third attempt (and in any case only managed to attain TWO Achievements out of a possible thirteen in the hour-plus I've put in thus far). There's also some spiffy stats for the roleplayers out there, and a small inventory...but the "RPG" elements are light at best. Again: it's all more than adequate, given that a single playthrough of the game should take you an hour, tops (especially given the time limit that looms ominously over events). Oh, and there's absolutely no need to have played Dust and Salt before you begin this; though the experience will of course be a tad richer if you have. But if you're on a bit of a budget and just want to test the series out, this is a strong enough place to start. And as I said in my review for the original, Game of Thrones fans should be in gritty High Fantasy heaven. It all ends, in any case, on a "To Be Continued" for those eager for more, but is by all means a satisfying enough story in its own right, even if your adventure begins and ends here. Verdict: 8/10. Set into the world of "Dust and Salt", "The Battle for Murk" turns the tables and lets us play as a watchman in the city of Murk which is under attack by our hero of the first game "Dust and Salt". This is a very interesting decision, indeed. The graphics, the music and the writing are good. The game itself feels quite different from the first "Dust and Salt". The previous game had an epic scope and developed through many years and many cities, while this one, on the contrary is situated in a limited space and time and we have only one night to save the city! Overall this is a nice addition to the world of "Dust and Salt" and all who like gamebooks or textual adventures should find this compelling.
One of the better gamebooks out there with very sweet UI, nice story and strong writing, which is probably the most important thing for me in a game like this. If you've read "Dust and Salt" already, you know what to expect. This one is simpler than its predecessor, gameplay-wise, since there are no tactical battles, but personally I enjoy this low-fantasy look at the same world more and the whole investigation part of it. As a downside, it could have been longer, but it definitely requires at least 2-3 replays to see everything interesting in (or even to successfully complete it), so you can definitely enjoy few hours in-game. Of course, if you do not enjoy reading and interactive fiction, this game is not for you, since this is exactly what it is.
Exactly what I expected: great writing with real choices! The pretty world map and the soundtrack add a layer of immersion into the story.
I downloaded the battle of Murk yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of the game, including graphics, music and overall feel. Another thing I liked about it a lot was the simplicity and speed of the game engine. The story is great as well and it will make you feel like a real life hero for saving your town and friends, but only if you are smart enough to succeed.
As a closed beta tester I think it's a nice medieval story with fantasy elements. Great for gamebook lovers.
Its a good short game. worth the full price to me.
