Just not fun, missing the sauce
10/10 ! Worth every $! Fluid movement system, combat is easy and fun, I wish there was a better waypoint system (you hit the bell and cogs show you a path or something). Overall VERY BEAUTIFUL game!

The good: - Nice visuals. - Simple but compelling story with some mysteries that I was looking forward to learning more about. - Some funny NPC bits here and there. - Decent combat once you unlock more moves. - Good, clean UI and controls. You never really have to access the menu during exploration or combat. - The game expects you to revisit stages once you unlock skills and attacks to look for collectibles, which I thought would be a chore, but actually enjoyed. The bad: - Combat is very boring for the first couple of hours. You're stuck with a three-step attack pattern, a dodge, an underwhelming cone-shaped damage skill and a dodge + attack combo that has some nice reach. Once you unlock an invulnerability + aoe damage skill and the heavy attack (with its set of combos), things start feeling better, but that's way too far into the game for my taste. - Combat is balanced entirely around dodging. Even random enemies can deal serious damage if you miss the dodges, and combat design is focused on throwing a bunch of different patterns at you at once, making for a hectic battle experience without much strategy beyond dodge and hit. - Deeply flawed platforming. I would frequently overshot or barely missed platforms, and you can only grab on the edge of specific ledges, which gets old very quick when you realize how often the game wants you to do platforming. - Boss fights seem to all have the same frustrating format. You fight regularly for a while, then the boss becomes invulnerable and starts charging an attack while you have to complete a platforming section on a timer. If you fail to complete it in time, the boss starts dealing constant damage over time while still being invulnerable. You're expected to keep repeating the platforming part until you do it or die from the damage over time. This happens about 3 times per fight, and the damage causes you to go through a short animation at every tick that makes it harder to get the jumps right, to the point where it's better to just retry the boss from scratch.
Unapologetic ps2 platformer first with a dash of z-targetting / soulslike flask-heal juggling combat, then spiced up with bosses that have entire platforming dodge phases like an n64/ps1 era game. There's also a little pinch of metroidvania in the sense that you are told to retread old ground when you've finished an area boss and there are clearly marked upgrade paths/things you can't break from the start. Recommended difficulty is fair, you just need to get used to the fact that maybe you don't want to lock on all the time, and remember dodgeball. dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge Hard mode is basically double damage from what the enemies do on normal and their attack speed is relentless. It's very much a "do master clockwork after a first playthrough" so don't go into this thinking you'll breeze through that either.
Honestly kinda underwhelming and janky as hell nostalgia bait
Truly a loveletter to the PS2 3D platformer era. But still original enough to be it's own thing. This game really hits you right in the nostalgia and it's truly a delight to play. Couldn't have wished for more.
Absolutely worth playing. If you enjoy Jak n Dexter with kingdom hearts mixed with a little bit of other games from the ps2 era. Here you go.
