Reviews
While I think this game is good enough for a recommendation, its fun but its lacking.
Summery
I understand where most of the reviews are coming from, comparing it to J&D, R&C, In principle it follows a lot of what makes them games great, but it doesn't do anywhere near enough to reach the same heights. The best for me are the environments and the platforming. For the price I think its worth it.
The Good
1. The movement is snappy and the general feel of traversing the levels is great. 2. The Art, Both the environments and the characters are all very well made, both stunning and neither feel out of place.
The Average
1. While contradictory to my previous statement and actual level design can sometime be lacking, I often find myself getting slightly lost (its a open-linear game so you only progress in one direction) 2. The combat, This one boarders on the bad but I'd like to hold of on criticising this aspect until I have finished the game.
The Bad
1. The Dialogue in this game may be some of the cringiest and what feel like the minimum consideration of a dialogue I've ever experienced. The voice acting does not help. Why does he talk like a reddit mod? 2. The story, I like the concept but I fear writing is holding it back. Again this is something I'm going to hold off criticising until I've complete the game.
Overall
I think this is a very solid attempt at a first game from Weird Beluga, and I think if they were to make a sequel or even a new IP in the same genre they'd have the opportunity to learn from this and make an absolute banger.

They totally nailed the "Hidden PS2 Gem Vibe" with this game. If this came out in 2002, I def would've bought it with my pocket money and would still tell people to play it because its so satisfying to play. The only thing I didnt liked was the combat outside of the boss fights. Later in the game I decided to put it back on normal because it was really getting frustrating and annoying with some enemies, but thats really the only "bad" thing I have to say about this game, otherwise its amazing. The story was nothing groundbreaking yet it kept me going and even made me shed a tear at the end. So well done Developer. The platforming is beyond satisfying. It just works and feels smooth, they knew how to design a great platforming experience without getting bored. Looking for the collectiables is also very fun and made me enjoy the platforming even more, will def do the 100% in this game. I highly recommend it for everyone who enjoys Jax & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, etc.
I've been disappointed with a lot of games I've looked forward to recently- This definitely was not one of them though! Duskfade was much better than expected and for anyone who loves the Kingdom Hearts series for the gameplay, music and overall feeling will also love this game. You can feel the love, care and attention put into every part of Duskfade and HIGHLY recommend it to folx that want a hit of nostalgia but also want a new experience. Despite loving the game as much as I do, there are several things that could really help with accessibility and QOL.

A toggleable map or mini map. I did find myself- even late game- getting lost very easily.
Remappable buttons for both keyboard and controller please!
Zirian's jumping height felt a bit inconsistent at times meaning that I missed quite a few jumps that I should have made.
An option to make some of the flashing images less intense.
An option to make the landing highlight underneath Zirian more visible if the player needs.
Slight spoiler territory

Maybe an option to continue the final fight from the start of the second half. Kind of like how KH has the Retry, Continue and Load options.

Similar to the above, maybe a checkpoint in the final platforming section

Lastly, thank you for this wonderful game, devs!!
Good platformer
Amazing game it reminds me of so many ps1 and ps2 classic platformers GIVE THIS GAME A TRY you wont regret it!
I enjoy going back to a time when games were just fun and developers/publishers didnt try to keep me constantly engaged with live service elements. THIS game harkens back that time. 10/10
Fun 3D platformer! Great movement, Extremely responsive controls, fun platforming, rewarding exploration, and beautiful world design (plus the game just looks great in general), only thing lacking is the combat is not the most in depth but the difficulty keeps it interesting for the games runtime.
