Welcome to the wonderland, magical girl. Kewl, what do we do here? You kill other magical girls... because reasons. Slightly different from the Alice in Wonderland I remember, I guess the entry to this world is not following the rabbit, but taking your life (I think?). Granted decapitation is not too far away from the stabby stabby and religious undertones, give or take. Strangely the game looks very inviting with the visuals and chill soundtrack, but the subjects are potentially sensitive, not that I personally take the fiction seriously. Be aware of suicide themes and criticism of religion. I assume there is a bit of a social commentary on the religion not being all that inclusive, but honestly I was here for the pretty colors and cute art panels, most of the human condition and philosophy went over my head. For a free visual novel it's put together pretty decently, takes about 40 minutes with multiple endings (so closer to a few hours to fully explore), and I thought the artwork was very enjoyable. The only thing I think you could have done better is maybe having more panels showing the locations, you have an interesting world but you don't really get a good look at it because the characters are blocking most of the panels. Maybe a few landscape shots, or a few empty rooms of the places to set the tone would be nice. I don't like when VN games linger too long on dialogue panels, which is probably 85% of the game, but you had some close character panels to break it here and there. I liked the characters and the dialogue for the most part, it's a little heavy on the religious deconstruction and other cerebral topics, you have to read between the lines to understand it, or at least make an educated guess. I don't want to get too deep into my theories because it might be a spoiler, but I think the general theme of the game was being brought down by expectations of the religion or society and finding your way through to the other side, perhaps changing your perspective and what you thought was the standard, possibly by finding common ground with like-minded individuals. I didn't fully understand why the connection between the queens was integral to the fabric of the world and other characters that were within it, maybe someone smarter can explain it.
Pros:
(+) Has about 90 minutes of content between the endings, not bad for a free VN, relatively good amount of unique panels (again, by free standards at least) (+) I thought the idea for the world was interesting, granted it might trigger some people, but I don't take it too seriously personally. Maybe the writing was a little too brainy all the time, could have been a little more casual here and there, but I liked some parts of the narrative and dialogue (+) Not too many art panels, but I think the art direction overall was good, and it nicely contrasted a dark narrative with cheerful vibes (+) Some custom UI art
Feedback:
World Building/Art panels: - I just thought the game needed a few panels to set the themes for the locations, you trying to describe this world with opposing sides, but we don't get a good look at any of the places, almost every shot is the character dialogue panels or close shots, needed a few location panels for thematic reasons. Overall Thoughts: 7/10 While the game is getting a bit of hate from some curators for having LGBTQ characters, I prefer to focus on the quality of the experience, and I don't get offended by fictional stories. I thought it was an interesting and slightly edgy narrative with dark undertones about religion, inclusion, and social expectations (maybe?). A little strange overall with something to think about, but not badly made, better than many free VN games out there, probably like a $5 game as it is. i've been looking forward to this game ever since i saw it in a desperate search for magical girl games, and IT WAS AMAZING?????? (note: i've seen 3 endings, so not necessarily all of them!! these were (HEAVY SPOILERS HERE):
bad end (the two drinking tea), bad end (abriel kills afollyon), and 'end' (azazel decides to end the cycle)
) - and for anyone wondering, getting my first ending probably took a little over an hour!! and there's a skip button, history button, and accessibility options!! ☆*: .。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆ when i originally sat down to play it, i assumed i would enjoy it, but i had no idea it would be so much fun!!!! genuinely i loved EVERYTHING about it - the music was incredibly fitting and lovely to listen to, the artstyle is SO cute and whimsical, which means that when darker things happen, it does a wonderful job of juxtaposing it, and also it really caught me off-guard each time!! the character design was BEAUTIFUL
and foreshadows things perfectly
, the characters were AMAZINGLY written and the twist at the end was brilliant!!!!! plus we LOVE the queer representation everywhere in this game hehehe <33333 what this game deserves the most love for, at least imo (and not ignoring all the other forms of art that make this VN brilliant!!!!), is the writing. this is only spoiler tagged for the sake of people who haven't read the TWs, and i won't spoil the ending/topic in question, so you can read on provided you've read the TW list!
i've always been an atheist, and i love how this game portrays religious trauma and religion in general!! the final moral of the game was a really interesting one, and as someone who fully respects and loves religious people, but is pretty cynical of the institute and oppression religion can cause as a whole (especially as a queer person), i thought the way the game addressed the issue it raised was really well-done and nuanced. and the metaphors and symbolism were amazing!!!! plus i learned some new stuff about religions so that's always awesome!!!!! <3333
for those who like choices in their VNs, you get to make one each chapter! there's
5
chapters in total, so i think that's a nice balance for a short VN!! ^w^ genuinely definitely give this one a whirl!!!! it's honestly shocking in how great it is - i didn't read the devlogs and only went in with the info i had from the trailer, so it was really nice that the game was so cool in the end!!!! you can tell how much passion the dev(s) put into this game, so if you like VNs and yuri and doomed people then this is 100% the game for you!!!!! short and sweet and angsty and KKAJHAKJHKJHKJHKJH IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! thank you so much to the devs for creating this and good luck with any future creations!!!!! ヾ(≧▽≦*)o
A lovely, small story of familiar elements. Stumbled on the true ending on the first go! I would have *loved* to play the original design plan of POV switch and several➿loops. ❤️🩹
I saw this game for a split second in the background of a YouTube video, and the look of it plus the name have compelled me to play it. Absolute chance encounter, but I'm glad it happened!! I have played through the whole game, at least I think so, and it was great!! I'm assuming that the good ending is the one where
Azazel leaves, and Abriel and Afollyon kiss and turn into souls
?? If not, HELP lol, cause I feel like I've ran down every possibility. Like, my gallery is all filled out, so I'm guessing I've done everything I could? A way to view your ending completion progress would be great, I'd love if that was added :)
I also could not save Dantaliar to save my lifeeee so maybe that's where my problem is but I feel like I've tried everything, and the game pretty much directly says she lived on borrowed time, but still...

(I also have not figured out the significance of numbers...)
Anyway, I've thoroughly enjoyed the angle under which this game tackles faith;
I have never played a game where a protagonist is questioning things so much and so upfront. Of course, it's also due to them being a product of someone indoctrinated into a cult, so it's not a critique of religion itself per se,
which imo is good, cause too much grandstanding would've been to the game's detriment. All the character designs are really cute too! My favourite has got to be Azazel, but Marblight is a close second. Also, W pronoun city, I was pleasantly surprised with the range. The music's great too, I like the one that plays in confrontations the most, and I wish the names of the tracks were listed somewhere instead of them being collectively noted down as free music. This game has also reminded me of a manga that I've read, Heroines Game, which is about girls being incarnated into fairytale characters and forced to fight to the death. Nothing too special of a manga, but it is kinda entertaining and has great art. I was wondering if it was an inspiration while I was playing. Some gripes I've had is that
Afollyon feels, perhaps, too inconsistent in his character depending on if you spare Dantaliar or not. Like, I cannot believe that's the same person. Also, likeee, I get it that Tragedia is supposed to be independent, but they really don't get to make much of a move no matter what you talk with them about, which kinda feels like pointless choices and a bit of a waste (aside from that ending where she gets Adonai to kill all of the girls, but that comes from a branch where the choice is kinda made for you (the choice being Afollyon killing Dantaliar)).
Finally, I gotta say.... The line
"More like a blight upon this world, just as you are. A pitiful liar with a folly of an existence, doomed to oblivion" made me laugh 😭 heavy "Freedom's just a penumbra phantasm for big shots about the world revolving" vibes LOL.
Fr tho, the writing in this is pretty good in terms of the prose being striking; I've taken several screenshots just to save certain lines. Overall, pretty good visual novel!! Glad to have stumbled upon it, and much love to the developer <3
Personally liked the story, the main story does have darker themes but the true ending is happier end.
This game was definitely different from my usual fare. I felt that there were some interesting themes touched on by the story, but may not have been fully explored in the shorter plot. I thought the writing read well at times, but there were some choices of words and phrasing that felt a bit repetitive. Fairly fun to play through with a friend.
For free it's such a steal. Unlocked all gallery images so I've probably seen most of it, and I don't really have complaints. Pretty and at least somewhat meaningful, though your mileage may vary.
