duplicado is a simple avocado-based sliding game with only randomly generated levels and no keyboard movement. it made a pretty bad first impression, but now settings are accessible during the mandatory but non-replayable multi-level tutorial, audio toggles got replaced with volume sliders, there are hotkeys and they even added unlimited undo. a resizable windowed mode was there from the start. 4 difficulty levels to generate levels in, the hardest was added after release and all but the first have to be unlocked by grinding the previous ones. it's a bit tiresome, but most puzzlers are trivial at the beginning. barely any mechanics, unfortunately. multiple seeds to move around independently until they land on a soil tile, water to stop seeds and turn them into trees, and half an avocado to stop and hold seeds or cover water. you can also make a whole avocado if there's a seed inside. lackluster to say the least. really nice audiovisual presentation and the whole thing is pretty relaxing, no timer, move limit, par or move counter, and there's even a skip puzzle option. I didn't find the level generator particularly inspired, didn't run into any decent puzzles even on the then-hardest difficulty, but the latest addition generates seed-only levels, no avocados to assist, which should provide more challenge. puzzle share is also possible, copy seed to clipboard, send it to others, and there are a few trickier seeds to try in the forum too. as I said, it's not a hugely complex or particularly interesting affair, and I still think it'd work better as a browser game to waste a few minutes on, but with a bit of extra work it turned into a decent thing of its own and it might get more stuff later. also, it costs the same on mobile, which should go without saying but it's rarely the case.
Duplicado is a peaceful and relaxing puzzle game very similar to the Quell series. The Quell games have sliding puzzles in which the objective is to move a ball in a way that it reaches a certain tile so that it picks up a pearl on the way, with the restriction that once a direction is chosen, the ball will stop moving into that direction only when it encounters an obstacle (a wall). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2953682843 Duplicado borrows this sliding mechanic but adds a few new unique ones that reshape the gameplay a bit. The objective here is to move an avocado seed (the “ball”) until it reaches a plot of land or water, allowing it to transform into a tree, which will serve as a wall tile / obstacle. Additionally, the movement of an avocado core can be stopped not only by the border of the level but also by an avocado shell that follows the same sliding mechanic as the seed. However, it will stop the seed by containing it in that tile. While in Quell games, there is only one ball per level, Duplicado’s levels can contain multiple avocado seeds and, respectively, tiles that they should be planted in. With each planted seed, the configuration of the level changes; thus, not only does the sequence of moves matter, but also the order in which you chose to plant them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2953682889 There are four sequentially unlocked difficulty options: accessing the “Casual” (average) difficulty mode can be done only after you solve 25 puzzles in ”Beginner” mode, and the “Challenge” + “Seeds Only” difficulty modes are available only after you solve 30 Casual levels. A skip option is available for any levels that you find too difficult to solve. Duplicado’s levels are procedurally generated. There’s also a feature to share a level or play a certain level based on a shared code as long as you have already unlocked its corresponding difficulty mode. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2953682952 Duplicado has great audio and visual presentation and a very decent mix of easy and challenging puzzles. Some of the levels will be brain-wrecking yet deeply rewarding, while others will feel like a stroll in the park. It’s overall an easy-to-pick-up puzzle game with a great Zen-like atmosphere and very pleasant gameplay. On top of all the factors already mentioned, the infinite replayability value of the randomly generated levels that keeps the gameplay always fresh makes it well worth the asking price of $3. I'm always amazed when someone can blend a puzzle game with procedural generation. The two brothers have done an admiral job in creating this clever conundrum. A meditative and tranquil experience.
Really solid puzzle game. There are a few tutorial levels to get you used to puzzle mechanics, and then the rest is procedurally generated. Feels like the difficulty goes up and down a bit, where some puzzles were trivially easy, and then other seemingly simple ones had me pulling my hair out, but one benefit of the procedural generation is that you will never run out of puzzles. Would recommend the devs add a set of "curated" levels to the game, of specific puzzles they came across that seemed like a special challenge more than the rest, or maybe even a minimum move counter to see if the player can find the best solution.
Great laid back puzzle game overall. Soothing music, fabulous and smooth gameplay and really nice unique style. Would love to see more form this studio. Solid 10/10 in this category
Great job, guys. Very good art, smooth transitions, and challenging puzzles! I was very impressed by the quality of Duplicado, and I think it's so cool that you guys were able to create something like this for many people to enjoy. I will be recommending the game to any of my friends who are willing to listen to me and I'm looking forward to future game releases!
It's a relaxing and nice game. Very well polished and nice graphics. The value you get for the money is pretty good! My only critique is that you can clearly feel that it is a ported mobile game. It would be great to have controller support and Steam achievements!
Just when I thought all games of this kind have been invented, I came across this piece of refreshment. It's amazing how simple things can add fun. The biggest surprise is the procedurally generated puzzles which gives certainly value for your money. There are three difficulty levels and you have to play a couple of puzzles to unlock the next level. The easy and middle levels are rather easy but the hard levels are quite fun. You can share the ID of a puzzle you really liked or found challenging. I do hope they add a kind of favorite list. The bird/nature sound didn't annoy me a single moment and the graphics are simple yet satisfying. Go plant those trees!
Mechanics are easy to grasp with the help of the short tutorial, then you are ready for the procedural puzzles. Even if the levels difficulty varies quite a lot between each level, on average the difficulty curve is great. There are multiple solutions to each puzzle and when you juggle two shells around to solve a puzzle you feel very smart. I have yet to got stuck on a single puzzle for more than 5 minutes and I've never had to skip one, overall great expecience. May get a bit boring after a few hours but for 3€ it doesn't matter. Also, I love the visuals, the music and the sound effects. It makes for a very chill atmosphere.
Un très bon petit jeu de réflexion ! Tout est généré procéduralement et ça fonctionne, vraiment bravo ! Très sympa !
