Currently replaying after optimisation issue was fixed in last update.
SYNOPSIS:

[th]ASSESSMENT:[/th]

Dungeon Legends 2: Tales of Light and Shadow (DL2) is an unsophisticated dungeon-crawler of mobile gaming origins, with agreeable looking graphics. Limited melee combat compliments a decent magic system providing fluid FPS styled gameplay. A shallow story matches very basic RPG mechanics and a rudimentary inventory full of clutter, but not much carry capacity from floor to floor. In essence DL2 could be a decent entry-level game, but the experience it delivers is currently blighted. The attempt to introduce a chat-bot interface to replace a menu-driven narrative, sometimes does not register quest completions. Quest items can disappear from the inventory screen. While many QoL issues and bugs needs attention before it can be seen as an acceptable release. Until these faults have been addressed it remains a title that is FLAWED.

STATUS: Shouldn't have been released in this state. Developer has appeared on Steam forums and seems to be working on the game albeit slowly

APPEAL: A decent low-end RPG, grid-based dungeon-crawler with some inviting exploration awaits if nothing else

VALUE: Seems a fair price for the advertised x12 floors of content. However, its hard to be sure as I never got to the end

Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.
More info below.... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3154873930
OBSERVATIONS:
► QUESTS are very simple and unfortunately buggy at this moment. Its possible to complete a quest one time and then be unable to find or receive items from a quest-giver in a replay. Inventory bugs can also see vital items disappear when collecting loot. There are not enough quests per floor. A lack of hand-holding can make quest objectives seem unclear. ► EXPLORATION is inviting but becomes monotonous as so many containers are filled with mundane loot. A number of SECRET AREAS are present throughout some levels, though these fairly easy to find, they can be missed in the dark. Cobweb effects are pretty good, especially as they can be burnt a torch to clear a path. ► x12 FLOORS/LEVELS are quite large, with the singular objective of finding a way down to the next floor. They are mostly filled with empty containers or with useless loot. Plus enemies, locks that open doors doors, levers that open gates, quest-giving NPCs, stone monoliths, secret areas and light sources. The environment is less uniform than when first played and more puzzles and traps are badly needed. Levels are self-contained. ► COMBAT is passable though it can feel rigid and formulaic due to limited attack options. Melee attacks are restricted to just one type. There are no options to defend or parry. offensive magic spells, but no ranged weapons. ► 700x INVENTORY mostly consists of junk, lacks stacking of mundane items and carry-space runs out of very fast. Loot seems determined at the start of a new game. ► The use of a text-parsing CHAT-BOT for dialogue seems innovative, but unfortunately does not always work for NPC quest-givers. Its quite possible that even though quest completion dialogue is shown, vital items are not taken or given, resulting in soft-locks and the inability to progress. Furthermore, its possible that versions using non-English translations do not work to some degree. ► AUTOMAP is basic, looks unfinished and missing the use of textures. The map is drawn beyond the tile the player inhabits and thus reveals too much potential info. It does show NPCs, entrances/exits and doors/gates. Switches, chests, torch sources and other points of interest are not shown. Nor is there any facility to add notes or icons manually. ► x30 ENEMIES are limited, but most are drawn to a high definition with decent animations for some. Most dead enemies do not drop decent loot. The AI is basic. ► AUDIOVISUALS are a mixed bag. The dungeon environment has a great look. Its a shame that the crisp HD artwork isn't used more than just the initial cutscenes and loading screens. On the 2nd floor, an annoying humming sound can be heard droning in the background that is sure to hurt sensitive ears. ► The GUI is functional, but burdened by the use of ill-fitting fonts and fixed auxiliary screens resulting in some tool-tips being cut off-screen. Storage windows still appear unbidden in the auto-map screen. CONTROLS are functional, but the use of RMB and LMB for transferring items across inventory or containers is inconsistent. There is no journal to keep track of quests. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3154877157
COMPLEXITY:
🔶 ACCESSIBILITY - There is no tutorial, but a controls overlay pops up at the very beginning. Additionally a key/control screen can be accessed at any time in game. 🔶 DIFFICULTY - On Normal, fights start off easy, but become harder with progression. Especially quest related encounters. This is tempered as confrontations tend to be 1v1. Permanently regenerating mana/health helps keep the challenge nominal. 🔶 BALANCE - On Normal instantaneous healing and health regeneration make combat feel gamey and unbalanced in favour of the player. 🔶 PACING - Given limited progress to floor 4, the exploration is well-paced. Though starting from scratch without decent equipment seems a waste of time given that it looks like there are only x12 floors. 🔶 SCALING - Does a good job of introducing nice equipment and spells with progression as stronger foes are introduced with each new level. At least to floor 4.
STAYING POWER:
🟨 REPLAY VALUE- Quests are scripted and a lack of dynamic elements lessen the challenge on subsequent playthroughs. 🟨 LONGEVITY - Apart from replaying the game on harder difficulties or self-conceived speed-runs, there is little in the way of keeping the player engaged past completion. Especially given there are no achievements.
PRODUCTION:
🟣 QUALITY - There is a laundry list of problems. Many of them minor. Some are medium. A few are critical. Overall the collective number of issues affect immersion and the entirety of experience. A lot of polish is needed. 🟣 STABILITY - No crashes, but progression can be stopped due to soft-locks caused by bugs. The chat-bot can sometimes not parse quest completion properly. Vital items can disappear from the inventory. 🟣 STEAM - Screenshot capture only. No achievements, cloud saving or controller support. 🟣 OPTIMISATION - FPS of 58-60 experienced. Severe drop of FPS on floor 4 has been fixed.
This review is provided by The Gilded Maw - A Dungeon Crawling steam group, and this video game was provided for free through the Steam Curator program.

Synopsis
Dungeon Legends 2 : Tale of Light and Shadow is a PC port of a mobile first-person, real-time, grid/tile-based dungeon-rpg (DRPG) dungeon crawler developed by Łukasz Radziejewicz and Dreaming Wizard Games over the course of seven years, and is a sequel to Dungeon Legends, which was only available on android and iOS devices. While the game is essentially releasing on all three platforms at the same time, the current state appears as a port, as many of the UI elements are positioned and operate in a mobile fashion. The game utilizes an AI chat bot for dialog.
Mercy Killing
Introduction Normally I consider doing a full play-through of a game, or if the steam statistics can't display this, I will have at least played the game in the past before passing judgement. I am making an exception, because this game is not ready for sale. It has a plethora of odd design decisions and missing features. I managed to make it to the second floor, and just don't want to continue. It's possible that it gets better, but the problems with the controls, the UI, and generally terrible user experience (UX) make it a trial. You use WASD to move, but to side step, you use [Z] and [C]. Instead of the usual keys, [Q] is relegated to opening the character sheet, while [E] does nothing. While I'd prefer conventional controls out the gate, I don't mind rebind them, unfortunately you can't. You can't change graphical settings to any meaningful degree beyond removing the drunken walking animation that constitutes a head bob. If you turn off head bobbing, you begin to notice that the movement animation is busted, because the character's weapons seem to shimmer. I think its motion blur, but I also have a few theories as to why, but without seeing the guts of the game, I'm only speculating. My best guess, if it isn't an aggressive motion blur, as to why the environment and weapon models shimmer is because the camera is actively fighting the movement, which happens in unity sometimes depending on how the camera is set up on the character model. I hope you enjoyed this small snippet of my thoughts, the rest will be made into a list, because there is just too many issues to talk about.

Movement is sluggish
Broken camera
Combat lacks impact
UI on the main screen doesn't fall into place properly or in sequence
You can access developer stash of powerful weapons and quest items by spamming the shields in the escape menu
The AI chat bot is not a good substitute for a text parser, and apparently doesn't work well in non-english
Sometimes hitting keys opens and closes menus, sometimes it doesn't
No rebinding keys
No graphical settings
Awful headbobbing that needs to be off by default and re-implemented
The map is terribly implemented and gives too much information. Instead of a tile at a time, it's a radius, removing any potential secret areas
Looking with [RMB] and clicking on items with [LMB] feels awful. If you let go of [RMB] the camera snaps back
You can infinitely queue movement, should limit it to current movement and next movement, causes problems when you want to readjust and can't because the game has the commands set in stone, even if you press [D] 50 times in a row
The UI is clearly designed with a portrait view in mind, and looks terrible in landscape
You can consume items in your inventory like quest items, and I'm not sure where they go
Item description boxes clip off the screen instead of occupying screen-space properly
Hitting [ESC] doesn't close the options menu
The environments are all hallways, that often end in dead ends with boxes filled with nothing, and it's very easy to get lost because it lacks any variety in layout. Most rooms and hallways look identical
The screen shakes constantly with droning ambience in the background. It's sort of like Legend of Grimrock, but instead of randomly happening every 30 or so minutes, it's every 10 or so seconds
The AI dialog is not particularly interesting
The viewport of how the character views the game is designed antithetically with how the game wants you to interact with it. The viewing angle needs to be changed so more of the floor below and in front of the player is visible, so they don't have to rely on moving the camera constantly to interact with everything that isn't directly center screen
Plenty of clashing elements from monster models to weapon models to item icons
If there are nay puzzles, I've yet to see them
Enemies will immediately engage in trying to attack you from behind gates and doors, because their raycasts ignore doors, or possibly trigger fields
All enemies so far felt the same
Conventional wisdom with this genre isn't present, such as using mouse controls to manipulate the map aren't here

Dungeon Crawling Core Value
*This segment is being retired as I've been reworking it for awhile, and isn't ready, but felt like I needed to get this quick review out.
Conclusion
This game is not ready for release. It is an alpha stage project. If it had released into early access, it may have become something better down the line with updates. Instead, this is the full released product. I always check out titles I've reviewed in the past if they receive enough updates to fix the issues with the game, but I feel like this game will require an additional seven years to get to a 1.0 state. It's bland, busted in many ways, and rather unremarkable. It is not worth buying at this time.
Brak podstawowych funkcji, konfigurowania sterowania, ustawien glosnosci, jasnosci itd. Polska wersja jezykowa to kpina. Interfejs, staty wogole nie przetlumaczone. Produkt to jakas niedokonczona alfa... Niestety poszedl refund :(
The game is indeed old school dungeon crawler with a modern skin. It plays nicely and the atmosphere is very good. The dungeon is fun to explore. The combat takes some gettin' used to but it works. Just hate missin' attacks. I also like that it features voice over work. I have yet to get a taste of the magic. In due time. Very good stuff for 10 bucks. DC/RPG + graphics + mechanics = Retro adventure with focus on exploration. Feels a bit like old school D&D. Customize, level and equip hero. Search areas for loot and monsters.
Follow our curator for similar games
A fun game, it could do with a bit more variety in barrels and chests but it's not bad.
