I started playing RPGs online with my friends during quarantine, and Dudes on a Map has been the gateway to making that possible! It's an efficient gaming program that has all the essential bells and whistles needed for DnD, Pathfinder, and more. It's easy for a first-time player to figure out, and has plenty of features to keep the DM happy as well. The DM can upload a custom map, control the fog of war, and control the enemy tokens, etc. The players can use their own images for player tokens, and there's an in-game initiative system and dice roller. Everyone can even "draw" on the map in real time! As a final bonus, the developer is very good about responding to feedback regarding any bugs that may crop up. Dudes has a low skill curve that makes it fun for everyone to learn to use, and keeps the technical aspect of RPGs as simple as if you were playing at a table in real life. This program might be useful to anyone wanting to try out RPGs but who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a more complicated program such as Foundry. As a player, having a simpler way to play Pathfinder with friends makes it easy to get immersed in each session. That's why I'll keep coming back to Dudes. 10/10, would recommend.

This has helped save my D&D games. When covid hit we tired a number of different platforms and didn't get on with any of them. I was fortunate enough to get access whilst in development for me and my party and we play every 2 weeks. Its so easy to use, both as a player and as a DM. I'd be lost without this!!
Roll20 killer. 10/10 this is the greatest thing since D&D. Thank you to all involved.

There are other tools for online D&D, but what I've been wanting is simple: A map... with dudes on it. It's very convenient that this tool does exactly that. Prior to using this tool, I'd been using Google Sheets, coloring in the little squares to make a map, and then plopping images onto it. All my players would move them around and it worked pretty well. That said, there wasn't any easy way to use pre-made maps. Dudes on a spreadsheet. With DoaM:VGP, I can import a map, use the grid calibration tool, create some tokens and I'm off to the races. Everything I had before, but with the tools I wanted built in. Figuring out the blast radius of a fireball is as simple as drawing a circle. Maybe there's better tools out there if you want to be a professional DM or something, but if you've got a bunch of pals and just want to know whether or not you're next to the ogre that's swinging a club around, this tool does what you need.
I am a very new player to RPG's like D&D and Pathfinder in general, but I have missed being able to play games like this with friends with all of the shut downs that have happened due to COVID. However, once we were able to continue to play on Dudes on a Map it has given us a great way to continue adventuring with friends over this interface! A great option that I really enjoy about this system is that it is straightforward and easy to use with very little instruction as a player. I was able to make my player token and go! A part of using this rather than playing on tabletop that I think works better virtually is the fog of war mechanic that the DM has control over, and it really makes things more interesting in my opinion to not have a clear view of both the space and enemies that could be all around you! I have only had a great time with using this during my virtual RPG sessions, and the old saying that "less is more" is really true with this system. It is just like doing a session together on a table top without the confusing extras that some other programs have. 10/10!!!
I'm Commander NPC, and this is my favorite virtual tabletop on the internet.
The above is not an exaggeration. I've been running online RPG sessions of many different systems, in various toolsets, for something like two decades now. I've gone from Maptools to Dungeon Revealer to Roll20 to Astral to Fantasy Grounds and back and forth and never really felt like any of them satisfied me. They were either too arcane in their design to figure out, too feature-bloated to use quickly, too complicated to get working, or any combination thereof. Dudes On A Map does exactly what I need it to do: it shows a map with fog, lets multiple people online moves dudes on said map, and provides a perfectly functional and customizable dice and initiative system to cover the vast majority of game system needs currently out there. And it does all of this now, without complication, in a free Early Access. Holy crap. The best part? No need for a subscription or a third-party central server connection! The GM hosts the game right there on their own computer, and the players connect directly. All your files are saved on your own machines, and you can work on building out your maps and tokens entirely offline. Huzzah! I'm super excited to see how this tool evolves. But to be perfectly honest, it's almost perfect as it already is.
More of a program then a game. Its good. For a free program it checks every box it needs. You dont need to spend 300+ dollars and maybe get your account stolen like on Roll 20 and dont need to spend 2 months on a map like talespire. Bugs are uncommon but present, expected as the team is 1 guy but still frustrating at times. TLDR: Good free program to add a little magic to your tabletop games
Even in the early state that its in, Dudes is the most intuitive Virtual table top that I have used. In conjunction with Dungeon Alchemist you can go from an idea to running your game in 30 minutes. It just works. (the grid wizard is aptly named because it is magical). i appreciate the work that has been done on this software so far and hope to see it get the recognition that it deserves in the future.
