It's the successor to A Bastard's Tale, and it's exactly what you can expect if you know that game already: slow-paced battles where you have to learn how an enemy initiates a certain attack, so as to parry it and counter-attack. It's very rewarding but also very punishing. Even a device obtained at the very beginning, which works as a portable checkpoint, must be placed carefully, lest it be destroyed along with any chance of resurrecting from a failure. It's also amazing to look at. Seriously, when mentioning examples of great pixel art from games of the last decade, one would hardly think of Driven Out, and yet it deserves all the praise, even more as there is a notable variety of enemies for such a short game (it seems longer only because it kicks the player's ass all the time), like giant beetles, a goat turned into a monster, monkeys of various sizes, and a few surprises at the end. Not many will be able to enjoy it in full but I can't deny the "craftsmanship" poured into it. So unfortunate they've gone from this to Hammer of Virtue, which looks like the developers were replaced by their evil twins.
it is a really fun short game. pixel art is great. animations are great. combat is hard to master but really rewarding when you do. there are a lot of bosses and all of them feels different. the enemies are interesting and not repeating themselves. there are some bad sides to the game as well. unfortunately i did encounter few bugs not game breaking or visual bugs mostly enemy ai acting weird and bosses not being where they supposed to be but it happened a few times it was not a big problem but annoying. 1 or 2 bosses and encounters designs feels off even after 2nd playthrough there are some enemies that feels unnecessarily strong like only way to beat is luck. also the game doesn't have a tutorial for controls i had to look at it in options which is really a rooky mistake i think the game is hard but it is fun i am more of a casual gamer and it never made me throw away my computer in anger but never easy enough to bored me to close the game. well designed when you look at the whole game. i think this game is a bit of a hidden gem. overall i would recommend it. i had really fun 13 hours experience there are some annoying parts but it is worth to give it a try.
