Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my initial impressions review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/5EmP8s36FlA Down Fast VR is a buggy, janky, Early Access game with basic visuals & sounds. However, it's also a lot of fun to play if you can handle the speed & jumps. It has some absolutely crazy bike trails that nobody in real life could possibly handle, especially without the best healthcare on standby in case of emergencies. Good thing you're in VR and can go full speed ahead and try out that trick that has almost no chance of working. Yeah, this game can be frustrating to play, but it also brought me some of the coolest moments in VR. This game is definitely geared for VR veterans who can handle the movement & say hell yeah as they live on the edge of sanity. I did experience several bugs. The biggest one is that the game would reset (restart the race) without me wanting to. Also, the menu UI stopped responding. I also got stuck in the terrain & fell down below the ground. By default, the steering is not sensitive enough. The controls are not intuitive at all and it feels like you're fighting them most of the time. I think that's where the devs time should go ... perfecting these controls. I would do away with how wheelies are currently done, by moving your hands away from your body. I was doing wheelies too many times when I didn't want to do one (I was trying to turn). Also, your avatar hands are away from the handlebar (not actually holding the bar) & that just makes it feel unnatural. The visuals & sounds could also be better, but I would focus mostly on the controls if I were the dev. Also fixing the bugs. This game is obviously not for everyone. This is Early Access and it's a buggy game. However, if you're looking for that adrenaline rush in VR, you have found it here. I myself also like some action on my fullys in real life, this has made me look forward to a mountain bike game for virtual reality for a long time and the patience for the reward is worth it! Watch a snippet of gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt6xlzU8kKg (Gameplay in this review is from just before release and can only be better today) In the game you will be able to choose between a few locations, each with about five races with other players' ghosts that you can do, but each location offers enough to determine more routes on your own initiative, it is a bit similar to riding a MTB game 'Lonely Mountains: Downhill' but with slightly more deliberate wooden ramps for extra stunts to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuSqNuHJmBQ Down Fast VR has motion controls, fortunately, and these motion controls, together with the head movements with which you can lie along in the turns, are very clever to imitate the maneuvers on a mountain bike. People who regularly ride off road with a mountain bike will understand what I mean and this already gives you a big step forward to master the controls and feel the downhill kick! Here you can find a playlist with different locations & routes: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGsOL4SfL-mMJXLQAsMhmdBVe9LeAzkZc
nice... really nice you have to move your hands like you do a real bicycle I am thinking of moding the controllers to a bike handle
the most unoptimised game ever for vr
doodie poo
I will give it the thumbs up for now, only just though as it still needs a lot of polishing up to the graphics and steering needs work, I can see that it could be very good fun though if this work is put into it... and please get rid of the screen going dark when you get too close to anything please devs. Edit - Actually this game is trash, it gets stuck on the loading screen constantly, the bike is virtually impossible to turn most of the time if you do manage to get it to load, the game looks like it is totally abandoned and will probably never get any more updates... I suggest you go buy DownhillVR that one works and is good.
Down Fast VR is an Early Access VR mountain biking game for virtual reality. Compete against players from all around the world and explore the mountain with three different bikes and stunts like whips, 360s, frontflips, and backflips. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Has Instructions. Has 2 steam achievements. Warning: This game will cause motion sickness. Maybe buy this if you wanna ride mountain bikes in VR and have an iron stomach. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. 9 months of silence. The game is abandoned. At this state it is not worth any money.
a bit janky early access gem. this game hit a soft spot from my dirt bike riding times. pros main game mechanics are solid. music is energizing cons still a lot of work for a single dev. good luck.
Can't even play the game it's that buggy...
