Before I say anything, I'll try to make this review as spoiler free as I can, whilst also saying what I liked/didn't like about this game. First things first, you play as an agent for the Doorways agency (hence the name), trying to solve past murder cases, inside of the killers twisted heads. After that, you are dropped into what can be considered the darkest ♥♥♥♥♥♥' hallway ever. No seriously, this game is really really f'in dark, even with the brightness cranked up all the way, you can barely see what's in front of you, making the puzzles in the first chapter way harder than they needed to be. Also worth mentioning that there are no jumpscares in this game, no seriously, none at all, which (in my humble opinion) make any game way scarier, since it relies more on building up suspense and atmosphere than flashing a jpeg in yer face.(yeah, I'm looking at you FNaF) Sadly, this game is rather short, with me only clocking in at only 1.7 hours, and that is due to the fact that (despite there being 4 killers in total, with one chapter/killer) this game only covers the first two cases, whilst the other two are separated into two other games (those being The Underworld and Holy Mountains of Flesh), so take that into consideration on whether or not you want to play this. Last note: The 'game being too dark' completely disappears in chapter two. And that's pretty much it. I really enjoyed this, and I hope that you'll enjoy it just like I did.

As with many game there was a mehhh ... Its flawed but I had generally a good time playing. Nice creepy puzzle solving. Flaws: no new game - trivial but having to delete the file by hand plus disable the steam cloud is ridiculous and if you started from a stage it didn't remember what you had from a previous stage. Too dark in many places - oh atmosphere - but it was inconsistent and ridiculous. Crashed several times. Finally, some of the timing oriented/trap puzzles were inconsistent.
Probably the most agonizing game, I've played....
!
*sigh* Ah, Doorways. (Reviewing the entire 4 chapters / 3 games at once; no spoilers). Rarely if ever have I encountered a game that had me both very intrigued AND utterly annoyed, often changing between the two in a matter of minutes, while sadly often remaining on the "annoyed" part longer. It literally goes from "Man this is so cool" to "What in the actual ****, who the **** designed this and where can I go to have them banned from ever making video games again?" (Okay, maybe a bit harsh, but frustration levels can get quite high when playing these.) The good: - The one thing that all games nail is the immersion. Sound design (including the voice actor), overall aesthetics, level design, all creative / 3D artist work, genuinely outstanding stuff here. That is, if you turn up your gamma before playing, because everything is ridiculously dark on default, especially in the first game. The bad: - Story-wise it's confusing at best. While I get that they needed an excuse to create bizarre dark fantasy settings, just calling it "Going into the mind of serial killers" and then never explaining anything about it is really detrimental to the great atmosphere the game does manage to create. - Poor sense of progression and feedback to the player. This becomes especially egregious when you're on the lookout for the collectible relics. These often spawn at places you've already been to, with absolutely zero indication that something has even changed. Even "better", some become quickly inaccessible if you accidentally progress beyond certain points, requiring you to restart the entire game because there's no manual saves and chapter selection doesn't save overall collectibles progress. - The puzzles, including enemy / boss encounters. While some are intuitive, many get (the wrong kind of) confusing or frustrating. Doesn't help that some of them just keep reoccurring, sometimes basically unaltered. Shout out to the end of "The Underworld", which I'm pretty sure is actually violating the Geneva Conventions. So where's the thumbs up coming from? If you find this on a steep discount and if you're a sucker for creepy indie horror games with a unique feel and atmosphere, you could give this a go. Just be prepared for some frustration, which will likely occur at some point. Note for Linux / Steam Deck players: While there are native versions for all 3 parts, most achievements are broken and will not unlock. Thankfully plays very well with Proton.
yeah its from 2013 but its still crap
Мне лично очень нравится. Советую!
Not a bad little game when taking into account the small dev and the fact is quite old at this point. This is chapter 1 and 2 out of 4. I seen a lot of the reviews were critical of the game being too dark and quite clunky. Both valid points. The darkness is a bit excessive but I was able to find my way around with relative ease. Chapter 1 is the worst offender for this. Chapter 2 was certainly creepier and the better of the 2. The story begins to take shape a little here. Puzzles are simple and the voice acting is decent as is the writing. The story seems a bit strange overall so I'm not 100% on board with buying chapters 3 and 4. Will certainly wait for them to go on sale. The movement in the game is quite floaty which is another issue i had. Overall I'd give this maximum 6/10 when taking into consideration how old the title is.
