I expected a normal visual novel and got something completely different. The game is good at making you comfortable before it starts messing with you. Most horror games try too hard to scare you. This one just lets things feel wrong until you can't ignore it anymore. I respect how committed it is to the idea.

I started Doki Doki Literature Club thinking I knew exactly what kind of game it was. I couldn't have been more wrong. The less you know going in, the better, so I'll keep this spoiler-free. What looks like a simple visual novel slowly turns into something I genuinely wasn't expecting. The writing does an incredible job of making you care about the characters before everything starts to... change. It's one of the few games that made me stop playing for a minute just to process what had happened. The soundtrack, the atmosphere, and the way the game plays with your expectations all come together to create an experience that's hard to forget. This isn't the kind of game I'd recommend because it's fun. I'd recommend it because it's memorable. Years from now, I probably won't remember every visual novel I've played. I'll remember this one. Recommended.

Absolutely love this game. Very well made and well written. I don't think a game affected me as much as this one. I would recommend this to everyone. BUT, if you're easily disturbed, find suicide a sensitive topic, or suffering from depression/anxiety, don't play this game, as the game gets quite dark and gory.
