Distant is pretty a pretty simple bare-bone experience; interactive art attempting to describe Alzheimer / dementia. It's not particularly good or game-polished, but as a free, short interactive experience about a difficult to represent and important topic, I'm giving it a thumbs up.
A very short but vivid "beginners guide" to understanding and supporting a person with developing dementia (paranoia, disorientation, and the need for enhanced safety within their home). And sadly all too familiar to those of us who have seen this for real - my Grandmother, formerly the most gentle, friendly and welcoming person you could hope to meet, was both terrified of, and vocally and physically vicious with relatives and professional carers alike for the last year of her life. Rest peacefully, Nan.

I think it's nice to have games like this to try and explain feelings we hope to never experience. To have a loved one with Alzheimers is to lose them slowly. You end up realizing they stopped existing long before you can never see them again. Art is means of communication. A way to communicate our emotions and perceptions, beyond what language can provide. To me, something like this constitutes art even if it wasn't the most amazing thing I've ever played. I missed one of the achievements because the game crashed. My tier list for levels is as follows: Paranoia > Safety > Disorientation Might speed run this game
Cool 10-minute experience that manages to balance the gamification of the perspective of a person with Alzheimer's disease with the deference and respect it demands. Distant clearly comes from a place of love and understanding, despite the scenarios being dramatised for the game, the lessons it teaches are nonetheless helpful and straight to the point. The game seeks to bring an understanding and empathy for victims of a disease which especially needs it, as it often maligns people from their loved ones due to the irregular behaviour they exhibit. Managing this while still remaining efficient and entertaining is a great achievement! I only wish there were more depth/examples. This format has great potential for edutainment style games that could have real applications for people coping with a relative experiencing any particular debilitating disease.

Short game that educated me about how life for a person with Alzheimer's disease looks like. Highly recommend!!
Barely a game, more informative about Alzheimer. It's ok for free.
Amazing game! Memory is the first thing that people tend to think of when discussing Alzheimer's disease, but this game covers so much more - fear, disorientation, confusion. Really good insight into what people feel and go through when struggling with this disease.
