About
Coded Black is a bold, narrative-driven experience that immerses players in the hidden and haunting histories of anti-Blackness in the US and UK.
This is an experience designed to be difficult – mentally and emotionally. Drawing from primary sources, historical records and scholarly analysis, Coded Black offers a journey through past atrocities and moments of triumph.

Explore two distinct, atmospheric scenes – a plantation and a modern 20th-century city – each filled with real historical documents and audio visual storytelling. With a structure that surfaces different content in each run, Coded Black is a narrative crafted for both personal reflection and educational engagement.

Amidst the darkness, Coded Black also shines. Players can find glowing “balls of light” that reveal stories of Black achievement, resilience, and humanity – offering powerful moments of reflection and hope.
Blurring the lines between game and museum exhibit, this is an experience about witnessing, understanding and feeling the weight of history through an interactive lens.

This is not a game, it is just propaganda. The only good thing about it is that it's coded so bad it is almost unplayable.
"story-rich" just read a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ history book instead of playing this ♥♥♥♥.

too depressing
History can be uncomfortable. Especially if you are sitting in the seat of privilege. In fact History should make you uncomfortable lest we are doomed to repeat it. Nearly 4 hours it took to go and listen and also hear every single bit of information offered up on this unpalatable platter that leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you come from a place of privilege, knowing that this isn't your story and never would be because of the colour of your skin. That should not scare you from educating yourself but should inspire you to make sure that we we learn about is never repeated. I could not wrench myself away from this experience that made me cry and hurt deeply as a human. There is so much brokenness in our history and even more recently and i can only wish that through togetherness we can learn from our past and not let hatred fill us up over a single genetic difference, the colour of your skin. This educational tool can help you hear black voices in a way that gives you the time and space to think about and rest on the information being shown. This is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about black history. Mad props to the devs!
Look, you can feel however you want to about the actual "gameplay" of this game. For all intents and purposes, it is a walking simulator, so if you don't like those, this may not be your bag. BUT what is presented here is historical and/or based on history. So if you believe it's "too depressing" or "propaganda," then so was history. Everyone should play this game.
ABD ve İngiltere'deki bastırılmış anti-Siyahilik tarihlerini inceleyen, hikaye odaklı bir sosyal adalet oyunu. Hikaye anlatımı ve tarihi kanıtlar aracılığıyla ırksal adaletsizlikle yüzleşin ve Siyahların dayanıklılığını ve insanlığını gösteren anları keşfedin.
I struggled with how to create this review. I found the historical documentation informative and effective but just typing that feels sterile after experiencing the game. I found this to be profoundly impactful and incredibly moving. Highly recommend.
Very thought provoking!
