Discrepant is a psychological adventure game set in a dystopic sci-fi world that is slowly unwinding. It's dark, deadly, and unsettling. It explores the meaning of existence and purpose, challenges reality and emotional connection through a complex plot, and comes with a twist around every corner.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. Copies below reflect the player base, not paid sales.

I know it's probably an early review but i'm thralled with this game. It took me by surprise from my first time playing. I've really been waiting to be able to play it after seeing it be talked about by Ross at accursed farms. The devs seem really invested and excited about this game and it shows alot of promise

Before I start, I think I should mention that I was part of the testing-team, just for clarification. I have to say that the game is really good for what it is, sure the visuals may not be the best you've ever seen but the story and gameplay make more than up for it, I recommend it if you enjoy a good story. After testing, we did in fact not get to keep the game, but nonetheless I literally just bought it, which goes to show how much I enjoyed it. :)
A promising sci-fi adventure game with a lot of neat ideas that plays like an Alpha build If the developer addresses the game's issues, I could eventually give this a thumbs up. Discrepant a mashup of a lot things. At its heart, it's a sci-fi adventure game with some FPS elements thrown in. Players navigate the game world, collect items, solve puzzles, and try to unravel the mystery of the story. It has a lot of ambitious ideas, but at times it feels like it's not playing its cards close enough to its vest. It reveals when it should hide, and it is obscure when it needs to be clear. It's a bit of a jumble really. The graphics are somewhat dated (the flashlight is particularly troubling) and the controls can be very cumbersome. And some of the storytelling feels like it's off-the-mark. But there's a lot of promise here, and since the game is in Early Access I don't want to be too harsh on it. I think if the developer can get the kinks worked out, and polish the story a bit, it could turn into a really great indie title. One final point: Buyers should beware that if they purchase the game in its current state, they're basically paying to Beta Test it. It plays more like an Alpha build than anything. There are a lot of bugs and issues, and that's really the only reason I don't recommend it at this time. The developer seems keen to fix bugs and address player concerns however. He was quite responsive to my input while I was reviewing the game for SaveOrQuit.com. First let me clarify that I don't recommend buying this game in its present state. It's very clunky and awkward and buggy. I bought it on sale for less than a buck so I can't really complain. I'm giving the game a thumbs up because I want to encourage the devs to finish this. I think the game has atmosphere and a great premise and I'd like to actually be able to, you know, PLAY this at some point. Right now though... well, here's a rundown of my first 30 minutes with the game: - After a brief intro, the game starts & immediately there are plenty of tutorial messages with lots of text to read. - It's super dark, I need a flashlight to get around, but the flashlight has limited batteries and I can't find others. - Literally the first room I walk into has a large moving force field that damages me when I walk through it. I find a side-room in the dark (remember, I'm trying to save battery on my flashlight) where I won't get damaged, but as the door closes it somehow pushes me out of the room and I get damaged by the force field. - I go back in the side room and pick up a backpack and a clipboard. No idea what I'll need them for. Go out, get damaged by the force field again, but I manage to find a thing on the wall to disable it. - Where to next? I find a weird map thing on the floor but it's useless. I'm standing next to an elevator but the doors won't open. However I can jump in over the railing and press the button. Nothing's happening. - Wait, something IS happening. Turns out I'm not actually IN the elevator at all! The elevator is on the upper floor and is coming down on top of me. I run and jump out of the way just in time to not get squished. Who the hell places an elevator call button IN THE ELEVATOR SHAFT? - I go to the upper floor and get out of the elevator. (here the door does open, guess the one below was bugged?) Immediately the ship starts shaking and I start taking damage apparently out of nowhere. This happens every few seconds on this floor. I walk around sparingly using my flashlight and find the cryo control room. The door is stuck. - Another quest marker sends me off to find something heavy to bust the door open with. It looks like it's on the bottom floor. I go back down to the bottom floor but I can't get to the object. I go back up. It kinda seems like I have to go through a detached floor panel. The moment I step on it I die instantly. OK I guess I'm replaying the tutorial... - Except apparently I'm not. You only get one shot to beat the tutorial. What? - After a loading screen, the game displays something like an old-school game manual. Walls of text. It's telling me I'm playing some guy named Sebastian. Wait, I saw myself when I died and I was a woman. Whatever, I'm not reading all of this. Click "Return to Game" - Now another cutscene plays, except it's no longer in space. The camera slowly pans around to show me a weird purplish planet with a bunch of watchtowers all around and some trees. It's still dark. There are a couple of bodies on the ground with glowing eyes. There's a person sitting on a grave or something looking out into the distance. Okay... when does the game start? The cutscene plays in loops. I click the mouse buttons, press space, enter, escape... nothing works. I have to hit ALT-F4 to exit the game. So yeah. Not exactly a great first time user experience. I really hope they fix the game and make it playable because I can tell something's there. The atmosphere and the story seem like something I'd like.
Recommended with caveats. This game is truly special. It's also completely maddening and riddled with bugs. There is an interesting narrative here, and for the most part it's presented well. Some of the voice acted segments can be a bit hamfisted, but they usually seem to occur after the player has already had the opportunity to piece things together for themselves. The atmosphere is pretty good; a slow build of tension in the environment and an active timer really bring the experience together (when the timer is working). It's the bugs that bring the experience down as a whole; if you are not willing to restart multiple times due to bugs or dead ends from sparse checkpoints, sometimes having to go back entire levels, and put up with a lot of poor quality of life bugs or development decisions like a lack of manual saves, I cannot recommend this title to you. But for people willing to struggle past the bugs and general jank, the underlying experience is compelling and absolutely worth the price of admission. I really hope the developers can polish this up so I can recommend it to everyone, but if they can't I will settle for the 12 levels no matter how jank they are. I hope more people find this game; it deserves to be played. It's just too bad that most players it has found are turned away early by all the bugs, missing out on the cool stuff.
This game is brilliant at storytelling and creating atmosphere. The background music is creepy and perfectly blends in with the Alien theme. In the beginning I was lost and didn't really know what's happening, but I later came to realise the fascination of this storyline as it starts to unfold. So basicly you have to find the underlying clues in many details to really sink in the awesomenesss of this myterious game. It really is a great experience for somebody like me who is fond of horror and science fiction but also a very challenging one because the gameplay require a certain amount of thinking.

Very buggy. The first thing I noticed was that the moment you use Sprint, it endlessly drains your stamina so that you start walking slowly and breathing heavily. Initially I thought maybe it was related to me being on a spaceship and that I had to find an oxygen mask or something, but nope, it's just a glitch (and one that apparently was promised a fix months ago which still hasn't shown up). The camera and your arms in first person like to randomly bob back and forth, which is annoying and possibly nauseating for some people. There's also a fair bit of walking around bumping into physics objects: open doors will block you, and you can only interact with them to close them from one side. It kind of feels like a GMod project sometimes. The interface is also a hassle to use: an opened backpack/objectives menu can't be closed with Escape, so you have to cycle through the I/O/Tab keys to close them. They also stay open when you actually press Escape, which opens the options menu and leaves everything in place, so there's text overlaid on text and it's hard to read. The graphics are actually not bad, but there's one part at the start of the game with a mirror where it's just a 2D copy of the bathroom you're in. The main character moves around it, and has some basic animations, but the bathroom itself doesn't move. It really kind of took me out of it, and I'm not sure why it was there; just have a broken mirror or a blurred texture instead. I finally got stuck on the first non-tutorial level because I couldn't find the plug to put into the generator. It's odd because the game constantly flashes objective markers at you. The first thing to do is get a backpack. There are two, and even after you've picked one up it keeps pointing out the other one. Unequip one and it just floats there in midair, which is weird given all the other physics objects. The unfortunate part is the story and atmosphere was actually quite intriguing. I did not buy this in Early Access, and it's still not very playable in its current state. I suspect someone had a grand vision and put a lot of work into it, but just gave up partway through or ran out of money, and I suspect it's just been abandoned outright.
