The world has gone mad for Disco Samurai, a game set in the cyberpunk metaverse known as Disco. Everyone plays it — your neighbor, your boss and probably even your least favorite politician. Not only are people buying virtual real estate, cars and designer clothes, they’re even insuring them! Sounds crazy? You tell me — since the game’s release, the world’s crime rate dropped by over 77%! Why rot in jail for petty crimes, when in Disco you can become a notorious bounty hunter without facing any consequences?
The story follows Fox, a rebellious student who wants to make a name for herself in the world of architecture and fine arts. Since virtual vandalism and spilling pixel blood are more her style than attending lectures, the world of Disco is about to learn a new definition of "brutalism".

If Sekiro and Necrodancer had a baby, they would call it Disco Samurai. Great game for parry enjoyers!
A great rhythm game, and the music stays in my head for hours. After playing Hi-Fi Rush, I needed a game like this, and I wasn't disappointed! I highly recommend it to everyone.
Very solid game, lots to love and it's actually quite difficult! Story is pretty good and really picks up. The combat feels great once you get the flow of things and add in all the powers. Big recommend if you like action rhythm games like Necrodancer and Hi-Fi Rush etc.
I love playstyle of this game. You have to play aggressive, always try to deal damage, and pick out the most dangerous enemy at that time. Skill and environment also give this you a bunch of different ways to clear each level. But when you met final boss(phase 2). Forget everything I just said, You have to fight 5v1 in very small area while boss with unbreakable shield throw bomb at you, and other 4 clone try to hit you. At this point all you can do is dodge all the time and pray that bomb with hit each enemy until they die. I know this game have many level that are unfair, but most the time when you can change your items and tactics, it's still fun even thought it's very difficult. Maybe they just want me to kick each clone out of the floor, but when I try it doesn't seem to work. When you met final boss I honestly recommend to just drop difficulty to easy. It will be good for your health.
fun as hell. more of a rhythm game than an action game. it's very hard, but the levels are short and you get your HP refilled after every screen so it's not very punishing to fail.
There's been a drought for rhythm action games after the spectacular Hi-Fi Rush, and we're currently waiting for Dead As Disco. This new game caught my eye as soon as it came out, and it was a blast. The intensity of the action combat to the beat of the music really becomes a dance, as you learn each enemies' moveset, how to defend against them and when to find attack openings or ways to take advantage of your moves for the kill. The game wasn't very long at about 4 and a half hours, but the tight pacing and more than fair price is great for the level of quality you get. If you like rhythm games at all I really recommend this. Be warned however it's quite a brutal game, with some level sections being tough as nails and the final boss taking about 20 minutes of retries before I could beat them. Don't be afraid to make option changes or go down to easy if you're struggling, as this is a tough game of reaction time and learning patterns for even veteran rhythm players. While I did love the game, I have some critiques that could be implemented in patches or a possible sequel if we have hopefully see another game like this: The game has moves to either throw environmental items or kick enemies into environmental hazards, which is more than encouraged to combat the high difficulty level and take any advantage you can get. The game however doesn't seem to have any targeting leniency which makes this difficult in the heat of battle. I had multiple times I tried to kick an enemy into a hazard or throw something at them, only to be slightly off in aiming and completely whiff and lose flow. This could be frustrating at times when some level sections were tough enough as it is without this getting in the way. While the game does have some unlockable equipment for modifiers or boosting abilities, level sections vary in if they allow any room to experiment or if you get shoved into a small room with five enemies and need to follow a script of moves to get by. While this does play into the dance-feel of the game, I wish there was more freedom at times in being able to open enemies for aggressive moves or experiment with attacks, rather than play defense 90% of the time. This does tie into the Sekiro-parry feel and the tight design keeps it fun, but sometimes you feel like you'll be stuck to a script to survive a level, and the sometimes frustrating challenges to unlock equipment pieces doesn't help with this. But despite getting frustrated at a few points, I really had a blast with this and enjoyed it. I hope we see more from this developer and we see an expanded sequel that fleshes out more of the great concepts here.
In my play time, I made it to chapter 3 of 5 before I had enough. I played on normal mode. So, this game is trying to be Sekiro with a beat. The problem is, it completely misses the mark of what makes parries feel good to preform to begin with, at least to me. In this game, parrying does nothing but reduce the opponents guard meter, and after it is zero, they are stunned. Then, and ONLY then can you do damage. So what's the problem? Well, a parry, to me, is countering an attack and then slashing at the thing that dared to try and hit me. That's not happening here. Here, I'm just playing Simon Says. Yes, I have a pistol that does more damage than my weak basic attack, but in order to use it I have to attack enemies... which I can't do unless they are stunned. I also have a kick to lower their guard meter, but with 3+ enemies shooting and stabbing, using the kick becomes a waste of time since only SOME objects even give you the interaction. Oh, and the kick uses the same meter your pistol does, by the way. Anyways, after stunning an enemy, you get to beat them up for a few seconds, before you go back to playing Simon Says. There is very little player agency and control. You just respond by tapping to that enemies specific pattern for a while, get some hits in, rinse, repeat. Without the ability to be the aggressor, I found myself bored, refunded the game and wrote this review. TLDR: No player agency. You just tap to what is in front of you without ever being in control, because if you don't tap along, you'll lose.
