Would I pay the asking price for this game? Yes. Will I invest the time necessary to see everything it has to offer? I'm uncertain at this point. There are two main activities in this game: tower defence combat and shopping for upgrades in town. Of these two activities, contrary to what I would expect, it is the town that receives the most frequent and exciting changes as you play. I'm intrigued to see what I unlock after each combat level I clear. However, the core gameplay loop remains remarkably static and slow to change. I just passed level 15 and still have yet to unlock the game's speed modifier, only have 3 units to work with, and 3 enemies to fight (as well as the end of level boss, who so far has been the same each level). I imagine there are many more unit types to unlock and more complex enemies to think around later in the game, but so far meaningful changes have arrived in a trickle, rather than a stream. Again, what gives me reassurance that my time invested on the battlefield may well be rewarded are the changes the town constantly experiences. Maybe I only have 3 units, but by golly it's fun to sink gold into upgrading them, or unlocking another row to deploy them within battle, or buy a spell to smite those fecking bats. I found myself playing for these unlocks and it's these that will likely compel me to return to the game. I just hope the next 5 levels require a different strategy to the last 5, because as much as my lizard brain likes the unlocks, the rest of it needs something new to react to to keep me engaged.
I like 8 bit games, rpg and tower defense, so, I bought this game. It seem that it's development was treated with as much care as a used up crash dummy. It's bad, for several reasons. Concept: The game is suposed to be a plant v/s zombies kind of game, but it does not have any kind of personality, it is slow in both gameplay, stage transitions, and with little gameplay variety. It is very repetitive and the options for game development, are so limited that is seems like an unfinished game. Lore: As an RPG, it has absolutely nothing. There is a city, but people have nothing about themselves, nor is the world or place developed, I don't know what the city is called nor know nothing about it's people, making you not only not care, but the only bits of lore, are to force an explanation as to why the game limits your game play early on. Pacing: The game is slow. I don't mean mean in game play, but as a game. It has a speed un option up to 3x while playing, but it works as a stage by stage tower defense and the city only works as a very boring and cumbersome menu screen between stages that does nothing for the story, but make you wonder if it was made on purpose to make the game slower so it seem longer. Gameplay: It is boring as hell. It has a very slow development of options to play, that are not satisfying, and so limited that make you wonder if this is a full game. Enemies just attack from right to left in a line... It grows old very fast. Sound efects: They are depressing. The sounds of things being hit, remind you to cheat cpu games from the 90's, and it does not bring nostalgia, but make you wonder if there were no other better free sound assest available. It's horrible. Gamedevs: If you are reading this. I have to ask you... ¿do you believe that this game is fun? If your goal was to make a cheap, fast, easy game, with keyword that would make some sucker like me buy it, so you would have money to make another real game... then, well, I hope you make a good game in the future. On the otherhand, if you thought this was a good game; some suggestions... - Improve the sound effects. - Give people dialogs. - Make the character able to interact with things, like the cat. - Get some subplots happening. - Give this game a story, not an event. Like, who is the protagonist, why does he fight, does he have stakes in defending the city, why can't he run away to a better game?, why are the vampires risking their lives going after the city, where do vampires come from?. What is the city about, where is the city, why should I want to defend them?. Anyway, good luck.
