Great game so far but it does feel like a weaker entry. The writing seems very vanilla. Still a fun one.
Very fun for the first playthrough, but there's not much reason to keep playing after that, unless you want to see all the death scenes. The stealth sections get aggravatingly repetitive. Don't buy at full price.
[CONTAINS SPOILERS, WATCH OUT] For the first time may I say Ive not only played a game to unwind and have fun but also Ive played a game which makes you reflect about your life. I was given the impression that throughout the game, and following each characters background histories (Samantha and her guilt for not saving those people in the boat, Eisele sending those clones to Tau Ceti F, Cernan not having been happy during his life, Anders not feeling to fit in in the group...) it makes you rethink about how you are the one to change what youve been through and therefore you should not stick to the past mistakes youve made. 'What you are is what you have been', 'what you will be is what you do now' & 'Never forget why you started'. It also shows the essence of having a respectful rapport. Im a suppermassive games saga passionate, though its the first time a game made such an exhilarating impression on me. Deffinitely many people could get a learning about this masterpiece, therefore Id recommend it 100% and if possible Id put it at the top of your bucket list of Dark Pictures Anthology's games. Thank you so much SMG, wait was worth the value!!!
One of my favorites of the Dark Pictures games. I appreciate that they took some risks with this, and for the most part they paid off. Excellent setting and story. Support the devs - I hope they will continue making games.
I'm four hours in, and its enough time for me to write a thumbs down. First, I like or find value in every Supermassive game. I've played them all. Even though I personally disliked The Quarry, I recognize it was mostly the humor and tone which is subjective. This though? They need to get rid of the people who managed this project. First, these games are known for characters that sometimes don't make sense. And that's ok with teenagers or normal people. The people on this ship are supposed to be 'the best of the best'. Yet the commander in charge is insufferably dim. There's a computer on board that can apparently detect foreign life forms, but that's never referenced outside of the prolog. Second, the characters have taken a step back from "The Devil Inside Me". Like that one or not, they really nailed the motion capture, had great voice acting, and largely got rid of the big teeth, staring eyes, and other artifacts this genre has had. Its back here! Characters look have the quality of their earlier work, not their later work. Third, pacing. They keep cutting to several days in the future where you go through a stealth segment or 'action' scene. My guess is the director thought they couldn't pad the early part of the game with story and then fill the last half with all action and stealth segments. Bad call. In a game with story choices and consequences, I don't want to know that X character is going to be alive 18 hours from now. You've ruined the tension. Fourth, the ambiance. The game starts out GREAT. The 'prologue' is so far the best part of the game. It feels tense and sets the mood. Then when you clear it you get some upbeat music with some footage of the ship outside for the next chapter. What? WHY? You ruin the moment! What are we going for here? The lack of concern of the crew combined with this makes me feel like I'm just going through the motions and has 'gamed' me right out of the immersion. But hey, we can get past that if the game is fun right? So far, I'm not having a lot of fun. Maybe its the stealth segments. They don't bother me and I'm not 'bored', but they slow the actual story and choices down quite a bit. And that's what we're all here for. It's just incredibly disappointing and their worst work to date. And I hate to say this because the difficulty and rewind options are top notch. Everything else is just a step back.
How this doesn't have online coop and the previews games (like House of ashes) did??????? I liked the game, but this is so stupid, and I already saw about your future update, that still very dumb cause just one person plays at the time. How is it that in the older games you could play at the same time with the characters each player picked and now its not an option at all??????

I think this game is heavily over hated. If you are not a fan of stealth horror games (think Outlast), this may not be the one for you. But as someone who is a huge Dark Pictures & Outlast fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The plot was interesting, the design of the world & ship was scary yet beautiful, and the characters I think were decent for the most part. Outside of a few things that annoyed me about the crews decisions (which honestly, is standard horror movie stuff), I don't have many complaints for this game. Not the best, but I'd say middle of the pack as far as this series goes. If you are a Dark Pictures fan, give this a chance.
