5/10 screen is soo tiny, almost nowhere to go walls instant kill, even if its just a tiny tap. i feel like the animation and the WALL dont match up perfectly + local co-op - price
Dimension Drive is a Galaga ripoff with a twist... there's two side by side arenas and you teleport between them so you're basically trying to play two games of Galaga at the same time. I never said it was a good twist, just that it was one. And that's really all there is to it... this is just a Nintendo Switch bullet hell game that's somehow been dumped on Steam. Shoot 'em ups are an old, dead genre, and you can play dozens of pretty good ones for free... but here we have a mediocre one with an eye opening price tag slapped on it. On the upside, this Nintendo Switch game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. It also appears to be genuinely made, no flipped assets, but that alone isn't enough to create a compelling game experience. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power handhelds forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC. The developers appear to be involved in suspicious data harvesting as they demand users hand over their email address and other private, personal details, to be put on a mailing list. Presumably this is so they can profile you, collect data on you, combine that data with other sources and sell your private information off to the highest bidder (and, in fact, anyone else who is willing to pay for it). That's reprehensible and must not be tolerated. I'm sure they'll swear black and blue they don't, so "just trust them", but I wouldn't trust these shady developers as far as I could throw them. Ethical developers don't need your email address. Stay safe out there. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Dimension Drive didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for defeating the "Gemini" boss, trivial to get, but less than 24 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Dimension Drive has the gamer gouging price of $13 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $13 asking price for this game could get you games like "Final Fantasy XIV Online", "Kingdom Come Deliverance" or "Hearts of Iron IV". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Awesome Dimension Drive 8/10 Heisen
Not a bad game, but I just could not super get into it. I found the jumping back and forth a bit much to keep track of, and your shooting can run out of energy. I just could not get super into it. I see what they were trying to go for, but I just was not having fun on the steam deck.
