Devil's Dare is bloody a smash up parody of everything from the 90s, pitting the manliest video game heroes against the badest monsters from your favorite horror movies. It's the final result of what would happen if everyone from that decade came together to create a baby, a baby that just so happens to grow up to be a beat'em up.

There are no redeeming features for this game, it didn't even work on Windows 10 without a whole lot of messing around with setting it to ignore fullscreen optimisations and putting it into Windows 7 compatibility mode. Then in the game an absolutely bizarre default control scheme (X as the confirm button??!?), no resolution options and fixed in a 4:3 aspect ratio. After sorting what I could out, picking characters and getting started, this badly-rip-off-golden-axe-em-up turned out to have one of the worst control systems I've encountered since the lag of the Stadia launch. No. No. No. Burn it with fire. I give this one 1 it's shortly going to be uninstalled out of 10.
Tags: Sidescroll Brawler Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Brown saturation. Zombie theme. Heavy indie thematic. Combo oriented without proper onscreen instructions. Outcompeted by saturation of quality titles. Devil's dare is a game that breaks the 4th wall, starts the plot with a zombie outbreak at a gaming convention, offers linear brown boring levels, and insists that you perform annoying to execute combos that often do not register. I am fully prepared to admit that maybe I am not doing things right, but this is not exactly optional, performing certain kinds of combos yield healing item rewards which is the only realistic way to progress. Bosses are timed and have a ton of health and spawn enemies which makes them fairly hard to solo. The game has you grind coins to purchase continues but the cost is too steep making death a near guaranteed game over. Characters with different, potentially better abilities start out locked and must be unlocked through play. Otherwise the controls, although not exactly fluid or graceful, do work mostly as intended, the hitboxing felt mostly fair. Abilities did not have a lot of reach however, sometimes the game would not register as I mashed appropriate buttons to perform actions, especially when trying to breakout. Ultimately this game probably has some entertainment value, especially if can co-op with someone and learn to go with the flow and get familiar and intimate with this game. The thing is, why would you bother going through all that just so you can have an underpar experience. I own easily half a dozen better sidescroll games already in my collection and I can find at least three more that came out recently and look more promising than this. Here are a few quick suggestions you might want to try instead of this. I will remove this title from library to give better visibility to more entertaining, more fluid and better executed titles with art styles and thematics that stand out better instead. https://store.steampowered.com/app/564050/Bud_Spencer__Terence_Hill__Slaps_And_Beans/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/674520/FightN_Rage/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/361300/Mother_Russia_Bleeds/
