This really is a fantastic social oriented game and it does require a microphone to play it properly. Players basically find themselves paired up and placed in a rather sizeable mansion consisting of different floors, outer grounds and various hidden passages. The game is basically a treasure hunt assisted by the various clues that are provided to the player. The first team to find all their loot wins the game. ....Yet there is more. One player is a devil in disguise and his goal is to murder all the other players whilst trying to hide his identity lest the other players gang up and capture him. The devil, when transformed, is very fast and powerful and especially dangerous to players caught alone, yet it vulnerable to players in groups. Players have to choose whether to focus on the clues and treasure hunt which leaves them more vulnerable to the devil or stay with others which will dilute their loot search time. Teams can also be much more effective in gathering the loot if they split up but that also leaves them much more vulnerable. Players also have to consider whether they wish to share the Devil's identity should they find it out. They could even decieved other players and pretend it is someone else in order to sabotage another teams treasure hunt or break the trust between team mates. The mansion itself is very interactive with peep holes, hiding places, traps and secret doors. Good players will learn the mansion and utlilise it effectively. Another fantastic aspect to the game is the music. When a player transforms into the Devil a forboding tune acompanies the Devil where he/she wil go and this really sets the atmosphere in the mansion and puts the other players on edge, ya better hide. The other compositions in the game are also very fitting and a few are quite catchy. I highly recommend this game for people who find the above description compelling. The game certainly is niche and won't please everyone. it is not a shooter and it is not first person. It is what it is and the developers have produced a very polished and playable product that I think is well worth looking into and supporting if it is your kind of thing. Thumbs up. :)
The game has a single map on which some traps are randomly placed. While it IS somewhat fun to play this for a while, sadly, the playerbase is really, really small. For a game to start, six players must gather, first. I've not had that happen for the past two weeks, meaning: I spent money on a game I can't play.
Very fun game, it can be a bit odd on your first two games but once you understand the game you have a lot of fun with it. So far, my only complaint is that if the devil cannot find the last player(s) while at the same time the last player(s) cannot find the last item, it gets to be very long and boring. Other than that it's insanely fun. Introduced my friend to this game and first game we had I was the Devil, killing friends is fun.
This game is great! It's loads of fun either scavenging for items while slapping the devil down or hunting down the other teams to claim victory for yourself! Would highly recommend. Seriously, get it. It's fun. You'll love it!! There has been a recent downside to there not being any people on as of late. To any who are looking to buy this game or who already have it, I do have a group called 'Devil's Bluff Revival'. We play every Thursday @ 7:30pmEST/6:30pmCST and Saturday @ 7pmEST/6pmCST. We are hoping to add in more times as more people join and let me know their schedules. So please come join the fun and let's bring this great game back!
We can bring it back! Friend me if you want to start a game! Who doesn't love a good murder mystery?
This is a truly awesome game with great experience. Sadly the player base is non existent.. Attempting to revive the game with a Devil's Bluff Matchmaking discord server! https://discord.gg/yTJzkfZ Please join us and revive this wonderful game!
This is a really great game with no players. That really sucks. I hate having to give this game a negative review. If you have 5 friends to play with, 100% get this and play it. If you don't...I can't recommend it. According to SteamCharts the last time this game had enough players on at the same time to even start a match was in December 2018.
Wondering in the halls alone, you compete against one another to uncover all of the clues for your scavenger hunt. Trapped in a large, rather luxious mansion owned by an unknown host, the only way out is to win the scavenger hunt with your partner. Oh but there is a catch; amongst your party lies a demonic entity known as the devil who would stalk your every move, hide in darkest corners, and set off horrorifying mechanics within the house in order to kill you off, one by one. Will you survive this scavenger hunt alive or get backstabbed by your trusted friend.......? ........Or just kill other people to ruin relationships. :D This game is fun to play with your friends and ruin relationships, in a good way. There will always been that awarding, good feeling of peeping holes and discovering your friends secret to tell the others(as in witnessing someone undiguising into a devil) and murdering everyone, knowing that you played them like a fiddle. With a very interesting mechanic were only the people around you can hear you talk through the mic, you can discuss thing such as......how to capture the devil......or just kill your friend behind the walls so nobody will hear them scream(I'm watching you, CreepsMcPasta!). You don't have to worry about your dead friend tattle tale on you for killing them.
Devil's Bluff is Great in concept, Messy in execution. In a full game it's a race between 6 teams of 2 to find 14 items in a scavnger hunt in an huge mansion. You get a clue on the whereabouts of the item because the item can still spawn in the next room over... don't think you want to be looking for something for the kitchen in the bathroom but it happens. Normally it's the first team to find all 14 items wins but there is a DEVIL AMONG YOU who's goal it is to kill everyone before that and not get captured in the process. Basically they transform into devil form, wack you twice and if no one revives you in 90 seconds, You're dead. The only defense you have is to try and capture them, or smack them and run and hide. Now here's the part of the game that makes it feel like early access, this is probably the third time they fixed how hard it is to capture the devil ((impossible at time of writting)) and even if it was balanced it's a race to who can mash their space bar the most ((or set up a marco x.x)) and the only real way to win is to have a slow devil... I rather it be more logically like hey you have to slap him x times then capture... As far as playing a human goes, there is no way to heal up if you take damage from the devil or traps, like easy to fall in or get slapped in, holes in the floor, and if you die and get revived you only get one devil hit or 2 traps worth of health back. Now for Scavanger Hunt part, It's the same level with the same layout every time. Throw in the fact that there are rooms you have to know how to get to... like jumping in a tv or another hidden passage, new players don't have a chance till they learn the map, and the team that knows the most about the clues, will always be the team that wins it. There is not hint system or anything like that either so if you can't figure out the clue, might as well give up... That said there is still fun to be had, and the devs are promising patches, one of which later they said will randomize the layout to make it a more fair game but things could always happen. Right now if you have a couple friends to play this with, it's a fun time, but if you're just buying for yourself, this might not be a good pickup till later.
I was recommended this game last year around Halloween by a friend. I checked the game out and seemed like a quirky game I would enjoy. I bought the game and was playing it during its "prime" which only consisted of 2-3 full games around peak hours. If you were lucky you would find 1 full game around night time. The player base was very small to begin with. The Devil's Bluff team chalked it up to struggling advertising and couple that with being (and remains) overpriced for what the game was. The Beginning The game initially was how the Devil's Bluff team intended the game to be. It was a mystery who the Devil was and you would only hear whispers or rumors while passing other players finding their clues. "The devil is male/female, the devil is _____, etc". The devil player would genuinely try to keep their dark secret, usually attacking players who are split from their teammate then returning to human form. Nothing was more scary than your teammate turning into the devil before your eyes after collecting a few clues together. But after so many games the Devil players saw no reason to ever return to human form. It became the "norm" for the devil to immediately transform as soon as the game started and begin slaughtering everyone for an easy win. The Devil Most people would agree that a 1v11 game is widely unfair, so the 1 man out (devil) would need to have some slight advantages. The Devil player was more than well equipped to dispatch players with ease. The devil player was faster and stronger than the other 11 players combined. Even if all the players banded together to stop the devil at the start the devil would still win. Human players had no real defense against the devil besides slapping/knocking him to the ground (no damage) and running (he will catch you quickly) or "juking" him which involved enter and leaving rooms or stairs. 2-3 attacks from the devil would knock you out of the game unless another player revives you before your death timer hits 0. Most devil players would just camp around a few downed players yelling for help and then slaughter their would be saviors. The devil had a unending devil form and a secret room which allowed him to view and teleport to rooms of his choosing. The devil won a vast majority of the games unless a team was quick enough with their clues. The Clues Clues were not very randomized in location or order of sequence. When you first started playing the game you really had to think about the clue and what room or item it is referring to. After a few games you quickly noticed clues seemed almost like an ordered set; clue 2 will be in the kitchen, clue 6 will be in the sewers, etc. Players quickly only had to read the first few words in a clue and knew what room and where the clue exactly was. Devil players hardly had any incentive to collect clues or help their teammate because while the devil camps downed players they drop clues(if you don't have that item) upon their death. Although other players could pick them up but it was unlucky they were not guarded by the devil. So a Devil who never collected 1 clue could still win by clues by killing players who collected their clues. The Death of Devil's Bluff The community was vocal about addressing the clues and devil and had many discussions about different changes that could be implemented or changed. We wanted the game to be better for everyone because it was unique game. Players wanted more clues and they also wanted clues to have a more randomized order. They also wanted the devil to have a timer or cooldown to be in devil form so his reign of unending power wouldn't seem so unfair. The Devil's Bluff team RELECTUNLY implemented some of these changes; mostly involving the devil. I'm not sure which team member it was but I remember the patch release post where he basically called the community a bunch of cry babies so they changed the devil. I was disgusted how this team member mocked and treated players who wanted to improve a game they enjoyed. I was completely done with the Devil Bluff Team or the game at that point. However, I wanted to see the changes; I logged in afterward and the devil had a decreasing strength timer the longer he remains in devil form the weaker he becomes. Sadly, after this change it did not seem to bring anyone back to game and it became barren. But the devs and devils bluff team made their quick easy cash around Halloween last year and had no real commitment to sticking with their product. TL;DR The game had a quirky unique atmosphere and was widely entertaining when it was first released. After a few games players noticed the clues are unchanging and predictable and the devil quickly proving his easy dominance over the other players. The devs reluctantly made changes after mocking their player base then quickly running off with their money bags and never looked back. The game was very short lived and I cannot recommend this game to anyone because NO ONE PLAYS IT. Save yourself money this or next Halloween and do not buy this game.
