Looking for anime-based games? Check out our Steam curator!
[Kawaii/VN] Short comedy story full of homage to Sherlock Holmes. Not only cute anime artwork but also fun minigames including interrogations like Ace Attorney. Great price.
Genre
Eine Mystery Detective Visual Novel
Story
+ Günstig + Gute Story + Spannend + Nette Charakter Sprites + Nette Gameplay Mischung + Achievements
Fazit

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow third group
I thought the premise of this was quite interesting and the price point looked good too, so I purchased it. It had cute well-drawn characters, nice music and a decent case to solve. The overall how I can describe the game is that its cute and has light comedy. This do deserve like extra chapters if they come in future. I liked how the club is so creative with coming up with ideas to how to make it popular, you the main male protagonist is trying to find a school club and you join the detective club, which only had 1 member, your basically reviving the club which was very popular and long standing along with the club president who seemed well amateur but has the knowledge. I loved the cute chicken also, I did like the case and how creative it was with the plot twist in the end. Gameplay did have mini games and danganronpa like debates, interrogations, examining testimonies. You have a notepad to check also. Some smart riddles were thrown in to the pool as well I had problems with the second one. The characters are really great imo, not too much traumatic pasts but just school issues being solved. I would like to play the second chapter if it do comes out. Its not too plot heavy and feels refreshing.
*Note* I purchased this with my own money, I wish I was fortunate enough to receive free games! TLDR? - I would recommend this game to people who enjoy anime visual novels, especially to those who enjoy enjoy reading dialogue with the occasional mini-game. I think its solid value for a short & sweet session. I just hope more content is added. After a five hour stream, I have now completed Detective School Club. Rather than doing a pros / cons list I thought I would instead share my positives, and opportunities for refining the game further in my opinion. Positives: Story - Short and simple lighthearted fun for anime visual novel lovers. Can be completed in one sitting. Setting - Solid character design + world building. I could easily recognise characters, and enjoyed learning more about the school. I also enjoyed the references to Pokemon & Sherlock Holmes, they didn't feel too forced or out of place. Graphics - Visually pleasing and interactive UI, with some very nice character drawings. Music - Great soundtrack, I genuinely really enjoyed listening to this whilst playing. It set the scene very well. Opportunities: Translation - Some but not all of the dialogue, needed further checking for translations. Whilst I'm not the most literate, some of the dialogue just needed tweaking to be a bit more grammatically correct. Though this became less of an issue the further into the game I got. Also very minor, but I'd suggest that the game launches in English for the first time, just as it's the most common language. Content - This is the big one for me. The game is marketed for the player to solve "cases" implying multiple. So far this game consist of a singular case. Now to his credit, this is Danny Garay's first game, and as a first case I'd say it's a brilliant foundation. I really hope this game is expanded on, as I'd love to see more cases, and see more growth from the characters. There is also room for the story to either stay lighthearted or could spiral into a darker and more nefarious plot (could the school director end up being the ultimate villain? Who knows! But it would be very cool to see that for a climax). Replay-ability - So fair the only reason to repeat this, would be to obtain a better score. However, once you know the answers from the first time around it wouldn't be too difficult. Artwork - Overall I do really like the art style, if I were to nitpick I would say a bit more budget and time to include more detailed backgrounds would help. I feel that the oil painting / blur effect was a little harsh at times. But hey that's subjective and probably just my personal taste. Final thoughts: MORE - Just give me more. Really that about sums it up, I believe if more time was taken to add cases either as a separate DLC as $4 per case I would be fine with. But ultimately I feel if this sold for $25 with a full story, much like the games that inspired this, it could do very well. I won't pretend to know what Danny has planned in the future for this game, but it's certainly one that I would love to see nurtured and succeed. I'd hate for this to go unnoticed, as that work that is there clearly has a lot of love poured into it.
Short version:
Alice is really cute <3
Long version:
Really, the whole game is cute! It’s a fun, lighthearted, and short experience, only taking around ~3 hours. Completely worth the time spent! And it’s only $3 too! The character art and designs are pleasing to look at. If anything, it’s somewhat unfortunate how little relevance most of them have. But maybe they’ll get time in the spotlight in a sequel! The backgrounds are just real photos with filters, which is typical for games in the genre. I don’t dislike them, and they fit the game, but I know not everyone will be fond of it. The music is fitting and catchy. Could totally sell the soundtrack for like a dollar or so. The mystery isn’t as complex as its inspirations, so its puzzles, riddles, deduction, etc. are fairly easy – you shouldn’t get stuck on anything for more than a few minutes. But I really liked that since I’m kind of stupid. The only real criticism I can give is the English translation is not perfect, but it’s what you’d expect from a Spanish speaker whose 2nd language is English. It doesn’t impact the experience – they’re all relatively minor things you can easily gloss over. If that’s enough to dissuade you, then you’ll be missing out! Again, it’s only $3, and with a sale it'll be even less, so what’s there to lose? My review won’t count towards the game’s review score, but I wanted to give my opinion anyway :)
My review of Detective School Club You can find the meaning of the number of emoji on my profile.
I received this game thanks to my curator page, don't hesitate to follow it if you want to see other reviews, especially on VNs!

Character 🔆 Mystery 💕💕

Lenght 2 hours Price Given Free

Interactive ✔️✔️✔️ BGM 🎼🎼

Story 🏝️

All students must join a club due to new rules. However, our main character has been forced to join the detective club near dissolution, so how will you save the club? The game isn't exceptional, but it does have a number of interesting features that encourage player action. In this game, you have to solve the harassment case of a cooking club student and prove the usefulness of your club. There are riddles, debates and incognito words to guess. To tell the truth, the story is a bit boring and miss the hint option because I spent a lot of time stuck at times and had to try all the options to find the solution. On a positive note, the developer was very active and prompt in dealing with the small problems I and others encountered. I don't have much experience in this kind of game, so I don't know if it's a game to recommend or not, but I dud enjoy it.
First I want to thank Danny Garay for the free copy of his release. This review conflicted me for awhile. The game plays much like a Visual Novel which is fine. That said, dude, you've got to work on your storytelling skills! I can forgive a lot if the storytelling is tight (this includes character dialogue.) I did try to do a playthrough for you Danny...but the character dialogue put me off so badly I lost interest in less than 90 minutes of play!
At the beginning i want to mention, that I received free copy for the means of the review, however it won’t affect in any way, the review or my rating of the VN. Detective School Club is a short, cute „feel good“detective story, in which you are tasked with solving a mystery. You are able to interrogate people, collect clues, that will help you to find the solution to the case. The plot of the story is simple and predictive (especially the “big reveal” at the end), but also enjoyable and cosy. It’s a story to relax to, or a break between two longer VNs, that require more commitment. The quality of characters is acceptable, but it is missing the depth. They have some fun and interesting characteristics, but they are superficial. However, it’s enough for the needs of the plot. It’s easy to notice, that DSC is inspired by Danganronpa. Although, very vaguely which is good. I like, that the author is able to find inspiration and yet, create something that has its own personality. It’s detective story with comedy spin. The humour is fitting well and flows naturally with the events. The character sprites, vary when it comes to the quality. Some of them are well done, other seem very basic. The backgrounds are good enough, to not take away from the story. Some of them add charm to the environment. From the design view the text box feels off. It would look better, if it was bigger and the text was centred. There are also two BGM songs. :) It’s okay. It’s pleasant and I personally like them. The problem that still wasn’t resolved after release is that achievements don’t work. The game itself is enjoyable and deserve the rating easily. R:59/100
