I'm sorry, but I can't recommend the game. I've played up until somewhere in the beginning of first case, and those are my impressions that I had so far: Positive: - The main girl you interact with seems cute/adorable, I liked her - The music is fitting - The premise of the first case is genuinly interesting - The comedy is solid Negative: - The english translation is, sorry to say, quite poor. Nearly every prompt of dialogue has an error, ranging from the wrong time, the wrong grammar or the wrong use of he/she to the use of completely different words, where you have to guess what was actually meant. Normally that wouldn't be such a big issue. However, the problem is that this is a detective-themed visual novel. Since the player reads a lot, and details are essential for slonving crimes and myteries, the game requires a good or ideally perfect translation to properly convey all the necessary information. - The beginning of the game is very slow. It took me more than 20 minutes to even get to the start of the first case - The main downside for me, and the reason I stopped playing the game, was the questioning/interrogation system. The game uses a system similar to Ace Attorney and other detective games, which I generally enjoy. However, there's a major twist: asking "unnecessary" questions costs you lives, and running out of lives results in a game over. This mechanic didn’t sit well with me for two main reasons: 1. As a detective, it’s natural and essential to gather as much information as possible. Penalizing players for being thorough feels counterintuitive to the role you're supposed to play. I know that other games sometimes also use the "getting penalized for a wrong question"-system, but only during the final showdown or critical moments and not during a normal tesitmony, when the player is still collecting information. 2. It was often unclear to me which questions were considered “unnecessary,” and why. This led to frustration, since I couldn't predict what the game would penalize and what not. What made it worse was that, at the beginning of the case, I was looking forward to learning more and diving into the mystery... but the moment I asked the second question the client who hired me got annoyed and told me not to waste her time just because I asked something the game deemed unnecessary. It really broke the immersion and took the fun out of the experience.
I really like the premise of this game. I do wish we could see the main character, but I understand that visual novels don't tend to show what the main character looks like. I did have issues with the English translation, as some things didn't make sense grammatically, but I got the gist of it. I like the art style and the music. I did get stuck on the School Debate section, specifically the part about the love letter author's characteristics, but that's my own fault. I also got very annoyed with Neil after I solved the first riddle, but again, that's my fault. notes for future me, in case I decide to play this again: if you bring one rabbit, you'll have ___ rabbit in three years clue to author -- #4 in club --> watched locker --> paper and locker four non-melted candles and six melted candles M A R Y H A R R O W M A T H H E L P I'm sad that there weren't more cases. I feel like I'm playing an incomplete game because no more cases :c I liked the interrogation sections. The Incognito Roulette sections.... nope. Especially for the first one? Nah. Obviously I figured them out eventually.
Good mini-novel about a detective club. Mixed Ace Attorney, Professor Layton and Danganronpa. I'm waiting for the next part with other cases
Not enough Jane Stoner
A bit cliched but isn't all anime/manga to a degree. Its not the most sophisticated visual novel/detective game you may come across but it is pretty innovative in its mechanics even if the animations aren't the most complex and the tutorials a tad bothersome. There is a feel good factor about this game and though one may question the setting originality, the game itself is fairly unique. My old will gripe is that it is fairly short, playable within a couple of hours so the characters don't get much room for development ect. but I hope there will be a sequel.
