So after almost 6hrs of playing this game, getting all the achievements.. you might wonder why i don't recommend this game. Okay so the not-so-debatable things: The areas tend to be a little maze, expecially the bigger ones. I got lost a good amount of times, even when i replayed the game. -> I'd like to have a map If i would have taken a bigger break from the game, i wouldnt have remembered what my task is, so a little mission-tracker would be nice Honestly, me personally, i've played most of the game with a guide, because i could not have done it without one. Some things to interact with, and/or collect are so hard to find, that a way to highlight the points-of-interest would have helped me a lot. The english and spanisch dub/synchro arent the best. Ive mainly played with the english one, because i dont speak spanish. The dialoge in itself is weird, at least in my opinion. The story - I can only speak for myself here There was potential, but the story lost me after a while. Positive about it, i didnt encounter bugs or any glitches but this game would also have a good amount of potential for VR All in All Pretty areas, very confusing, weak storyline got potential, but didnt reach its peak.
This is the worst Lovecraft-inspired piece of code ever =) lazy static 360 backgrounds. Horrendous, mind-numbing, soul-crushing pixel hunting. Terrible voice acting with different actors pronouncing names of deities and places differently. Story written by Cthulhu himself - to destroy the minds of humakind. 2/10
Once you get to the third chapter, the layout is circular and confusing without a map. Ultimately, I didn't care about the narrative enough to try and surpass that roadblock; if it was more interesting, I probably would've tried to push through.
If you value your sanity, please don't play this game. Watch (skip through) a Let's Play instead, as there are two things you can enjoy. 1. Visuals (I kept making screenshots of the opening act, as the artstyle is beautiful) 2. Sound design (does the job well) The rest ranges from weak to abysmal, eg actors who can't even pronounce important words correctly, like Innsmouth and Cthulhu (Ka-Zulu) to pixel hunting, direction seeking (weird mazes that don't make sense) and the endless collecting of notes and books. But the story...its so disjointed and convoluted that you don't know who you are playing or what their aim is. No character development, the puzzles are more archaic than Cthulhu itself, but what I am still really pissed off about is the $5 plastic DVD I received after pledging $120 for a Collector's Box. A shame, a tragedy that has Lovecraft rolling around in his grave.
While graphically pretty, the game is poorly executed. It very quickly turns into the player just trying to click anything and everything in hopes of it being something that can be used. This is just a hidden object game that was poorly coded and sold as something a lot more. I really wish I had not backed it on kickstarter.
Really don't know why the rating's that bad. Seems like a pretty atmospheric adventure game with a really unique sense of design choices to me. Solid, as far as I can tell. And it finally works on Linux, too. So, give it a try, will ya?
The game play is a point and click game similar to late 90s, early 2000s mystery adventure games but the story is nearly 1:1 lifted from Lovecraft. The moon logic is pretty heavy too, and even with the Steam guide I couldn't make it past the 3rd level. I was on board until I kept repeatedly getting stuck, as the game had a fairly neat aesthetic and "photo realistic" graphics. Also the point and click puzzle solving gameplay carried it quite far too. Desolatium has potential to be something adequate but it falls a bit short. I'd skibidi this toilet 3/10
