Desert Ride Coaster

This is ♥♥♥♥. Its short, boring and the rollercoaster has very unnatural movements that will make you feel dizzy. The one positive quality about this game is the fact that it is free. I don't recommend this game.

The game is good enough to make its point. There needs to be more natural sound, like actual roller coaster noise, and less music. I can't get it to shut down correctly though. my computer says it is still running, and i have to reboot the computer to turn it off.

Updated review (6/3/2018): apparently, there is only one path now on the Steam store page. There used to be multiple paths. The game is still rather short. But it runs smooth and it's thrilling for that minute or so. Original review below. --- Very short Roller Coaster. Nice visuals. There's 3 slightly different paths (so there is some replay value). Runs great on the Oculus Rift on Steam. Great introdcution to VR for newbies. Game is easily worth .99 cents, but's free. I would recommend it for free, absolutely. 6/10

Desert Ride Coaster is a free VR Short rollercoaster ride synchronized with music. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. The background music drowns out any track noise that you would imagine hearing. Very short ride like 1 minute. You might be able to play this if you do have problems with motion sickness since so short, or close your eyes. UI worked with my controller and has instructions. You can recenter yourself in a seated position. Maybe needs a turn sign, load up a black screen till you turn around. Shows a full body riding a mine cart. Really like the experience. Definitely has the roller coaster effect without the nausea. The graphics were bright and crisp. I'd definitely like to see more.

Desert Ride Coaster is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, Desert Ride Coaster is a software application that that runs you through a non-interactive, short roller coaster ride in VR. This simplistic interaction-free tech demo is obviously not a game. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process. Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers. There are no gameplay loops in this software, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. It's a software application and as such has no merits as a video game for gamers. Because of this, I cannot recommend this non-game software as a game to gamers.
