Descent: Road to Legend

This is an excellent companion to the board game "Descent: Journeys in the dark" (2nd edition). This is no longer sold sadly, but if you can get a copy it is great.

You will be prompted to and expected to give money to the developers through this cash shop to buy in-game goods so you can play the game.[/quote] Descent: Road to Legend is one of thousands of nasty mobile apps infesting the "free" section of Steam, but it's not really free. This isn't even a game, it's a "companion app" to a boardgame. And I guess the first rule of boardgame design is if you can't play your boardgame without a crappy cash shop infested mobile app, you should not be making boardgames. So really, the mobile app "game" is just a veneer, a thin skin wrapped around a nasty, predatory mobile app cash shop. Thus, the true purpose of this mobile app is to get you to hand your credit card details to the greedy mobile devs so you can buy stuff in the nasty cash shop... it shouldn't be considered a real game because it's a mobile app cash harvester, and has no place in your game library. Content is locked behind the cash shop, and you can't go far without handing over your credit card details. Putting that toxic mobile app monetisation aside... this is a mobile app. I didn't spend thousands on a gaming PC so I could pretend it's an iPhone, and I don't think you did either... this kind of mobile app has no place in your Steam library. Even after that, the developer has their hand out for $10 USD worth of DLC for this as you're expected to buy some extra DLC packages from Steam to fully unlock everything. This is deliberately deceptive pricing when a single up front free would be more honest. The game should not be considered free due to this shady pricing structure. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.

You need an out of print (and now expensive) board game to play this. But it allows me to play that game solo, with incredible precision and difficulty. Just wish the board game never went out of print.
