Depths of Limbo is a difficult action roguelike with a dark theme. The fast-paced combat is spiced up with a variety of unique items and weapons found throughout the procedurally generated world.

The game is nice, but certainly unfinished (it's on Early Access, after all). The developer was very active in the beginning, but nothing has happened since March (both game uptades and announcements). Though already fun, buying it now is financing its potential, not its content, that is scarse. With that said, the game's premise is the Binding of Isaac's room by room than floor by floor style, but with Nuclear Throne's twin stick controls and focus on weapons and ammo, not (primarily) abilities. Depths of Limbo already has it all, but not much to offer in any front. A few enemies, a few weapons, a few abilities, a few bosses. What got me to buy (and enjoy) it is the potential of differing from the core games it's inspired on, like the ones I mentioned before. Some rooms have sound puzzles that are simple, but nice, and the infinite ammo pistol with rare other ammo available brings a resource management to the game that I appreciate. As a game, I can't recommend it for now, but I do not regret financially supporting the potential of the developer.
Playing one match already reminds me of two games mashed up together. The Binding of Isaac and Nuclear Throne. This bullet hell felt amazing to play, My first run dying in the caves. Being one of the first people to get their hands on this game, It felt pretty amazing to play! Huge learning curve, but the other games have it too. With different possibilities each floor, what can you really expect? I, 100% reccommend this game for anyone interested in dodging with a little reptile who can shoot machine guns without will. :)

I did enjoy playing this game quite some time ago. And I have written a positive review for this game. But today I'm changing my review into a negative. The development of this game has just stopped. Now it's been over a year since the last update. This game had a huge potential, but it's dead. Don't buy the early access until they finish it. Edit: It's no longer a paid game, it's a freebie. I am gonna keep my review negative, though. Mostly because: It still hasn't been updated.
Depths of Limbo is a retro pixel art (meaning: developer had no artistic talent/couldn't afford a proper artist) roguelike (meaning: developer didn't know how to make compelling content so relies on procgen as a substitute) 2D top down survival shootemup/Binding of Isaac ripoff that was abandoned in early access. While it's commendable for the developers to release the game for free after they scammed people out of money through Steams disastrous Early Access program, it's still appalling behavior to take money for a video game without any idea how to complete the thing. That aside, and judging the game by its merit, we have ugly lazy pixel graphics, directionless, tired old 2D survival shooter gameplay, and some technical issues, too. While controls are customisable, resolution isn't (but you can "zoom", huh). The game works with KB+M but prompts you to press "Start", which is a key that doesn't seem to be present on my keyboard. On top of all the other crimes against gaming, this one gets a thumbs down for treating PC gamers like console peasants.
It's OK but definitely unfinished. I would say that I held out hope long enough and now it's been 10 months since the last update. (Not a game update, just an update) I do not recommend you pick up an unfinished game that I feel pretty safe in saying is never going to be finished. That's what can happen though. ┐(´д`)┌
Game has a lot of promise, but it no longer appears to be under development, and is very incomplete in its current state. I would not recommend buying until such a time when active development continues, if that ever happens.
