Do you need to play Demon Turf before playing Demon Tides?
You can hop right into Demon Tides without ever having played Demon Turf before! There’s plenty of easter eggs for existing fans, but we’ve designed the narrative for new players to jump right in!
What does “Expressive” platforming mean, exactly?
Simply put, it’s a platformer where every solution is the right one! We want you to express yourself through the game’s movement, and to do that we’ve created a highly customisable move-set with nearly unlimited combinational depth. The further you get into the game, and the more comfortable you get with the movement, the more unique your gameplay will become!
What’s Fabraz done before Demon Tides?
We’re most well known for the 3D Platformer Demon Turf and 2D Platformer Slime-san! But we’re also behind lesser known titles such as Cannon Crasha, Planet Diver and even published Skellboy and SpiritSphere DX!
Wait, are you also behind Bubsy 4D?
We sure are, wild huh? We've teamed up with Atari to finally give that bobcat the love he always deserved!

Just a little under 4 hours in I can't exclaim how much of an improvement on the formula and feel this is over the original Demon Turf and I 100% completed that game! I went in completely blind thinking this was just going to be Mario Sunshine but Demon Turf flavored... NOPE, this is Wind Waker AND Mario Sunshine but Demon Turf flavored, and I mean that as the highest praise possible!
A huge, expressive 3D platformer. Bowser's Fury meets chill, lo-fi vibes. It's open-world with a massive variety of "levels" spread around the archipelago. You can do these in any order you like, the only hard limit is needing to collect enough "golden gears" to advance to the next area. The game is as hard as you want to make it. Demon Tides respects your damn time, and lets you plant a checkpoint almost wherever you want, outside of some specific challenges. It was never overly punishing the ability to put a checkpoint down anywhere encourages creativity. Want to try some crazy ♥♥♥♥ instead of jumping like a normal person, plant a checkpoint and give it a whirl. The art style pops and you are also treated to a ridiculous number of unlockable outfits and hair styles. No microtransactions at all. I encountered some technical issues, like pop-in when you approach some of the islands in the archipelago, but it was fine otherwise. It's not going to blow anyone's socks off but it's cute and colourful. I liked most of the music. It's no Mario, but the lo-fi hip-hop music fits the vibe really well. I even bought the OST on Bandcamp and it's been in my rotation. My favourite tracks are the collection of "A King's Will" tracks which play during the final boss fight. There's a story too. Yeah. It's not that bad, but some of the dialogue can be a bit cringe. I think that's supposed to be the point in some parts, but it doesn't make it better. The plot overall is secondary to the point of the game which is to jump. Besides that, I can't really fault the game for anything besides a few technical issues and some bad writing. I even went for 100% completion.

What an excellent excellent excellent platforming game. Perfectly rewarding. I would love a bit of improvement on the textures of the very large structures as they look a little low fidelity but overall this is an incredible game that I am deeply enjoying. This coming from someone that has hated Mario for a long time...so for me to enjoy this game THIS much is a testament to how much they got right. Fun characters. Great animation on the main character actions. Great character design. Simple fun story. Funny dialog. VERY VERY EXCITED for a sequel hopefully
Попрыгушки с особой атмосферой. Знание того как двигаться из первой части помогает быстро освоиться.
Demon Tides starts strong but only gets better with time. It's core mechanics and world design are very special in the realm of 3D platformers. It makes collectathons feel fresh again, not only by making the world boundless, but by fully utilizing the scale and endless possibilities in level design such boundlessness offers. Towards the final third, this game has some of the most creative 3D platforming you'll ever see. With tight challenges organically integrated in a world that is surprisingly atmospheric as well as interesting in its narrative framing. An incredible step up from the solid predecessor.
Great game so far. Lots of content to go through and an enjoyable level of challenge. Only complaint is that some things could've been refined better like NPC/cutscene animations, small mobs, and voice acting. Otherwise great game.
I caught wind of this game alongside its predecessor, Demon Turf, around when Bubsy 4D started making waves for not being an embarrassment, contrary to Bubsy's reputation. I bought both Demon Turf and Demon Tides at the same time and decided to play both, Turf then Tides. When I played Demon Turf, I was unimpressed, and was pretty harsh in my review of it, so this review of Demon Tides will be put in that context and there'll be a lot of comparisons between the two. There were so many core design decisions that were baffling to me while playing Demon Turf, and I ended up quitting Demon Turf after the 4th world, after gaining a time slow power and being so appalled with its use that my patience ran out. I actually had a ton of hesitation towards starting Demon Tides as a result, giving it about a month and a half of time before deciding to give Tides a chance. Long story short, Demon Tides is an amazing reversal for me. A ton of the quirks and problems that Demon Turf had are replaced with smooth traversal options that feel great and flow so well into each other. In Turf, your player character is a 2D sprite in a 3D environment, causing problems with readability on depth when trying to do precise platforming. Tides has full 3D models for its characters, which isn't really an amazing accomplishment, but compared to Turf the feeling is night and day for how well you can control. Your default means of movement are so well varied that the in-game moves list is justified and a very useful resource, but after a few hours of play I was able to get a grip on some of the more advanced techniques, and once you get all of them down, it's very easy and enjoyable to enter a flow state and breeze through stages. They also made a good decision to make snake form (a high speed running option) a default and mapped to its own button. There's no more clunky swapping between tools, and there are a ton of equippables that give you the means to find your own movement niche (I pretty much never took off high-speed dribble and fire sprint once I got them.) Most importantly, none of the equipment is required, with your base moveset being enough to complete the game from start to finish. Also, thank god they dropped the "psychic fist" attacks from Turf. It always felt like it never functioned properly, and swapping that out for a dash that interacts with all your other moves uniquely was such a better design decision. The level design is a pretty big improvement from Turf to Tides. First off, Tides drops the "select a level" format from Turf: you're out on the open seas in Tides with every level being its own island. While this does cut back on the amount of biome variety from Turf, levels in Tides are more condensed for high quality platforming. Tides also introduces rope shortcuts to get around the level, meaning you aren't strictly tied to placing down your own checkpoints (and also you only get 1 checkpoint to infinitely replace rather than a set number that can't be removed once placed.) This is much less frustrating than the first game that sometimes had levels be way too big for their own good. The music is also an improvement. I wouldn't say Turf's soundtrack was bad, but some of the more used themes (like the hub for example) got really grating with their use of a kind of Splatoon like "nah-nah-nah" vocal track. There are no such problems with Tides, and there was a good amount of songs that vibe super well with the theme of the game (I'm not a music guy so forgive me for not really being able to go more in-depth.) Go look up some early level themes if you want a good example. Also, while this isn't really that important, being able to customize your character does improve the fun. Turf only had color options and it didn't really feel adequate. Tides has a ton of different options available for hairstyles, hair colors, and costumes so you can probably find one or two combos that you like. Overall, Demon Tides is well worth the default asking price of $25 USD. Fans of 3D platformers (and Super Mario Sunshine in particular) will probably really like this game. I am glad that nearly every one of my complaints about the first game was addressed, and I'll probably play Bubsy 4D in the future.
Extremely fun platformer and has some fantastic movement to it. It's a lot more open ended then Demon Turf and I enjoy that here, very snappy going from island to island. Quite liked the writing too.
ost is tuff, platforming is tuff, stickers r tuff, vibes are tuff. its tuff
