Hands down, DELTARUNE is one of the most creative games in the bullet hell genre but is unfortunately held back by being limited to 30 FPS. This framerate makes otherwise satisfying bullet patterns feel extremely clunky to maneuver, and many bosses often rely on this jank to compensate for a lack of difficulty. To add insult to injury, the RPG elements of this game are extremely lacking; you're limited to three party members for most of the game, one of which stops learning new spells past Chapter 2 and eventually just becomes a glorified item caddy. There's very little battle synergy or spell variety between your party; most boss fights boil down to Guard > SP Attack > Guard/Item > End Turn. DELTARUNE ends up falling for most of the same pitfalls as UNDERTALE did, only minus the excuse of being a 2-8 hour game. The improvements DELTARUNE makes are shown in the form of new minigames or gimmicks to play with. Some of these new editions are really great, but the core gameplay the series advertises feels like an afterthought here. For the price of 25 USD, I'd recommend at least holding off until the game's full release, however I'd reccomend the game's demo with heaps of praise, Chapter 1 is still this game's narrative peak, and Chapter 2 is still the game's most content heavy chapter. Either way, if you do play this game, do it with BadArtAdventure's 60 FPS mod and the G3M mod launcher.
