Delay is a tightly focused indie action game that revolves almost entirely around speed, precision, and the clever manipulation of time. Developed by Matt Frank and published by baconlovarstudios, it positions itself as a skill-driven experience where quick reflexes and thoughtful execution matter far more than narrative context or visual spectacle. From the first moments, the game makes its intentions clear: this is a challenge-oriented title designed to test how well players can adapt to pressure, learn from failure, and gradually master a demanding mechanical system. The defining feature of Delay is its time manipulation mechanic, which allows the player to slow the world around them while remaining fully in control. This mechanic is not merely a novelty but the foundation upon which the entire game is built. Enemies, projectiles, and environmental hazards all respond dynamically to the flow of time, forcing players to think tactically about when to pause, when to move, and when to commit to risky maneuvers. Combat and platforming are deeply intertwined, with levels structured around precise jumps, split-second dodges, and calculated attacks that feel almost puzzle-like in execution. Success often comes from learning enemy patterns and discovering the most efficient way to thread through danger rather than relying on brute force. The level design emphasizes short, intense bursts of gameplay that encourage repetition and improvement. Each stage feels like a compact challenge arena, often demanding several attempts before a clean run is achieved. As the game progresses, new enemy types and mechanics are introduced that push players to refine their understanding of the time system. Difficulty ramps up steadily, sometimes aggressively, but this escalation is clearly intentional, catering to players who enjoy mastering systems through persistence. While this approach can be frustrating for those who prefer a gentler curve, it creates a strong sense of satisfaction when a previously overwhelming section is finally conquered. Content-wise, Delay offers a surprising amount of variety for a game of its scope. Multiple game modes and a wide selection of levels help prevent the core loop from growing stale, even though the fundamental mechanics remain consistent throughout. Different weapons subtly change how encounters are approached, encouraging experimentation and adaptation rather than a single optimal strategy. This variety adds replay value, particularly for players who enjoy chasing better completion times or cleaner executions, reinforcing the game’s arcade-like sensibility. Visually, the game opts for clarity and readability over elaborate aesthetics. The graphics are clean and functional, ensuring that enemies, hazards, and projectiles are always easy to track, even during chaotic moments. This restrained visual style works in the game’s favor, as it keeps the player’s focus on timing and movement rather than environmental detail. The audio design follows a similar philosophy, using sharp sound effects and minimalistic music to reinforce actions without overwhelming the senses. Every jump, shot, and hit provides immediate feedback, which is crucial in a game that demands precision. In the end, Delay is a game that thrives on its singular mechanical identity. It does not attempt to tell a deep story or build an expansive world, instead dedicating all of its energy to refining a specific type of high-intensity gameplay. Its appeal lies in repetition, mastery, and the satisfaction of improvement, making it particularly well suited for players who enjoy challenging action platformers with a strong mechanical hook. While it may feel narrow in scope or unforgiving to some, those who appreciate focused design and time-based mechanics will find Delay to be a rewarding and memorable indie experience that confidently delivers exactly what it promises. Rating: 5/10
Honestly, I was going to say it’s Superhot in 2D, because it basically is. Time only moves when you move, that’s it. The inspiration is more than obvious. But it still has its own merit. The levels are well designed, and it offers some pretty interesting challenge modes. So it’s cool to see a different take on the Superhot formula.
I just played this 2 hours straight and had some awesome laughs! This game is hilariously amazing! You restart every level for several times and try different, but the level also tries different on you as every guy has different weapons each time and takes a different path to you and each projectile has a random spread, so you always have to improvise. NO memorizing! It never failed to surprise me! Very good game design! I like it a lot! Absolutely worth your time and money! After those 55 levels you can replay them with a challenge twist like only grenades (this is SO ludicrously funny!). I played through all 55 levels three times in a row in 2 hours. I'm still laughing at it xD TRY IT! If you don't like it: refund it, If you like it: keep it ;-)
Reviewing every game I own #48 Feels like a flash game I would have played as a kid during computer class instead of doing work. But I got stuck on a hard level so I turned it off
